You live in Docklands, I thought you were a Tightarse
I'll find you one day and buy you a beer…
Scratch that, only if you find a coupon for the beer first.

Actually no, I work there :)

      • +1

        Me too !

      • +3

No wonder business at the Docklands is dead, too many of you guys working there

      • +1

Haha me too, every Woodworm umbrella I buy breaks from the wind at Docklands.

Keep in mind the VAT is removed at checkout when shipping to Aus so your mental math while shopping will need to overshoot 50 pounds

    • Correct. Thanks for pointing this out.

AUD is pretty weak at this stage, the loss on the rate probably is even bigger than £10 compared with several month ago… which makes me more hesitate to buy overseas…

    • Depends. Things like fashion are such a massive ripoff here it's still worth it.

HotUKdeals mentioned a £10 bonus when buying a £40 voucher last week, but not everybody was eligible… My account was not. People already confirmed these two deals work together.

    Original post about it:
    http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/buy-40-amazon-gift-card-get-…

    • Might be worth asking customer service if your account isn't eligible. They're normally very generous in cases like this

    • My account is eligible so I ordered 2 x £20 gift cards. One thing to be aware of is that according to the T&Cs the £10 bonus will be sent 1 day after the purchase of the gift cards so it may not arrive in time to be stacked with the BIGTHANKS promotion code.

      • also the 10 pounds can only be spent on stuff sold by Amazon themselves apparently.

  • What did you buy TA?

    • Nothing. Just ran a test on a couple of Blu-Rays before posting, just to be sure it worked.

      • Oh a true tight arse if I've ever seen one. :)

  • I keep getting an internal server error everytime I try to apply the code

    • Same happened to me, just hit the back button on your browser and the code will have been applied.

    • Me too. I have the 2Tb Toshiba portable HDD in my basket

      www.amazon.co.uk/Toshiba-HDTB320EK3AA-Canvio-Portable-Extern…

this comes in at £49.95 plus shipping to Australia; I never get far enough to see the shipping cost because of the internal server error when I try to apply the code (I tried other items too with similar outcome).

    did anyone buy anything yet?

    • nope shipping always killed it for me even on small items made it the same AUD I could go buy at target for

      • +1

Yeah… Minimum shipping seems to be 11 GBP/17 USD, which is way more than Amazon.com (can be as little as 5 USD).

Can't find anything worth it as of yet.

  • doesn't work for me :(

The promotional code you entered cannot be applied to your purchase.

Maybe because i have a pre-release in the basket

yeah didn't like that .. bugger

  • didnt work for me either

  • Think Amazon may bring back the free shipping to Australia if the dollar stays as is….

    • Small things perhaps… but I doubt they will bring back the times when you could order a lawn mower and have it delivered for just a few dollars all the way from the UK … oh happy days…

      • Honestly didn't know that the UK site allowed much more then movies and books? US site seems alot more flexible.

    • I doubt they will ever bring back free shipping as it was a bit of a debacle for Amazon UK.

When they had it (2011) the AUD/GBP rate was around 0.6500 and I spent up big time over several months ordering hundreds of CD's, DVD's and blu-rays. I've always been a regular buyer and never had a shipment go astray except during the free shipping period when no less than 7 parcels went missing (I was working from home at the time and met the postie each day so it wasn't Australia Post at fault). When I contacted Amazon they said the packages had been returned as undeliverable or rejected by the addressee which was utter rubbish. Whoever they were using to bulk ship them to Australia was obviously at fault. Many of my friends also experienced these same issues. Amazon UK conceded to me that they had experienced quite a few difficulties and I was not surprised when free shipping was later withdrawn.

Luck of the draw I think, I reckon I had one or two of 100s of parcels over the years from either Amazon get lost, one may have even turned up many months later.

They also seem really good if the item gets lost…

        • +1

Totally agree, I've ordered loads from Amazon UK over the years. On the rare occasion something goes wrong they are always quick to refund (or send a new item).

Would love Amazon to open up 'proper' in Oz, would really shake up the lazy high-street retailers. More competition = better prices for us OzBargainers.

  • Wow! Video games are expensive in the UK.

    • Been saying that for a while… we shouldnt' complain about pricing here…. US is just as bad too.

  • +1

From the items I looked at, it's still cheaper to buy from US Amazon even without the coupon

      I think region-free Blu-Rays are good value.

  • I tried to get some Studio Ghibli blu-rays (many are currently 2 for £25). When I went to check out, while the £10 off code worked, each blu-ray was listed at ~£12.50, ie VAT was not removed as usual. Anyone have any ideas?

    • They never remove VAT from the combo deals.

      • :(

        Thanks.
