    • ewww telstra

Please look at this thread regarding negative voting.

        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/18465

You say ewww Telstra locked- that's a personal opinion about Telstra and thats what Jong already pointed out. It doesnt help anyone here - even me who personally agrees with you about the big T.

Voting negative without giving some details why starts to negate the power of the negative comment which is to highlight issues with a post vs personal dislikes eg I think red bull is dangerous to health so I negate your red bull deal.

Thats why we implemented the need to make a comment before making a negative vote. Look at Jong's post which is almost the same, a valid point, we understand what they are saying and no need for the negative vote - just abstain.

So please - either remove the negative and leave the comment, or give some rational reason why this specific deal is not worthy for people to take up, then you match the spirit of what negative voting is about - thanks

"ewww Telstra locked" is NOT personal opinion… it is PUBLIC opinion… ;)

          • +1

@jv: So you validate the overall point I make - there is no need to make a negative vote about this post, the negative vote is for the post not for the company. As for Public vs personal I dont want to play the semantics game here, that's off topic, and we'll end up with a thread longer than any at Whirlpool.

            • @[Deactivated]: All bets are off when it comes to poking fun of Telstra ;)

  • easy fix, jailbreak it!

    • Jailbreaking won't unlock the phone to be used on other networks.

      • rofl ultrasn0w

  • The price of the Iphone is $799.95 plus $6.95 postage. Total $806.90

4% cashback from MoneybackCo on $799.95 is $31.99.

The Iphone with postage and MoneybackCo discount applied: $774.91

Seems like a pretty good deal.

    • Isn't cashback applied to the non-GST component of the sale? ie. $ 719.96

  • how do you know its telstra locked?
can you get it officially unlocked via telstra?

    • in the product description in the middle.

of course you can, but telstra charge an arm and a leg for unlocking.

    • +1

It's $150 to get the phone unlocked by Telstra. Rip off.

      • free if you jail break it though. You don't have to pay a thing, and you get more than a unlocked phone. 2 in 1 deal!

        • Wouldn't that void the 12 months warranty?

        • Jailbreaking doesn't unlock the carrier lock.

I mean…you can unlock the carrier lock, it's just not part of the jailbreak, and from what I've heard, very hard to do!

          • @[Deactivated]: No its not look further down

          • @[Deactivated]: Jailbreaking and unlocking takes around 2 minutes of your time and it is at the mercy of one click of a button. ;) My was locked to the big T now its on Voda =]

            • @Henryzz: OK I'll take your word for it, as these things literally change every week.

Used to be very hard :/

Jailbreaking is of course very easy now…didn't know about unlocking tho.

  • How does one apply the MoneyBackCo discount?

    • Join up with moneybackco. www.moneybackco.com.au

Make sure you get rid of any caches and cookies from the site you want to visit, so its seen that you have been first introduced by moneybackco (or use another clean browser as I do, where I clear out all the caches and cookies), so they get teh credit for the intro, which they pass back to you.

      • So I bought the phone, how would they know it's me?

        • You have to visit OO.com.au using the link that MoneyBackCo provides so they can do the tracking for you. Otherwise it won't work.

just remember - friends don't let friends sign contracts with telstra
    jen

  • Jailbreak, Turbo Sim, many options available to unlock from Telstra. Or am I wrong?

    • jailbreak does not unlock it

  • If its prepaid it should only cost $49.50 to unlock it, thats how much they were going to charge me when i wanted my phone unlocked

    • Not with he iPhone. The iPhone is $150, whether you're in contract or not, prepaid or postpaid, dick or Jane. It is a unconditional $150 to unlock it.

  • blacksn0w will fix up the Telstra locked issue.

  • Unless it has the latest firmware, then you can not unlock it…. last time I checked =)

    • Nope, can use blacksn0w.

      • Cheers mate… I might give it ago tonight…..

        • search instructions on youtube before trying

  • Can it be unlocked by software?!

    • Blacksn0w is software

      • Does it work on 3GS?
        Sorry, I am Symbian fan…..

        • yes its specifically for that

  • No wonder Telstra is selling these off thru oo.com, they never advertise the iphone, if you go into a Telstra shop they try to push you to the LG.

    • Yeah nokia came home and found telstra sleeping in bed with LG. It's been that way for a while now ;)

Telstra only sells the iPhone because they don't want to lose customers who MUST have one.

If you think about it, Telstra and Apple are similar in some ways, and neither wants to share a piece of the pie with the other xD

      • Telstra are idiots. At the ridiculous prices they charge for iPhone data, and the way iPhone users seem to endlessly consume data, you'd think they'd want one of these in every telstra customers hands.

  • SOLD OUT!

I'm mad. I had it in my cart.

  • Pretty sure I got one of the last few.

  • Is blacksn0w reversible? ie. can you unlock, then later re-flash to OEM Telstra-lock software?

    • Someone else feel free to correct me but yes, you just restore the iPhone with iTunes and original firmware and everything is how it was - locked to Telstra. Jail-breaking is a reversible process.

      • I did a bit more reading and it appears that put simply, blacksn0w runs independent of the firmware as a 'daemon'. So it appears that simply uninstalling it should revert the phone back to normal.
