  • Is the Windows 8.1 licence transferable to another PC?

    • Not really, nowadays there's no license key coming with the machine (already embedded). (But you can probably move the hard drive out to the other machine, and then phone ms to activate)

  • not bad if you want the licence, though with reddit a legit oem one is really cheap.

and i prefer the nuc form factor.

  • Hi OP, any special deal for NUC or Brix with 8GB RAM, cheers,

  • OP, is the coupon code suggested by you?

  • Looks like great value. I agree re sentiment about replacing the HDD with an SSD to make it fly.

I set up my i5 NUC over the weekend that I got from TA's other SE deal, and I'm loving it. Running Win 10 Pro and it flies.

  • how this compare to my current laptop in terms of performance. is this any good?

    Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-3317U (1.7 GHz, 3 MB L3 cache)
    Chipset: Intel HM77 Express
    Memory: 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3(1 x 4 GB)
    Memory slots: 2 user accessible
Internal drive: 500 GB SATA (5400 rpm)
    Display: 14" diagonal HD BrightView LED-backlit Display (1366 x 768)
    Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000

Its Atom architecture, its much slower.

    • +1

Your CPU scores 3k on CPU benchmark, CPU in deal PC scores 2k. Yours in theory is about 50% faster.

      Rest is about even.

  • Pretty good price for a factory built box (esp. from Lenovo. I know the spyware and sh1t but this model doesn't have a door in the BIOS so you can fix it by a clean install). Building one yourself would cost you roughly $250 without windows license.

  • What are the specs on the ram and wireless card? 4gb at 1333, 1600? ddr3?

  • PLEASE keep in mind this is based on Atom architecture, its processing performance is not good.
Even big web pages will feel slow on this machine.

ie: Woolworth online shopping site. :p

    • Not really. It is the Bay Trail architecture but BT isn't just for tablets. There's 3 different types of Bay Trail CPUs (for consumers anyway). BT-D (desktop, BT-M (mobile) and BT-T (tablet). The desktop processors have 2-3x higher TDPs to the tablet CPUs, and also around 2x the performance. My BT-T tablet is pretty peppy, it can do 720p60 YouTube videos on 2GB of RAM. Atoms aren't as bad as they were yesterday..

      • Video playback is accelerated so its not actually a good example of the IPC performance.
The clock speed is really only 10-20% higher on the desktop variants.
They are certainly not as bad as they were, but their single core performance is still poor by modern standards and you can feel it even in standard desktop tasks.

  • How well will it run xmbc/kodi

    • Should be pretty well, running 1080p is easy nowadays.

    • why not just buy raspberry pi 2? if you only going to use it for kodi. its cheaper and you will save in power consumption.

  • The only thing that puts me off is the nasty looking proprietary yellow rectangle power socket:

    http://cc.cnetcontent.com/inlinecontent/production/ea/eafa33…

    • you can paint it :P

    • Why would you care how is it look as it's plug inside the case? If you mean it is not durable, yes that's true but not a problem for desktop.

      • The key word here is proprietary, the rest is superfluous.

Like say I wanted to run it off a standard universal laptop power supply, maybe a 12v system in a car, that's not a common power socket plug type I've ever seen before.

  • Can anyone advise the price of a monitor compatible with this tiny pc please?

    • +1

      All of the monitors.

      • Hi
I watched the video clip from the link, and it looks like a case attached to the monitor that can be locked.
My monitor, a bit oldfashioned, doesn't have a room to fit this size of device attached in the ck of the monitor.

        Cheers,
        J

you will need to buy a optional bracket to mount it behind the screen. probably the Intel NUC is better choice for you as it comes with the bracket.

  • How do you think this pc would go on windows 10 streaming Xbox one from my living room to bedroom? Would save me buying a second Xbox, and also a lot of space….

  • Any chance of This Monitor getting a discount also? It's always nice to have matching kit.

  • Any chance you guys sell gigabyte brix series?

  • If only it had a 120gb SSD…

  • Does the OP get a cut from these deals?

    • +4

I dunno but I think @Maverick-au might, the way he's so vigorously defending Lenovo's inarguably questionable treatment of their customers' security.

      • +2

Yeah, his posts screams damage control.

  • Thanks - great deal and bought 2. O/S is a bonus too.

I was in the market for a couple of NUCs but these are better value and have that single extra USB port that saves me having to use a USB hub. Use will be POS and general office stuff so combined with a 128G SSD they'll be perfect and I get a couple of 500G drives to throw into external cases.

Slightly bigger than NUCs but not an issue in practice as they'll be hidden behind a monitor anyway.

Now could do with a couple more 128G SSD offers:)
