Online stores have alerts when products start seeing unexpected activity. Probably nothing to do with Facebook posts.

  • Looks like they fixed it.

  • +8

I understand that these are heavily discounted (83% off I think)

But, think of how much money just hit JJ's bank account. Maybe they will consider honoring these depending on their profit margins (selling something at 83% off is sometimes still at a gross profit)

These vouchers aren't refundable. and they probably have some statistic that X% of vouchers end up expiring (free money) and might take that into account?

    Discuss :)

    • +5

I'd be interested in seeing the stats of unredeemed gift cards (although the chances of that are squat - i firmly believe this is a well hidden stat for good reason - they make a killing on it). I reckon thats where the money is with those red balloon sorts of places. Heaps of people would get bought 'experiences' that they weren't interested in and just never redeem them and because the booking is never made, they never pay the vendor.

      • +1

I had a red balloon voucher for a ride in a V8 car years ago and never used it….so yeah it happens.

        • I just had a red balloon beer brewing session almost expire, so i traded in for credit and got a half dozen wines.

      • +1

It's in the billions of dollars per annum.

      • +8

About time our state and territory governments outlawed expiration dates or set a minimum period before expiry. The situation in the US is:

Many states have enacted laws limiting or prohibiting all fees or expiration dates for gift cards. Further, because of the negative impact on sales that such policies can have, most merchants have adopted and even advertise a "no fee, no expiration" policy for their gift cards, whether or not state laws require it. In 2011, an estimated 2.5% of gift cards imposed an expiration date and 2.7% imposed post sale fees.

        • i agree

      • It's around 30% are never redeemed.

    • If you think about it though - it didn't "just hit" their bank account. The payments were processed through a payment gateway and, due to the fact that everyone is getting refunded, it is highly unlikely that the cleared funds will ever hit their bank account

  • Someone ruined the fun on Facebook :(

  • +2

Well put it this way, today I didn't expect to buy anything from Just Jeans. I can't even remember the last time I went to a Just Jeans store.

    • Yeah I didn't know they still existed until I saw this deal.

Would rather keep my money than let them hold it for awhile, earn interest on it and then refund it eventually.

  • lol i paid for it too :P…feeling a bit guilty !

  • -2

    I think they will honour
They spend a lot of money for promotion of J J
If they honour they will be the winner

  • +4

The one time I don't procrastinate and this is what happens!! If they honour it I am going to be so pissed off at myself for actually doing work…

  • +21

Abbott is addressing the media now. Apparently he thinks 'heads should roll' if they don't honour this deal. Pressure is on jj.

    • +5

Maybe Bronwyn can use her entitlements to buy us all vouchers if JJ fails to deliver! :P

    • +14

Bob Hawke weighed in on the debate today and said "Any company who doens't honour a pricing error is a bum"

      • +1

And Pauline Hanson just weighed in with "I don't like it"

    • +3

Abbott has readdressed the media stating he will "stop the deals". hhmmm, where does he stand?

      • +6

Are we talking about the same Abbott? The Abbott I know just stood there nodding.

  • +3

Don't know if it will be honored, but considering the cost of clothes is so cheap, they're probably still making money if you buy $200 worth of clothes with $34… So I'm guessing they might actually honor this deal.

    • +11

The clothes may be cheap to make, the cost of selling them in Australia isn't.

  • +3

Just Jean now has all your details. Prepare for spam mails.

  • Has anyone else received a confirmation email from Auspost? I just received an email from them saying they have received a parcel for shipping but annoyingly, they don't say who it is from. I don't recall purchasing anything else on-line recently so I am hoping it is the one card I ordered …

    • Nah i havnt, dont think theyd be sending out stuff at this time either?
But who knows, hopefully they are :)

    • +3

Clearly that email is not related to this deal.

    • +5

THAT IS PROBABLY DAMAGING MALWARE. DO NOT OPEN!
Whoever downvoted your post is a fu***** retard.

This is what my university sent me:
"Some student and staff email accounts have reported receiving an email which appeared to be legitimately sent by Australia Post, but instead contained highly damaging Cryptolocker malware. ICT has blocked this malicious email, and control measures are in place to prevent further impact. If you open a suspicious email or believe your computer may be compromised, please contact the ICT Helpdesk on —— —— immediately.

      • Thanks for the warning, dude! I checked and it turns out that the email is legit, and relates to this order I made with Kathmandu for this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/203033. It is weird because I asked to pick up the item in store but the article numbers match so maybe they are sending it to me for free? If so, score!

        • +3

Kathmandu post it to the store. Stupid I know…

And before anybody says they probably combine a bunch of orders, they don't.

      • You are completly right about this issue, this just happen to someone I know a few days ago.

    ** News flash **
Pauline Hanson is against the Just Jeans offer. Men wearing tight jeans and women wearing jeans with exposed muffin tops is just not right.

Has anyone got a tracking number yet? looks like it worked?

    • +2

doubtful on a sunday, aust post only works monday to sat

  • Imagine how much interest JJ'S are making on your money till they refund!!

    • +1

one buck fifty if they hold it for a year…

    • Let's say all 8775 clicks actually purchased.. about $27/day.. "woohoo".

      • -2

        8775 x 200 x 1.5 (few people bought more than 1 card so allow a bit more) = $2,732,500 came in @ 4% = $288 per day

        • +1

Your math is a bit off Logical.
          - 8775 would of surely accounted for the people who bought more than one.
          - It's times $34, not $200. $200 is the value of the card, $34 is what people paid.

        • 8775 x 30 (people didn't pay $200) x 1.5 = $295,010 at 4% = $43.29 a day

        • @adam: my calculations pre-empt the phone calls people will get this morning that will ask people to cough up the rest or the order gets cancelled ;-)

  • Poor Just Jeans.

If they Honour it. All these gift cards are going to be on Ebay and the people selling them scored themselves a 400% profit. lol

    • +6

Nobody is going to buy it on eBay at full price when you have thousands on there.

      • -4

If mine comes ill be selling it for $190. Interested?
