  • Tempted to grab the XL but I recently acquired a psvita… What is the screen like on the XL? (In terms of resolution etc.)

    • -1

      800×240 pixels

      • Technically it's 400x240 pixels per eye.

    • Not as good as vita but the 3d is good. You will soon find people buying 3DS for the exclusive games.

    • What is the screen like on the XL? (In terms of resolution etc.)

To be honest, all the screens on all of the 3ds devices are terrible.
On the XL version, you will be randomly given either an IPS display, or a TN panel. There's no way of knowing which one you will get before you open it.
Most people prefer the IPS display for better colours. The regular not-XL "new" 3ds is restricted to only TN panels which sucks.

The resolution is basically 240p. Now, if you watch a 240p youtube video, you think "ew so fuzzy", but in reality, because it is the native resolution on the 3DS, everything still manages to look crisp.

But what it comes down to is you have no choice if you want to play nintendo 3ds games. :) And they really do have some of the best games.

      • I mean I wanted to get the DS a while back ago but the resolution never got that better (should have been better by now). Might have to hold out if the resolution is that low :( Though if it ever gets any cheaper…

  • Any way to triple dip this deal with the $50 coupon from eBay and the $50 coupon from Target (both need to spend $250+)

Found my own answer - nope :(

  • some cheap games too!

pokemon oras, majoras mask and some others are $47 and xenoblade is $55 before discount :)

  • Anyone know where I could get a 3DS XL at a good price? Rather one of them over the 'new' 3ds as all it's going to be is a pokemon machine.

This deal is cheaper than buying an original 3DS XL anywhere else at the moment. The new ones don't come with a charger though, but it's still cheaper, even after you add in the extra $10-15 (not available at Target's eBay store :( )

      • Fair enough, cheers. Any reason why they don't include a charger?

Even with a 3DS XL at K-mart's clearance price ($99 from last year? Which I missed out on, fortunately), I'd rather use the money and pay the extra difference on the getting the new 3DS XL.

New model and specs (better processor), NFC for amiibo, etc.

I did read somewhere that there was some slowdown with Majora's Mask on the old model 3DS (can't remember if it was a 3DS or 3DS XL), so it might be better to get the new model (because of the better processor) in the event they release another Pokemon game that is exclusively for the just the new 3DS XL.

The new 3DS is capable of playing DS, 3DS and upcoming "new" 3DS games.

If this is your first 3DS console, it's a simple choice. Get the new 3DS or new 3DS XL.

      • Hard to argue with that. Cheers man.

  • how this new one differ from the original 3DS?

The 3D is significantly better; the 3D tracks your eyes now, so you can use it without a specially industrially manufactured head-to-hand 3DS brace. AKA, you don't have to hold it so perfectly specific, anymore.

Faster processor. Not by much, but by enough to make loading screens shorter by a few seconds.

The C-stick, for camera and aiming. New games are being made to take advantage of it, and I bet the new Metroid game would suck without. The buttons have also been moved around a little bit for comfort.

Game exclusivity. So far, the only one (that I know about) is Xenoblade Chronicles, but it's worth it for those who can't get the Wii version anymore.

NFC touchpad. The New 3DS has built-in Amiibo support

      • Thanks for the details..

          But wait, there's more!

The n3DS also has approximately 20% better battery life depending on what you are doing.

It has changeable faceplates, making overpriced 'limited edition' consoles a thing of the past. You can buy any faceplate (there are metal or even wooden faceplates) you want for a few bucks and easily install it onto your n3DS.

The material is matte and not glossy anymore so it's no longer a finger-print magnet.

  • This is a brilliant price. Owning a US DS is really killing me, the temptation is quickly rising.

  • What firmware verions?

  • Bought a 3DS XL even though I barely touched my old one lol hoping to play some games…

the console is worth the price to experience the zelda games alone if you have not already. i have almost finished majoras mask for the first time and it is fantastic

  • I was seriously about to bite and finally pick up a DS but it turns out they don't include a charger with the machine. I'm not buying a $200 Pokemon machine if they're not even going to give me a damn charger for it. I'll be fine without playing Pokemon.

      Valid point.

Mario, Zelda franchises and others might change your mind later down the track though. :D
