You don't have to buy aussie dollar. Some people transfer money overseas on a regular basis, this deal is suited for this type of situtaion

Why not? If you plan on moving money into AUD long term, it's a good time to buy, unless you're saying that because you think the $ is going to weaken further

$35 'profit' (though we know that itunes cards aren't worth face value), after transferring over $1k. Hardly seems like a 'deal'

Nope, not 5%. As you've already said, if you can manage to sell the itunes card for $35 (which I think you'd be pretty lucky to do, probably more like $25) then you'd have a $20 profit after the fee (Scotty's deal was that there was no fee). That's a 2% bonus. Sell the card for $25 and that's a 1% bonus.
'Market value' on a $50 Itunes card isn't $50

Gift cards usually sell for face value on ebay because most people have paypal money they want to use.

It's not putting. If you in the need to transfer cash to someone or parents at overseas this is just like a bonus.
I don't think the op was remotely suggesting doing it for the free card… Just as a good deal for those who need the service anyway!
The random referral links doesnt seem to be working (maybe coz its still using refer.ozforex.com as domain name). Anyone having the same problem?
I am getting an empty page when I click on "Refer a Friend" on the OFX's site. Maybe they are no longer running the referral? OFX doesn't run the referral program themselves but an external marketing program (Extole).
I would not be buying in aussie dollars atm..
