I wonder how many hicaps providers even take amex…

    • True, however, I have paid via AMEX for my Dentist & Physio appointments.

I've never had a medical provider ever accept AMEX, and that's not from lack of trying!

Combine with the https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/204592 spec savers offer. Thinking it might work

    • Spec savers and Doncaster don't take AMEX.

keen to hear back if anyone has tried

      Try in Internet Explorer..

      • Thanks for the suggestion, tried IE11, Chrome & Firefox but same result. Strange. Maybe something to do with work connection. Will try from home tonight.

    • Mine just keeps looping, keep getting asked to enrol which brings me to amex website, i log in go to the rewards click the HICAP deal and says enrol again. Not sure whats going on.

    Any minimum spend?

I can't see it mentioned in the terms, only states $15 credit.

    • Exactly what I am looking for too…

      • No minimal to be spent, they would assume most people would spend more than $15 at their hicaps providers (?)

  • If a buy a pair of sunglasses, let's say from an optical shop and use my amex card to pay for it, will I be eligible to get the $15 back?

  • That's interesting. I had a client try to pay for a service using my HICAPS terminal and the Amex was rejected?!

  • +4

Well thanks for this, I've called HICAPS and they put me onto AMEX, I'm going through the process now of getting a Merchant ID so I can accept Amex and be registered for this promo :D

    • Thanks for accepting AMEX.

    • Hi curlycee, you being a merchant, do you really have to participate in this promotion? Or is it automatic, ie if you take AMEX via HICAPS, your customers will automatically be eligible for that $15 rebate?

      • I don't currently have an AMEX merchant number, so cannot accept AMEX cards. I need to sign up with them to get one, therefore once I have it, I will be able to participate in this promotion :)

  • +2

We got a letter from HICAPS a few months ago saying that AMEX is now accepted.
I remember scoffing at the % fee they wanted - it was something 5% (can't remember exactly how much anymore)

Now I've heard merchant fees for Amex are high but what HICAPS wanted to charge is crazy. So no, we don't take Amex at our shop and you're going to have a hard time finding one that does.

  • Does anyone have a direct enroll link, like the one that goes straight to the form?

(Also, where do those links come from?)

  • Looks like this offer is over/closed?
EDIT: Yeah, nah. I didn't read that message at all. :/ Offer hasn't started.

  • +2

HICAPS offer is now open - register here: https://amexnetwork.com.au/hicaps

    • thank you! Have been trying all morning to register and kept getting an error message; this link got me through!

  • Thanks OP. Registered 7 cards.

    Lucky my dentist is my mate. So 7 X $15 = $105 for 7 X $1 transactions

    • Any idea if supplementary card can be added under this deal? The terms and condition says only base card… Did you get a confirmation for supplementary card as well?

      • +1

Supp cards register fine. Use link just above my comment

      • Just make sure it has a different number than your primary card. This applies to cards from Westpac and some other bank, I forget which, which uses the same number and is essentially the same card (and therefore not eligible to be registered separately for this offer).

        • Thanks mate.. It's CBA which uses same number for supplementary card

  • hav been thinking and thinking how to take advantage of this offer:
    no pharmacy available
some dentists around in my region
    couple of optical stores
but never have anything do to with these places, seems not as useful as a gift card deal

maybe can try to get some toothpaste from the dentist's? :)

    • +1

Or just do a neck-shoulder massage for $15, and it wii be free

      • I don't think you can claim it as a health rebate unless if you do a remedial massage :)

Saying that, I guess if there is a 15 minute remedial massage, then you can!

        • Amex $15 offer works even if you don't have health fund, as long as the transaction happens on HICAPS terminal..

  • I'm thinking of merging this deal with the "Free 2 Gold Class Cinema Vouchers When You Buy Acuvue Contact Lenses" one.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/203425

The OPSM in Bourke Street (Melbourne) accepts AmEx and I recently had my eyes checked (Medicare) and so I'm going to order a few pairs and pay the gap over my three AmEx cards. They accept multiple payments.

    • Just did it for two of my cards. Does anyone know what the MINIMUM spend is? I cannot see anything about that. I ended up putting $15 on one card and the remaining $11.60 on another.

      • No min I guess. If you pay $1 will make $14 profit?

    • Just noticed that that OPSM in Westfield Doncaster has a current 20% off deal
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/205862
      http://res.cloudinary.com/wlabs/image/upload/v1438760919/tcm…

Might be another thing to stack with the gold class tickets and AmEx deal.

    • Edit. Duped.

    • FYI, I did not get any of the usual AmEx emails saying that I would be getting a credit so I did some more research and found that even though a Merchant might accept Amex and use HiCaps, they may not be an eligible AmEx HiCaps merchant according to the AmEx site:

      https://amexnetwork.com.au/hicaps/

I did a quick search for my OPSM under the criteria below and OPSM was not listed. In fact only 3 out of the 9 results were HiCaps Merchants which AmEx recognised.

      Type: Optometrist
      State: VIC
      Suburb: MELBOURNE

If you are planning to do a run then I suggest you look at the above link and make sure your Merchant is listed before you spend there.

      • Yeah, I did that too, but I blame myself for not reading properly. It does say it applies to selected merchants only…

        • I'd still argue with Amex that a couple of the merchants listed in the above link wouldn't accept Amex as payments. Just to test the theory that the merchants in their list actually registered to be a part of this promotion, I rang a couple of them last week and they said that they use the hicaps machine but they don't take amex because the fees are just too expensive.

  • Can you pay with more than different cards for one invoice ?

    • Yes, That depends on your service provider if they are willing to take more than one cards

  • Just thought I’d report back – I enrolled my card about an hour after I swiped my Amex for a dental checkup and still got the $15.
