      • +1

I seriously hope that there is a deal on "arse", so that the code becomes arsearse, or arseception or arsesquared.

He's probably laying by the pool with his M8s locked into his Google cardboard looking for new bargains as we speak.

Any chance of a deal on the Moto G (2015)?

    • +1

      I concur

  • Already bought a Zenfone 2. DAMN IT! XD

  • HTC One M8s or LG G3 (D855 32GB, 3GB RAM version)?

    • the M8s are Australian stock with HTC Australia warranty, the other is grey import no LG Australia warranty.

    • +2

      What are you looking for?

      HTC One M8 for:
      * Speakers
      * Aluminium (nicer feeling, but cold) construction. Solid.

      LG G3 for:
      * Waaaaaay better camera, no competition.
      * 'Dual window' function - 2 apps at once, e.g. YouTube on top, Chrome on bottom.
      * Rear buttons (beats the M8's top power button IMO… and handy to customize it for camera shortcut)
      * Replacable batteries.

      • I reckon Z2 is much better. It's fragile , but you can buy case + screen protector for it

        • +2

How is it (Sony Xperia Z2) much better than the LG G3?

It depends on what you are looking for:

          The Sony Xperia Z2 for:
          * Certified water / dust resistance (IP67 I believe)
          * Front facing stereo speakers (though tinny compared to the HTC)
          * Glass, rectangular slab design looks awesome, though this is purely subjective. (…though it is a very large phone with sharp corners)

          The G3 for:
          * 1080p continuous video recording without shutdowns (unlike the Z2, unless Sony have fixed it)
          * Better camera. (I'm basing this on the results of PhoneArena's blind tests, which usually always show that Sony phone cameras are very poor.)
          * Multi-tasking. You can use Chrome and YouTube at the same time with the LG; you don't have this option with the Sony (rather, you have 'useful' multitasking apps like a clock, timer or Sony's browser). Dual-Apps (LG) >> Small-Apps (Sony) in my opinion.
          * Smaller and rounder; easier to handle.
          * Replaceable battery (but the z2's internal battery is very long lasting)

I'm going mainly by functionality. The z2 is aesthetically a very beautiful phone in my opinion (albeit large), and if you're into that, go with the z2. But if for functionality, the g3.

          Just my opinion.

          @inose:

I reckon you're biased to LG Gx product

        • @inose:
All good phones really, if you want good speakers get htc, (sort of) good camera get LG, waterproofing get sony.
I personally don't find any phone camera to be good, but handy to have a higher resolution one to take notes on the board as I'm a uni student. (So in this case the m8s, g3/g4, and z2 can handle that pretty well)

        • -1

          @rodinthink:

I gave the pros for EACH phone… and based on those merits, I would recommend a LG G3.

          How's that bias?

(Maybe you're bias, by ignoring the advantages of the alternative phone?)

Both are good phones at the end of the day.

        • +1

@inose: Everyone has a coloured glasses, no one is completely free from it. I'd say you left out QHD screen on Snapdragon 801 is too much for the SoC to handle and the overheating issues that I've heard several times (with display generating fair bit of heat). Not to mention sharpening effect LG placed on QHD screen to "make it look better". Also, zerogap technology means a small crack renders half of your phone touchscreen dead (more or less).

Dual windows is not a unique feature on LG phones and rear button is, I have a lot of words for it, but I will simply say it's not a plus, but rather a preferential thing. If it works for you, I am happy for you, but I always have to guess what my finger is pressing every time I use my gf's phone. I'd say knock on feature and knock code is pretty cool though.

        • -1

          @AznMitch:

It's difficult isn't it… I'm trying not to be bias, but when you look at things objectively (in my opinion, I must add… ), there is a better phone at the end of the day.

I haven't heard of any overheating issues on the G3 that would hinder everyday activities.

However, check out PhoneArena's and Erica Griffen's YouTube reviews on the Z2… The SoC overheats and shuts down the phone or crashes, with continuous 1080p video recording.

          That's not good…

Edit: Dual apps is available on the G3, and yea it's not unique (started with the mainstream Galaxy s3), but my point was that it's much better in the g3 than the z2. It doesn't have to be a pro, obviously, if you're not going to use it.

Knock Code is cool, but not a pro if you're not going to use it, likewise. Knock On is available on the G3 too, and a clone function is also available on the m8.

        • The thing that turned me off the Z2 is the hyperactive auto-focus when shooting video. If you're interested in shooting nice video, first watch some samples and see if you can tolerate the constant and unnecessary refocusing. Also Sony's customer support is abhorrent.

        • +1

@inose: I apolgise for bringing Korean site onto this, but I've never seen anybody doing a proper test with proper equipments other than these guys.

Check 11, where they measure temperature, and 12, throttling.
I think the graph and the measurments are straight forward, you could read them without knowing Korean. (though, the website may load slowly due to the number of image files there).

          http://www.playwares.com/xe/42190375

In short, G3 had reached the highest temperature in samples on both on average and highest temperature in the group (including ones that used same SoC, i.e. Z2, S5, and snapdragon 800 devices, z1, G2, G Pro 2 and nexus 5). Also, the AnTuTu score was worse than most of the Snapdragon 801 devices after running the test several times and on par with many Snapdragon 800 devices (for testing throttling). In fact, if you look at certain conditions, G2 and G Pro 2 has higher marks.

EDIT: Galaxy Note series had pop-up windows/multi-window since Note 2, just saying. I also believe many custom firmwares offer similar solutions, so yeah. I really hate going to "who did this, that first", but the whole knock to wake phone concept was done by Nokia in 2008. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KA3DMCs984o&feature=youtu.be

        • @AznMitch:

          Hey mate no worries.

Sorry but (profanity) this, I don't want to argue over this issue. It's dumb. The winners are the smartphone companies.

I gave my opinion based on my research when I was buying a phone. The z2 overheats to render it useless, when you need to count in it (video recording), the g3 doesn't (again, Erica Griffen's and PhoneArena's review).

Yes, I know the Note 2 has Multi Window, but as stated before, the Samsung Galaxy S3 had it first (and then LG followed, then came Sony's unhelpful implementation).

Yes, I know the knock-to-wake feature was first implemented by Nokia. But I'm taking about Mainstream phones… LG made it famous with their G2, and then HTC followed later with their m8. Nokia was long out of the game before 2008 ;)

Everyone else, again, not my fight, take my advice or not, I don't care it's not my job.

          inose out, itchy nose.

        • @inose: I frankly like following the market, I personally think it's the latest toy that we've created that has potential to be useful (seeing how much power it has). Not to mention how I love the tech and the advancement in tech due how overblown the market is.

That's why I've commented, I simply wanted to correct few things. In the end, numbers don't lie, people do (and that's why I've brought up benchmarks and measurements). Not really an advocate of a fight, since there is no point in it really.

        • @AznMitch:

Ok now you've hit a nerve… Where did I lie?

        • @inose: I am sorry if I sounded like I was implying you've lied. I am sorry if I came across as saying that. When I mentioned, "numbers don't lie, people do", I've mentioned that because that's my personal moto on approaching reviews and measurements; I usually skip people talking on the reviews and go straight to the benchmarks and measurements for that reason. I thought I should mention why I've stuck to measurements.

It's a personal thing, I've seen placebo effects, biases, etc etc influencing the validity of experiments and such too much (a feat that comes with being a science student who focuses on behaviours I guess).

        • @AznMitch:

Ahh OK all good, cheers. Benchmarks tell one side of the story, and yes, eliminates bias… Good that you can appreciate that.

  • What is the main difference of M8 and M8s?

  • These are Vodafone branded (but unlocked), I guess that means you need to wait for Vodafone for updates to the phone?

edit, the M8s is vodafone, the other is unbranded.

    • +1

You could always flash a generic ROM to get faster updates, I always do.

  • Congrats TA! Have you got any pulling power on a good deal for an iphone 6?? My sister really wants one. I'm personally a fan of android though, but unfortunately i can't convince her to come over to the dark side.

  • The M8s is NOT better then the Standard M8 don't get fooled people.
Don't want people thinking it's the same or better then the standard M8 in the same way people didn't know the LG G3 Beat was worse then the standard LG G3.

Nice deal though at least for the standard M8

  • And for those wondering, the "S" has band 5 LTE [850] a 13 rather than a 4 Mp camera, and a bigger [2840mAh vs 2600mAh] battery. It is running an 8-core, 1700 MHz, ARM Cortex-A53, 64-bit and adreno 405 GPU compared with the Quad core, 2300 MHz, Krait 400 and adreno 330 GPU in the other version.

    • -2

4 Ultra Pixel camera not Mega pixel.

      • +2

That's marketing speak. It's still a 4MP camera, just with larger pixel size.

        • +3

I actually took some great photos with my m7 in relative darkness until Th camera went purple and shit went south

        • @Jackson:
          Me too!
But after that debacle I promised myself to never again but a HTC
The non existent customer support was appalling

        • @Jackson:

Purple tint is a common issue that warranty return rectifies.

        • @Jackson: I bought 2 x HTC One M7 phones just under 2 years ago. Both had the notorious purple camera problem and had to be fixed under warranty. One has just had its microphone fail (another well known problem). I won't be buying another HTC unfortunately.

  • And for those wondering, the "S" has band 5 LTE [850] a 13 rather than a 4 Mp camera, and a bigger [2840mAh vs 2600mAh] battery. It is running an 8-core, 1700 MHz, ARM Cortex-A53, and adreno 405 GPU compared with the Quad core, 2300 MHz, Krait 400 and adreno 330 GPU in the other version.
I'm glad I stopped there - AznMitch has done the hard yards already :-)

    • I miss the days when Qualcomm actually released a decent flagship SoC for the phones. 810, a fiery failure, made the entire phone market bloody boring. I've seen the leaks on the new Sony phones, they looked great: capless waterproof function, fingerprint sensor on the power button (which looked like a cool idea), and Snapdragon 810 killed my hype.

Similar thing happened with the new Lumia phones coming out, so on and so forth.

      • I know what you mean, it seems weird looking back that I used to get excited when a phone had a Snapdragon SoC. They had a monopoly on the mainstream market, so they stopped caring and produced the awful S810 and even the S615 is terrible, it overheats just as much. I really hope Samsung start selling their SoCs to other OEMs, the 7420 is fantastic. Hopefully the 820 can improve and bring Qualcomm back.

        • From what I've heard, Snapdragon has a monopoly because they bundle their modem in their SoC (and refuse to sell modem by itself). Though Snapdragon 800 was a good SoC, I still think it holds well.

I hate this situation more since Samsung started to have some monopolistic power as there are no competition in the SoC market. There is a rumour that Samsung will not put 7422 on note 5, but rather just use overclocked 7420, because there are no SoC in the market that can compete with 7420, at least in the Android market.

        • +1

@AznMitch: Mediatek is slowly pushing their cpu's performance up and I think their next gen might possibly be comparable to the cpu you mention. Atleast in solely cpu performance, Mediatek always seem to put a mid range GPU onboard.

Anyways the Helio X30 coming up = http://www.phonearena.com/news/MediaTeks-upcoming-Helio-X30-…

"quad-cluster design with two ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1GHz, two Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5Ghz, two Cortex-A72 cores clocked at 2GHz and four of those powerful ARM Cortex-A72 cores clocked at 2.5GHz." Should be more than comparable to the Samsung if they actually do stay true to their word

        • @Kikkoman56: And Qualcomm said s810 had no throttling issues and Samsung said 4410 can do Heterogeneous Multi-Processing. I somehow have my doubts (and I will be more than glad to be wrong in this case).

        • @AznMitch: Yeah it definitely does seem a tad bit ridiculous that they'll manage to fit that many cores on there without any issues… I'm definitely glad they're atleast using a high performance variant though instead of just using a larger number of low power usage cores.

        • +1

@Kikkoman56: I really should be more glad… At least 2016 will have more competition. :)

  • Onearse, but I can see two deals!

  • +3

Congrats on your 1600th deal TA

  • +1

    My bad.

  • Difference in specs between the two is rather confusing.

Doesn't help that mobilciti says they both only have 4mp cameras. :p

Not sure which phone I'd choose, honestly. I guess it's a good deal, but not enough for me, I reckon.

    • +2

M8 was around this priceat the end of last year at DSE. Don't know why the M8s is included in deal since that is a rather standard price for a mid range android phone.

      • +1

But it's posted by TA so it must be a good deal…

  • Those that obtained and havent yet sold their htc m8s from telstra deal must be spewing. Not going to get ~$500 with these sort of deals around.

  • +2

    im waiting for XPERIArse

  • So the M8s… a phone from 2015… releases with android 4.3? A version of Android from two years ago? A version older than the version the M8 originally released with last year (4.4.2)?

EDIT: Or is this just a mistake on mobileciti… yeah that seems to be the case.

    • +1

      Hi Alzori

Thx for point this out, M8s come with Android OS, v5.0 (Lollipop).

      • Will you have the clearance for Xperia Z2 ? will snatch streit away if you have any
I thought Z3+ just released so you guys have stock clearance on this prstigious sony phone.
Will buy if you guys have any in stock, much better phone compared to most phone in most aspect IMHO despite the fragile body and screen.

  • I noticed that there is a difference in what is there in the box for both the models in their site
    HTC ONE M8S

HTC ONE M8(Perfect Working Condition) — why did they mention this?
    HTC Data Cable
    HTC Travel Charger

    HTC One M8

    HTC ONE M8
    HTC Data Cable
    HTC Handsfree
    HTC Travel Charger
    User Guide

Is this the reason why the coupon is valid for M8s grey and Not M8 grey?

    • Hi dvr82

there is mistake on the package content, fixed.

M8 Grey, our stock low not able to inc on this deal, should take advantage on the current offer M8 gold and M8s Grey!

  • +2

After going to Note 4 from the m8, I really miss the speakers and Sense. The note 4 despite using more powerful SoC feels slower and laggy in comparison. The m8 feels much more premium phone than most other flagships too, and it's aesthetics are more appealing imo. The only downside to me was the camera, but then I found after owning the Note 4 that the camera still isn't that crash hot either. Especially once you upload your photo's online and they get compressed, they actually don't look too much better. And the advantage the m8 camera had it took better pictures in low light, and was way faster.

    • I know what you mean. I've gone to a Note 4 from a G2 and overall it seems a bit of a sideways move..

    • You do have to count in the QHD screen as well (I hate QHD screens for that reason, if you are going to drain battery, remove most of the advantage of having a better SoC, why have them?). Though I do agree, Samsung should invest more on software (their software is, bloats, bloats and bloats everywhere without giving you enough useful stuff). I've even heard people tweaking GPU governors, because how Samsung made the GPUs to run really made the animations to lag (so I've heard at least).

  • +1

    What was wrong with ARSEM8?
Congrats on 1600 not out TA

  • Congrats on your 1600th deal TA :-)

  • +1

Tempted to try and sell my one m7 and upgrade. I just love the speakers and sense. Ditched nova launcher for it.

    • I'm on the same boat! My 64GB M7's battery is slowly dying so I'm gonna sell it soon. The problem is I have another brand new 32GB M7 sitting on the table and I'm deciding whether I should sell it too to get a new phone or just keep using the second M7 til it dies too.

      • I have an m7 and have issues, purple camera, crap battery (does T last a day, probably till 8pm), speakers went quiet and earpiece is quiet. Did the mandatory factory reset then sent it back under warranty and it was refused as there is a nearly invisible hairline crank in the bottom left corner of the glass where the soft key is, doesn't extend into the screen. Either of you guys have any of these issues?

        • Yeah I had the purple camera issue on my m7, took it back to Telstra and got given a new replacement.

  • Between this phone M8 to Sony Xperia Z2 & LG G3, which one would you prefer m8?
Despite the Z2 fragile screen issue and m8 dcent quality of video and camera.

  • +2

For $100 extra, I'd go for a grey import G4 any day

  • +1

    Congrats TA

  • +2

The m8 is Amber gold? C'mon tightarse, you've got to get the discount across all colours. I've been itching for an m8 but amber gold == dealbreaker. I understand the "metal grey" colour should remain $10 more than amber gold, and I'm cool with that.

  • The excessive top and bottom bezel is ridiculous and space wasting

    • +5

it's speakers, and it has smaller bezels than most phones.

      • Yeah I wish more phones offered the quality speakers that the m8 does. I'm yet to come across a tablet that offers the speaker quality either.

        • Some of the HP tablets (don't buy them please, HP has the /worst/ build quality, slow cpus and BEETS BY DER branding) have front facing speakers.

      • The black border around the screen with the HTC logo which serves no purpose is what I was referring to as a waste of space.

        • HTC said that area is solely for the wires and stuff of speakers, true or not I don't know, but you should at least know that they have said something about it.

        • @clse945111: That's probably why then, to give them more space inside.

    • +4

That's how they get the boomsound, which everyone applauds as a feature

  • +1

Sorry dudes, but all this in
difference of opinion, is doing my head in. Is TA's htc deal (BTW Congrats on the 1600) a good one? Is the phone the best for my missus?(she being a hard task-master?) Thanks All
