Hi Ozbargainers!

This is my first post on Ozbargain and I hope I can impress our bargain hunting community!

My name is Sofia, I’m an avid traveller – you will often find me interstate or overseas. One of the key issues I have faced with travel is the hefty international roaming charges and the availability of a destination sim card.

This is the key reason I have founded www.simcardsfortravel.com

About SimCardsForTravel.

⦁ advertised locally by another Australian legal business with an ABN (Australian Business Number)

Thanks justcallmeboss, just new at this. Post has been Edited

      • No worries. I just wanna confirm, if I buy now, can you activate it in November when I am going to the U.S.?? Thanks great deal btw

        • "Please Note: Due to the changing nature of Plans and pricing, We can only activate your sim before 31 December 2015, However we will honour any activation upto 30 March 2016 and auto bump up if any changes to plans."

I assume this means that'd be fine, if I'm reading it right.

  • Price in title please

    Edit: Ninja'd by 4 seconds!

    • DialIN, nothing wrong with second best, when it comes to helping out.

  • Is this 60% off the normal price of $50?

if so how do I apply your code?

    • Hi rob74, this is 60% of RRP which is $60USD in the states as can be seen here http://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone-plans/individual.html.
On our website we have it for $50,but with the discount code you get it for $25, which you put in the checkout page.

      • Thanks I got it worked out an placed order.

      • Are you sure you are linking to the right plans?

Your link is to a monthly plan, prepaid plans are here:
        http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/prepaid-plans

        • Hi AnophthalmiaCervidae, The Sim Pack that we are providing is the Simple Choice Monthly prepaid plans. These are still prepaid and 30 day based, but they allow hotspotting and do not cap 4g speed like the Simple prepaid plans. So this pack is far superior to the other Prepaid Plan, featurewise.

you have to pay for the shipping, $3 normal, express $7

    • Hi nick286, Yes shipping is $3 Standard and $7 Express.I will add that to the post to avoid confusion. Thanks

    • you have to pay for the shipping, $3 normal, express $7

OP - this should be added to the title.

Also, should be advised on your site.

I'm a moron and ordered the wrong size :(

    • +3

rob74, Can you private msg me your order number and what size you actually need and I will change that for you

      • Sorry for being a pain and thanks for being able to fix it.

        I've sent you an email.

  • Any chance of a deal for September / October for UK with roaming though Europe?

Particularly interested in something similar to 3's Pay As You Go - All in One £15 with Feel at Home.

    • Hi Matthew42, nothing planned at this stage. However the Uk Sim that we currently have, can not roam throughout Europe. But we may be able to do a special on the one we current have in the coming weeks if we find a high demand for it. Thanks

      • anything we can use in Europe? dont really care about UK, we will only stay there for no more than 4 days.

      • I'm also after one for Europe. I leave in 3 weeks incase you'd like to have a good deal on :-)

  • Do these have an expiry?

    • Hi mahgo, do you mean expiry to the sim or expiry to the sale? The sims features last 30 days and as long as you keep topping up they will not expire

      • +1

I mean the sim. Do they have some kind of date they need to be activated before?

      • OP, when you say "top up" - can one add extra 4G data to the 3GB plan? If so, how much data at a time, and at what cost?

I looked at the T-Mobile site, but could not find this information.

        Thanks.

      • Same as @mahgo, I would be interested to know if this sim card has any specific activation date?

E.g. I don't know exactly the date of my future trip to US (still being planned), as such I'd like to be sure that sim card can still work for me with later activation date…

        • I have edited the post to take into account ozbargainers travelling later. So even if you are travelling before 31 March 2016, you can still purchase one and we can still get them activated and ready to go by the time you land

A3Australia, You can not add on extra Data until your next month. Then you can change the option of your prepaid plan to get more data.

        • @simcardsfortravel:

          Thanks for your response Sofia!
What is the easiest way to contact you with the activation dates - via PM here or email on your website ?

        • @nemoau: On the actual page ,theres a text box under "sim card size", If you write your departure dates in there, I will be able to see it directly.

        • @simcardsfortravel:
          Hi Sofia,

I did put comments "approximately end of August" as I don't have exact dates yet. That's why I wonder how I can contact you when I'll get the dates sorted out.

        • @nemoau:That should be no problem. Can you email us at [email protected] when you find out your exact date, and will adjust it for you.

        • @simcardsfortravel:

Thanks again! Will email later with my order number and exact dates for activation, cheers!

  • OP, not enough 4G Data. Can you do a deal for the T-Mobile 5GB 4G SIM?

    • Hi A3Australia,unfortunately we only have the 3GB option at the moment, sorry

    • so i went to USA and got a local prepaid sim, only 100 minutes and unlimited data 1G at 4G and the rest at 2G i think and it was all ok

I managed so even getting unlimited is good value and the amount of data provided.
are you going to be always on youtube or something? lol

i used it mainly for browsing the internet if i have to or google maps else the accom you stay will have wifi

      • is it easy to find free wi-fi hot spots in NYC?

        • i can't remember for NYC but imo you shouldn't be spending travelling on your mobile, you should be seeing what the city has to offer :)

but if you really have to use wi-fi, theres always McDonalds and when I was in NYC, I didn't really use my mobile much unless I needed directions or something quick on the net so yeah

        • @prankster: thanks a lot. i am placing an order. cant live without internet, but never bother doing things like watching youtube on-the-go.need internet for navigation and emails and messages.

        • @alwayseric:

looks good mate, how long u going for? and just NYC?

        • I was there a few weeks ago and there were heaps of hotspots. A lot of the big stores have them, as do restaurants and cafes. Quite a few subway stations have it too. You should be able to tell which ones based on small groups of people standing at the top of the stairs leeching the wifi :)

        • @prankster: only one week there. may drive to washinton, or book a tour. also consider going North to Boston.

        • @mthomas87: D
now i wont become one of these people, but may need to leech the WiFi when i am in London and Paris.

hope i can spot a good deal for a sim card for Europe before i leave.

  • Where are you based? I'm leaving next Wed and wondering if regular post will make it - I'm in Melbourne

    • hi ozbara, we are located near Melbourne CBD, so we should definetely be able to get you a sim in time.

  • When will this deal end?

I am planning to visit U.S. in October. Will I be able to enjoy this deal?

    Thanks

    • Hi jerouy, this deal is limited to only 200 Customers at the moment, so even if you are planning to go in October, you can get one organised now for your trip and we can have it setup for you so you dont miss out.

      • Ordered.

I have mentioned my arriving date in the "USA Travel Dates" section. I assume my SIM card will be activated on that particular date, right? Do I need to manually activate it somewhere(such as T-mobile website)?

        Thanks,

        • Yes that's correct. The Sim will be activated on the date you provide. That is all you need to do, no manual activation is required from your end

  • Could you also please confirm if unlimited local calls in the US includes cell phone numbers?

Yes this includes both Landline and Mobiles in the states

        • a silly question, will the sim card be compatible with my mobiles? say Nexus 5? (i guess the answer is yes, i guess T-Mobile is just a brand/service carrier name like Optus here. )

  • Im planning on December can you accommodate this?

    • id like to know this as well, also travelling December.

      • Yes we can, Just insert the date you are leaving in, even if its in december and we will activate your sim closer to the date you note

  • +1

Hi Sophia, i'm trying to order 2 sim cards, however it applies the discount for only 1.

    • Hi jitesh, To make it easier, I will make the regular price the same as the sale price as we are having problems with the discount system

      • Thanks that will be great.

  • Hi Rep,

Do you have any deals for dtac/Thailand cards? Looking to purchase 3-5 for October.

    • hi Lukian, At the moment we only have Vietnam Sims. So we cant help you this time unfortunately

  • Will this work in Canada (Niagara/Toronto)? The coverage map shows light grey "Partner". I'm not sure what this means.

    • and Vancouver?

    • I've bought one anyway because the majority of our travel will be in America but it would be good to know if this will still work (even just for calls/sms) for the few days we plan to spent in Canada.

      • +1

The grey area means that it will be roaming on a Canadian network. We are unsure how good the coverage is, but it wont be as good as while you're in the states. I have read/heard different information about how well it works in Canada and also Mexico.

  • I'm leaving for USA on Saturday, is there a possibility of pick-up, I'm in Sydney?

    • hi munno, unfortunately we do not have a pickup facility in sydney

      • In that case do you think I can get it delivered to me in Sydney by COB Friday?

        • If you put an express order through today, it may take 1-3 days depending on where you live. So we can try but there is a probability due to the inconsistency of Aus Post shipping that it may not reach in time.

        • @simcardsfortravel:

Hey can you please check my order

I put it either 10 or 11 December 2015, can you please confirm which one?
          Order 21009

        • @nick286: you have put 10 december.
However fraud detection is marking your purchase as fraudulent, I will send you a private msg.

  • +2

How does it work with the activation date? Do you set up a future dated activation in the T-Mobile system or do you manually do it closer to the date?

    • +2

hi delfredo, the Date you provide is inputted in an automatic database, which will then activate your service on that date. We can adjust this forward or back. But we manually check with the orders to ensure no order is missed

      • Thanks. I'm in!

      • Hi simcardsfortravel, thanks I just bought one of these. Just for my learning, is the database maintained by T-mobile? Lastly, is there any emergency option if we've arrived and the service still isn't active? Thanks!

        • roberto7, No this database is maintained by me and my team, this ensures no personal information is shared or given to any third party. In any case we would still recommend emailing us first if its to do with any activation issue, as we have direct contact with T-mobile. You do have the choice to go to a T-mobile store directly for any other issues, but if its urgent we wouldn't want you wasting time so you can grab any other sim card, and we will gladly give you a refund on the simcard you purchased with us.

  • I can't seem to buy one - tells me the discount has been disabled when I go to pay at checkout

    • +2

I just have completed the purchase on their website, no need to put in any discount codes, the price is already 25$.

  • Yes I know but when I go to pay it tells me the discount code has been disabled. Will try again

    • Hi ozbarabara, yes the discount has been disabled as we have changed the original price to $25, so you will have to clear the discount and try again, private msg me if you are still having problems :)

  • +1

    Ordered :)

    Thank you!

    • That's great mayo88 :)

  • OP whenever you have deals to EU or Spain can you PM me. Thanks for the deal. Also, just in case the sim does not work, how (and where) do we contact you?

    • Hi rgovind, we will keep you in mind. But if this sale is anything to go by, we will definitely post a sale on Ozbargain.

We are setting up an email [email protected] which should be operational to help for any problems.

  • Is this $25 AUD or USD?

    • Hi jkirish5, all prices are in Australian Dollar(AUD)

  • Finally ordered! Thanks. Safari causing problems.

  • +1

Thanks for the continued followup rep - go well with the cheap qantas flights ;) Any chance of adding a nano to micro sim adapater on your website so I can use across two mobiles (S5 and Iphone 6)?

    BTW I'm Order #21059

  • +1

Hi OP, could you please confirm that this is the T-Mobile 'Simple Choice North American Plan' 3GB, which allows for calls and data in US and Canada?

    • it would appear
      OP provided the link
      http://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone-plans/individual.html

    • I'd like to know this too. The T Mobile site says:

Music Freedom™ with unlimited music streaming on our network from top services such as Pandora and iHeart Radio without using your data.

      and then

*** Includes unlimited music streaming on services like Pandora, iHeartRadio and more that doesn’t count against your 4G LTE data.

There's a list of the music streaming services here

I wonder whether this applies to these travel sims or whether it is a modified plan to include:

      • Unlimited International Calls to Australian Landlines; and
      • Unlimited International SMS to Australian Mobiles.

      There's also this:

Unlimited data and texting when you travel to any of 120+ countries and destinations so you can stay connected when you’re abroad.

I can't find a list of the 120+ countries but it seems unlikely to me that this would be included.

      • +2

hi ocallaghan, We are confirming whether both of these services are included in our packs since these features are relatively new. Music service only started 18th june and North America feature just commenced last week. I do not want to confirm until I am 100% sure they are included and working properly, but we will keep our customers updated

        • Thanks. It's a great offer either way.

        • @ocallaghans: We have been advised that the sims will only work in the USA and won't work in Canada or Mexico.

    • Not the rep, but 'Simple Choice North American Plans' are only available to US residents. Looking at t-mobile site, I believe this is the 'Simply Prepaid' 3GB plan with the $10 'Stateside International Talk' option = $US60 for AU$25 - great deal. Also if going for >30days, buy multiples of these simcards while they're on offer as recharging is more expensive.

      • This sounds right to me. but the op has stated above that it is not a Simply Prepaid plan.

      • for my needs, i only care IF its the simply prepaid, can i still use it in Vancouver?

        • unfortunately, you will note be able to use it in Vancouver. The sim will only work in the USA.
