This scheme has been going on for a while so I hadn't had it done until recently because I thought it was too good to be true.

ACTEWAGL's Energy Efficiency team are making free Energy Saving House Calls to homes in the ACT to install products that can help reduce your energy bills. These products are fitted by a certified installer at a time that is convenient to you.

Products include:

• LED downlights
• Energy efficient light bulbs
• Door seals
• Standby power controllers

You do not get to keep the lights they replace.

This program is available to all residential premises in the ACT. Appointments can be made by calling 1300 789 002 or by going to their website.

  By appointment in ACT? Nice. I've had a few people just come knocking on the door here to do it, no idea what company that was with though. I didn't see mention of a minimum but the people who I saw wanted to do regular energy saving bulbs but needed minimum 8 downlights before they would replace them.

  I got this done about 3 months ago. Free door seals and lights. No standby power controllers though.

  I used to do this as a job.
  made about a day's wages of my current job in a couple hours. (doing it the dodgey way)

  Not all houses and not all globes can/will be replaced.

  The ACTEWAGL contractors have a long list of "compatible" transformers. If the transformers are in this list, the globes get replaced.

  My brother-in-law got his replaced after they inspected the transformers. One week later the transformers started failing.

  However, the new LED globes are brighter than the average halogen lights.

  If you have energy bulbs saving bulbs already they wont touch them I made the mistake of booking actew I had energy bulbs already under the impression they would replace every bulb in house no only if you have the old style bulbs they will replace them do your self a favour and putthe older style bulbs in doesn't matter if they don't work that way they will replace them

  You should also know that you will be waiting for at least five months to get them installed due to the demand. I booked a call-out about a month ago and the earliest date was November. ActewAGl is part-owned by the ACT Government which, at a political level, is currently a Labor/Greens alliance. I'm guessing that this is a Labor sop to the Greens so they can be happy bedfellows. That along with the ridiculous new-age tram they plan to build that defies economic and political sense.
