  • Is there a direct link? I can't see it on their website

  • it's on their catalogue which doesn't start till 21/12/09

  • Wow what a deal. Any chance of better deals on boxing day?

    • Give it a go at Myer but better get the card quick!

    • Nope. There's a 50" Sanyo Plasma for ~1200, but it's only 1366x768 (wouldn't be bad for a second TV I suppose). The rest of the catalogue is pretty crap — 108 for PS2s, some 2 for 20 PS2 games, some 2$ DVDs, $5 DVDs, but nothing really great in there.

  • Is the PS3 by redemption? Cos that can take forever to come

  • Nope, they give you a PS3 then and there at time of purchase! You walk home with the lot.

  • where is this promotion? cant find it :(

    • it’s on their catalogue which doesn’t start till 21/12/09

      • Yeah…I can confirm this as I got the catalogue in my hand right now.

  • Actually it can be cheaper if Myer is willing to price match this bundle with their current “10% Bonus Gift Cards” promotion!

    • The bundled stock is actually one promotional box. I'm not sure whether or not other chains will match it.

  • whats the TV worth on its own?

    • RRP is $1099.
Can be bought from JB or Good Guys for $998 with no bargaining ;)

This deal makes the TV price around $750.

      • +1

TV by itself is around $850 for either W5500 (much better) or this V series.

But no doubt this is a good deal.

  • Wow! this is the deal I've been waiting for!
Is this a SONY promotion or just BigW?….Will GG, HN, Myer etc have this deal?
Gotta set my alarm Monday morning ;)

  • $1137.15 for Woolies staff card holders. :)

    • can i borrow your card? ;o)

    • +1

      it's 10% off this weekend ,http://everydaypromos.com.au/e200912060/StaffSale-low.pdf
      should be 1077

      • They won't be available (even to staff) until Monday.

      • Wonder if I can print this off and get Officeworks to beat the price for the iPod touch…

  • Mmm I'm tempted to pick one up myself, been meaning to replace my bedroom tv for a while now.

  • -1

Apparently this TV is not FullHD but 136x768? In that case I would think you can get a better deal by looking around.

    • You wrong…it's advertised as 1920 x 1080

    • Definately a Full HD TV. It's one of the earlier models before the W series, but for the price this is a really good deal with the PS3 in there.

  • wonder if you can pay a little more and get a bigger screen?

    • Highly unlikely

    • I doubt that, they'd be trying to clear out these as they are a pretty old model now. Still a good TV, just old.

      • Believe they said its a bundle, so no redemption.

      • It's not part of that promo, this is a bundle from Big W.

The V series wasn't even included in that promo.

  • Seems like a Big-W only promotion, will give Myer a call Monday morning to see if they'll match it.

    • having worked myer for a few years, we didnt "price match" bundles.

  • Extremely good deal.

  • Does anyone know what the model number of the television is?

    • +2
      • side ethernet port? wtf? lol that will look classy.

        • What is that ethernet port for????????

          • @Jacku: On the samsung (depending on the series i suppose) you can get weather, news and stock info through the tv, but also use it to stream movies and music and view photos from a computer with the samsung sharing software installed on it.

I don't know what Sony offers via the ethernet port but would like to hear from anyone who has a Sony with it.

            • @AntMan76: wow this is so cool… anyone else can confirm it????

    • looks like TheWiz beat me to it by a minute =)

anyone know how i can delete a post?

I work at Big W in the Home Entertainment department and I can confirm that it comes as one big bundle, no redemption necessary. The impression I got from my manager is that this is a one-off deal, so once it's sold out it's gone. However it shouldn't sell out too quickly, I work at a regional store and we have about 12-20 units in stock (which is a lot considering the rate we sell TVs). I also asked if we could buy it tomorrow (because of the 10% off for discount card holders) and she said we had to wait until Monday :( Oh yeah, and it comes in a VERY snazzy box :P

    • I'd say they'll all be gone within the first day. Stores open at 7am, so I'd be in quick if I were after one…

      • They open at 8am in Brisbane. Unless they are opening at a special time for the sale?

        • Ah, strange. We've been opening at 7am Mon-Fri for a week now (in Vic), and will continue to do so before Christmas. Recommend you give your stores a buzz tomorrow and find out what time they open. Other TVs that have been popular in the past (honestly can't remember the exact TV for the life of me) have been sold out Australia-wide within an hour. Wouldn't surprise me if this one's gone within half an hour.

          • @pais: Just checked it on the Big W website. Yep it shows VIC stores open at 7am. So your usual opening times are 7am but QLD is 8am.

            • @AntMan76: Well, there ya go! I'd be there before 8am if you're after one..

    • Keep the behind the scenes info coming redvaldez, great job!

      • While it's valid information, it's slightly misleading. The rate that TVs are sold out always varies depending on the value of the TV, time of the year, and whether it's advertised or not. To give some perspective, I expect the 18 we have in stock to be gone within the first hour. If you want one, get in early.

To give some further perspective, there's a cheap 42" plasma for 746 in the boxing day catalogue, which smaller stores have ~100 of and larger stores have ~200 of (in contrast to the ~20 or so that all stores have of this particular model). 20 units, for this kind of promotion, is absolutely sweet F.A.

  • Myer don't do price match if below cost.

  • May not matter to some but this model is not 100MHz one. There may be some motion blur and ghosting on fast moving action movies and sports.

    • you mean 100hz.

and motion blur/ghosting is to do with response time, not refresh frequency. V and W tvs are both 8ms response time i think.

  • What country is this tv made in?

    • Probably China like everything else. That's where most TV's are made nowadays besides some of the high end models from some companies which are still made in Japan.

    • I know the Z and W are made in Malaysia. I'd guess this would be too.

    • this one from Malaysia

  • Very tempting deal.

  • So is this TV 50hz or 100hz. What is hz and what does it do. I better head to JB tomorrow and buy some games in advance for this deal

    • +1

      50Hz.

100/200Hz TV's handle fast motion a bit better, but it is only useful for some sports and documentaries, it looks rubbish on normal TV and movies.

For the price of this bundle, not having 100/200Hz is not a big deal.

  • TV is 50hz but it won't matter - the difference is highly unnoticeable unless you're looking for the ghosting. My old tv is 50hz and i've barely noticed any ghosting apart from a few high intensity sporting moments.

  • So will this tv be okay to watch Blu ray movies and play games?
So which do you think is better for gaming 50hz or 100hz
Sorry if the questions sound abit stupid, I just simply dont know anything when it comes to tvs

    • It will be fine for the price. If you really want a better TV you are going to have to pay a fair bit more and you wont get a PS3 with it.

24P playback on more expensive TV's is an advantage for Bluray playback but again you are going to be paying more.

      • This has 1080/24p

        • Oh yeah it does. Bonus.

  • Does anyone know if Big W will put these on hold if I call in on Monday morning?
I can"t make it to a store until sometime Tuesday…

    • Doubt it, pretty sure they are not allowed to put sale items on hold.

  • Of course, TV will be perfectly fine to watch Blu Ray and play games providing you have a HDMI cable.

As for gaming, it's debatable but from what I know the 50hz is better as 100hz can cause lag when playing games. Theoretically 100hz is better for Blu Ray but 50hz is better for games. There's no doubting the 50hz will do the job for most people - i'll def be buying this deal.

    • +1

100Hz does tends to be bad for gaming due to lag, but many people, like myself think 100Hz makes movies look 'unnatural'.

  • Thanks for the answers. I am also waiting for Monday to come and go grab this deal.
I hope its all in one package/bundle so wont have to carry more than one box :D

    • It's all in one reasonably-sized box.

    • -2

I doubt it will be 1 box to carry out, cause this is a Big W combo, not a Sony combo.

      • +3

Having seen the boxes first hand, they are indeed "one reasonably-sized box" as I note above.

        • Oh, oops. I thought your post said "Is it all in one reasonably-sized box."
          My bad.

  • -2

Hey I only want the TV guys, anyone willing to get the ps3 + blue rays for $400? PM me if interested, I'm in Sydney and I'll be purchasing this deal on Monday morning. email me at [email protected]

  • 32" 50hz meh

  • I just came back from BigW Macquiries Park. You mentioned for this promotion and you can get it from today onward.

  • +1

After going to Myer to check out this TV I found out they don't price match it. Had a look at the Sony, very decent TV and a great size but after looking at a few Samsung LCDs, decided against the Sony. Picture quality is remarkably better on the Samsung and you get a free 22" with it via redemption.

This is a good package for any gamer but otherwise for a few hundred more I prefer a 40" Samsung with free 22" - plus i'm sure you can negotiate a good price for a PS3 too.

    • What was the price of the Samsung? Can you provide a model number or any other details?

      • +1

        http://samsung.promotionscampaign.com.au/xmasbonustv/about.h…

I bought the 46" LA46B650 for just over 2k - the 40" i was quoted a price of $1750 but decided to put a little more cash and get a few inches more. As for the PS3, they won't discount it but I bought one with the Myer Gift Voucher offer. Much more happier than with the Sony, I saw that model and wasn't very impressed at all. Honestly anyone that is thinking of buying this bundle needs to check the picture quality first, for a small LCD is decent but for a little more cash i'd prefer a better TV.

  • Hey is this promotion valid in Adelaide? Checked their online catalogues, cannot seem to find this deal.
    Thanks

    • It is in their catalogue, but not online… the catalogue is from 21-24 december as mentioned

      • oh ok, thanks

    • That advertisement for the television says "1024x768 Resolution". Does that sound right to anyone?

      • This comment is regarding the Samsung television that Levi just queried above.

        • Yes it is right for that model. It is not Full HD, so not many people would be attracted to that.

      • Most of the cheap plasmas are 1024x768 - they have rectangular pixels.

      • It's a bigger TV.
      • 600HZ sub-field drive.
      • It's not Full HD.
      • Apparently some Samsung plasmas have a buzzing issue.

Personally I'd say the Sony deal is better given that it is a Full HD TV and is $300 cheaper.

  • Thanks for the quick replies… has anyone coupled a ps3 bundle at ~$500 with a tv ~$700 to come up with a better deal?

  • I'm sure you could get a black and white 15" TV for less than $700 Levi ;)

My local Big W had them out this arvo. Gotta love a sale that starts a day early.

    It's a BIG long box!

  • Don't like it when they sell deals early.
Since it came out today, I would think that smart Big W staff would snap up most of them with their 10% discount.

  • Is it really that tight on stock?

    • Yes, as I said above. All stores received about ~20 units.

  • Just picked up mine this morning. One other guy there getting one as well. Staff even commented to me how great a deal it was. Very happy with my purchase! BTW bring a big car to take it home with, the box is much longer than a the standard 32" Sony packaging.

  • The box contains all the standard packaging for the TV and PS3 (important for those looking to resell the PS3). I think the Blu-ray discs are missing for me though, so check the contents carefully.

    • +1

I thought that too, but the discs are in the PS3 box.

  • Well I got mine. Seven out of 19 were sold within the first half hour.
