Haven't tried this yet, but the reviews on the Dan Murphy site worry me…

    • +3

      you are quite the warrior!

  • Never had, how do they compare to james squire?

  • +4

Supposedly owned by Coca Cola Amatil, Agree with JV, reviews don't sound promising. Loving the Hop Thief though.

    • Have to agree about the Hop Thief - nice drop. Bought 3 more 6 packs on the weekend when picking up 2 x Tap King kegs Tooheys Extra Dry which I got for $27.90. Turned out there was price error in the email which should have read $37.90 for 2 buts Dans honoured the mistake. It's also the first time that I have had a chance to use the free Tap King dispenser.

  • +1

tried their IPA recently and wasnt impressed, but for $10 im sure I'll give these two a try

  • Sad day for all no more James squire 10 dollar six packs i hope this is ok otherwise back to the cheaper beers

    • Very sad…. just tried to order some but o click n collect at my local

      • There'll be plenty of stock for click n collect after the 1st july, but it won't be $10 six packs.

  • +7

Don't forget the Samuel Adams Boston Lager for 10 bucks per 6 pack ….miles ahead of the other 2 IMHO.

    • where did you see this one for $10?

      • He was tipped off by a man inside.

        • excellent… that is indeed the deal of the month then

add it to this deal to save someone making another about it

      • Got the list from DM's on Monday.

    • +5

Do they also have Samuel Jackson?

      • +3

        That's Good Mother - %@!%# Beer!

  • Can confirm the Samuel Adams.

  • Is the Yenda pale ale Australian-style (Coopers green, 150 Lashes) or American/IPA style (Little Creatures, Feral Hop Hog)?

    • +1

      Australian.

  • +1

There goes my dry July :(

    • +9

  • +1

Just a heads up, ALL Yenda beers taste excellent.

    • +2

I'll have to disagree with your heads up with a thumbs down

  • Is this the Aussie brewery that was caught out making the beer in China?

    • +2

Yenda is the beer arm of Coca-Cola.

You have to worry about the beer the company makes when the company contact's name is advising you not to…

  • +1

Wish the members offers had four packs to make a carton.

    • +4

Just use click and collect 2 days in a row and collect them together…

      • Ah good thinking. I'll give that a go!

      • +1

I did two purchases in a row, same day and it worked

    • I have found they allow carton buys generally - although they will need to scan the 6 pack bar code from inside as the barcode on the outside of a carton is different (from experience so far). Doesn't hurt to try - just smile lots :)

      • I should try that too. I just have to remember to take tape to close up the box!

I just ride a pushbike with a topeak crate on the back that easily fits a full carton, so sixpacks are just un-carry-able. 1 six pack in a bad ok I guess, but 3 - useless.

    • +1

I did two purchases in a row, first bought 3 x 6 packs then 1 pack. Did click n collect and got my carton.

Not sure if it wasnt supposed to work, but it did last month for the Hop Thief.

      • Ah that's good to know someone has tried that and if worked. I'll definitely give it a go.

      • I placed 2 orders for 2x six packs, one after the other and it worked. The order was waiting in a carton…

I can't understand why they are unnecessarily making it more difficult for themselves, and their customers.

  • +1

not excited by the Yenda offer at all. Had the IPA a few weeks ago, my untappd notes were: "Not feeling this, a pretty tepid IPA. No malt presence, which is just as well cos there's only a tickle of hops". 2.5 Stars, Margaret.

Samuel Adams, on the other hand…

    • +1

Yeah. This might sound silly too, but I'm sick of craft beer makers spilling mid strength beers all the time. 4.2% ffs.

      • +2

Not silly at all. Making beers at that % is making beer for the taxman (which is why most macrobrews have decreased in strength over the years). Craft beer is made for (people who enjoy the) taste, which is not always for everybody. And the fact that Coca Cola are now making 'craft' style beers - well that's just taking a dump in the gene pool.

I love watching traditional beer drinkers in a bottle shop looking for a craft beer to try - 8 out of 10 sales are 150 Lashes, a weak and inoffensive 4.2% beer that would taste 'different' to a Pure Blonde drinker. James Squire/Lion Nathan are laughing all the way to the bank!

        • When I think about it, most of these DM member offers have been the giant brewers and manufacturers "craft" offerings. Honestly I'm not very fond of Pale Ales, which most of them have seemed to be too.

Yeah I'd prefer to support the little guys. Even if a bit more. I can get a carton from Clare Valley Brewing for $80 shipped. I've not tried their ales (which are a bit weak by ABV), but their King Kong Stout is great, and I've got a carton of their Gimp Stout on the way too. They have just released a wheat beer too, but that and the Gimp aren't available on their web site yet, you have to phone them.

I guess in favour of the giant making a nice strong stout - Southwark. but Dan Murphy's NEVER had it in store. At least they have it available to buy online. $53 plus shipping a carton, 7.4% ABV.

        • +1

Well said. I'd never heard of Yenda but just by looking at its labeling it instantly screamed to me that it's another of those macro brewers trying to cash in on the craft market. I put James Squire in that category but the Hop Thief actually had a bit of character and hasn't been dumbed down to match a price like they've done with the Golden Ale or Chancer or whatever they're calling it now.

I'll try the Samuel Adams this time but not the Yenda.

        • @Mobe1969: Southwark stout is a jewel in the macrobrew crown. Brews like Southwark Stout and Coopers Sparkling are proof that there's no need to mess with a beer. They are unapologetically not for everybody, so why change them to try to make them for everybody?

Anyway, granpa gets a bit passionate about his beer. Still plenty of good stuff out there! Will keep an eye out for Clare Valley suppliers here in Sydney :)

        • @carwashhair:

I can't believe you can't pick up Southwark in store anywhere. FFS it is ridiculous for such a beer, especially considering it is actually owned by Lion Nathan. I have to buy all my stouts and porters online as my local bottlos carry very little other than watery foreign mixes or some mainstream ones. I think my local BWS only has guinness, nothing else.

The older I get, the darker the beer I favour, for some reason…

        • +3

@Mobe1969: > The older I get, the darker the beer I favour, for some reason

Same here. It matches our souls….

        • +1

@carwashhair: …but not our hearts - well played, us. I'm also a fan of the darker brews.

        • +1

          @carwashhair:

Heh heh that actually made me laugh out loud…

Tell you what, I'd be overjoyed if I could just walk into my local bottlo and buy a carton of Southwark for DMs online price. This is why I'm so annoyed with these "free shipping offers" excluding beer. It isn't like I frigging have the option TO BUY IN STORE. And why I continually post the Aldi deals when they have free shipping offers, as they did include beer.

        • +1

blerk! Everyone should have to try a bottle of Little Creatures Pale Ale if they're thinking of 150 Lashes!
5.2% of full flavoured goodness. Still a huge corporate beast but done right, so far…

        • @drprox:
Both owned by the same huge corporate beast, Kirin Brewing.

I've been really disappointed with the Stowaway IPA in the past, so Hop Thief is by far their best IPA.

The Southwark Stout is a beauty, even though they're ALSO owned by Kirin Brewing. My vego friends tell me to avoid it because of isinglass but I like fish…

  • good deal.

  • +2

I tried a Yenda Pale a few months back and thought it wasn't too bad actually. Nothing remarkable, but better than a lot of the other big business "craft" brews like John Boston, Sail and Anchor etc. At the end of the day, I don't really care who makes the product if the price and taste is right. For $10 it's definitely worth a shot!

  • Bring back Hop thief

  • grabbed a few 6 packs of the Samuel Adams Boston Lager tonight

    Definitely a winner

  • Anyone check the expiry dates for The Sam Adams?

    • +1

My 6 pack is a BB date of September 2015

      • thanks! got some at a brisbane branch which shows the same expiry

  • I was just at my local DM, was ready to get a 6 of the Sam Adams, got to the counter and the staff there said that they think the whole lot that they have has been heat affected as they have had a few returns / complaints from customers.

Wasn't willing to take the chance so I left empty handed. They tried to sell me the Yenda but I said no thanks. And I can say with relative confidence that the heat didn't impact them here. Struggles to get to double figures here in winter (Ballarat, Vic).

    Something to be aware of.

    • +1

Maybe that is what is wrong with mine. I had 3 bottles last night, and really struggled. After reading some of the reviews, I must have a dodgy batch. They are dated Sept 15. I think Dan M have problems with their transport and/or storage. I have had a few wines from them that tastes better when purchased elsewhere, and I put it down to heat damage.

    • what does a heat affected beer taste like?

  • Just grabbed the Boston Lager and it's great. Very malty, a little bitter. I dig it

    • same here, got 12 bottles and this is good stuff….I am taking it side by side with Crown Golden Ale (crown is now difficult to drink after having my Sam)

  • just bought the Yenda Golden Ale and am very satisfied.

  • The Samuel Adams is really good. My choice of drink for most of my time in the US.
