  • Bought this same one last time - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/202142

    • How is it?

      • +1

I did a quick write-up on cooking a roast in it the day I bought it. Pressure Cookers are great for just about anything, and at $49 it was a bargain. It's very easy to use, and it does what it is supposed to do.

        • Does it do better than the oven? I usually do my pork roast in the oven.

        • @stargalaxy: I can't see how it could do the crackling.

        • -1

          @stargalaxy:

Sous vide is where it's at. Seriously best roast pork ever!

        • @stargalaxy: You can also cook it in the Microwave for 10 minutes at the end.

        • Fitzy, in your write-up you said you were able to brown after pressing the Manual button. The manual says the "The appliance will not operate/cook without the lid being in the correct closed position." Was the lid off all the time you were browning?

        • @A Penny Saved: Yes, you can cook with the lid off using the manual button, that's how you brown the meat, cook your onions etc before starting the pressure cooking cycle. You cant activate pressure cooking with the lid off, that's what it means. Manual just heats up the element underneath. Cheers

        • @Fitzy777: Thanks for confirming that. Bellini might be losing some sales with that wording in their instruction manual, if like me, not being able to saute is deal-breaker.

      • I bought it in the last offer and find its really good. I don't have a rice cooker and use it alot for that. Have also made beef and lamb casserole which is completed within 30min. Super handy. Bit annoying to clean after but saves me alot of cooking time and having to monitor the stove top.

Can't take it out to clean?

        • +3

@superforever: Yes you can take the inside out to clean - just don't like cleaning prefer the cooking part ;-)

    • I bought the same one maybe 1 year ago, it remains unopened till now, one of those impulse buy because it is cheap, think I pay $69 for it.

I have one of these and it's great for pressure cooking. Less stress than having a stove-top pressure cooker, and at 49 dollars it's good value. I've only used this one for about a month, probably gets 3 uses per week and has been fine. Cleaning the lid is a bit of a pain, especially waiting for it to dry. But besides that, it's great. Pressure cooking is great for winter.

  • Always wanted one. Would they get much use in summer?

  • Get the Ronson one next time it comes on sale. If this Bellini one is like mine you'll find it doesn't have a browning function which involves using another pan and more cleaning up.

    • Yes that's true it doesnt let you pre-cook within it only the pressure cooking part. But still much faster than conventional cooking.

    • Thanks for the reminder on that useful function, Punkboy. I wouldn't have remembered to check, bought it and then be regretting my hasty purchase every time I have to wash the pan.

    • This one has a "Manual" button so you can brown/saute before you want to use the pressure cooking cycle. I have actually done it myself.

  • These things are great…hard to find good recipes though.

    • Punkboy why is the Ronson brand better?

      • I think you clicked the wrong reply button.

      • I've got the Ronson cooker and i think the main advantage is that it has got a saute option over the Bellini.

      • The Ronson brand itself isn't necessarily better, its just that it also comes with an additional function to saute or brown the meat you are cooking prior to pressure cooking and has also goes on bargain price occasionally. This will give the best flavour to any meat that you are cooking. Otherwise you need to use another fry pan or saucepan and wash that up. Ideally you want a one pan solution :-)

    • I thought you just Chuck whatever into it, and it WILL magically turn to something amazing that you put in your mouth?

Google "pressure cooker recipes" and you will find oodles of recipes

A word of caution: electric pressure cookers don't reach the same pressure as stove-top models.

So the cooking times in recipes won't apply. You will need to cook the food for longer.

I missed last deal, glad it's back.

  • I recommend electric pressure cookers (generally speaking, not specific to this brand / model). Their main advantages are:

    • Automatic
    • Faster than conventional cooking
    • Way faster than slow cooking
    • Easier to clean up than slow cookers
    • More protection against overheat / over pressure than stove top pressure cookers

It's possible to cook tender lamb shanks in under 2 hours.
