Can I purchase it with my credit card? Oh, but my credit card offers free travel insurance.

    • I have credit card Insurance too but I still purchase separate insurance. as OP said, check your policy.

e.g. travelling for extended periods. Most likely your travel insurance will not cover trips longer than a month or two.

another example is travelling on cheap fares, or frequent flyer miles. spend threshold may not qualify you for free insurance etc.

Yes you can purchase with your credit card and yes, some credit cards include travel insurance.

It can be worth your while checking how much of your trip you need to purchase on your credit card to activate the travel insurance as levels can vary. Also good to check the benefits included and level of cover for each.

  • Damn, snow cover really bumps it up.. but last time I was at the mountain helicopters picking up mangled skiers was a pretty common occurrence.

  • Thanks OP $20 cheaper than TID for our upcoming trip to the Cook Islands :)

  • just wondering which date should i enter as start date if i want cancellation to be included in the cover ?
travel date is on the 1st Jan 2016.. will be buying tickets within this month…

    • start date will be the actual travel date. it will cover you for cancellations before the travel date.

    • edwinlin88 is correct. The start date is your departure date.

Cancellation cover starts immediately from the time you purchase it and you are covered right up to the start of your trip and also for cancellation during your trip.

It is good to buy your travel insurance as early as possible, especially once you have paid any deposits for your trip so you have cancellation cover for as long as possible.

      • wait if i've purchase some hotels b4 i bought the travel insurance ?

        • Hi annielee,

The order in which you purchase your hotel or plane tickets or insurance is irrelevant. Your Fast Cover travel insurance policy will provide you with cover for anything you book before or after you purchase travel insurance.

        • @Discount traveller: thanks for the clarification

  • Can you confirm the policy covers one-way trips? (up until the "return date" specified", even though I don't return)

    • +1

Yes edwinlin88, policies cover you for a one trip up until the date you specify as your return date regardless of whether you are returning or not.

  • Hi,

I'm travelling from Melbourne to Malaysia (I have credit card insurance).

But from my trip from Malaysia to Hong Kong, I do not have any insurance. Do you cover from Malaysia to Hong Kong?

How do I put the dates? Malaysia departure date to Hong Kong + Hong Kong departure date to Malaysia?

  • Hi ST,

We cannot cover you with a policy that starts with mid trip dates.

You can be covered for the Malaysia to Hong Kong portion of your trip on our travel insurance, however you would need to enter the date you depart Australia as our policies require you to start your insurance from the date you leave Australia.

    • Hi,

Thanks for the quick response. Just like to tap on your experience if you don't mind. I assume almost all insurance companies would required me to be covered from the day I leave Australia (and NOT mid trip).

      • You're assumption is correct for most travel insurance companies. The situation you have described with the limitations of cover offered by the credit card insurance is the reason it can be best to purchase one travel insurance policy for your entire trip.

Separate policies can raise the issue of where you are returned to in the event of an incident such as you falling ill or being injured. If something goes during your Melbourne to Malaysia portion of your trip, travel insurance can help you get back to Australia. But if it were to occur for the Malaysia and Hong Kong portion of your trip and you have a separate policy only for this portion, you may only be returned to Malaysia when you are really wanting to be returned back to Australia.

If you are still wanting to proceed with separate policies, please call us on 1300 409 322 to discuss your trip in more detail and we may be able to refer you to a company who can provide you cover. A more specialist policy like this can however be more expensive than simply purchasing a policy for the full duration of your trip.

  • I cancelled my TID policy for a Fast Cover policy.

I hope the customer service and claims process, if required, is OK…

I scoured the PDS and the covers are comparable for my needs.

Many positive reviews online for TID but cant find many reviews for Fast Cover.

  • Is this valid only for australian residents?

    • Hi flashminator, unfortunately we can only provide Travel Insurance for Australian residents.

  • Purchased, great cover and good inclusions for the price.

Will use again and hopefully wont need to claim
