What's the cheapest android phone they sell to redeem this then? Answer 700$. Meh.

    • $696 for S5 16gb

    • yeah not the best tbh, unless you were going to buy it anyway; or work or insurance is paying for it

  • $696 is not quite "free" really, is it?

nobody ever said there was no purchase necessary.

      • No but the point is the Chromecast costs $696. Your falling for the seperate ledger fallacy (a term which i just coined, yippee) where you're creating a seperate ledger for the supposedly free item but it's actual cost is $696. Oh yeah and you get a free phone as well now.

      • nobody ever said there was no purchase necessary.

they did - it is not free if it comes with obligations. Does your employer give you free money?

    Not a great deal.
    Samsung Galaxy S5 - Officeworks - $629

    Chromecast - Harvey Norman - $38

and a $20 Google Play Gift Card

    $687

Am I missing something? I'm sure you could probably do this with most of the other phones.

Edit: It might be an alright deal for some of the phones to buy from bricks and mortar, I'd like to take back the minus (still don't think it is a bargain but might not deserve the minus.

I have bought a Moto X for 469 price matched from Mobileciti and managed to get chromecast and credit. Can prove it with receipt if anyone is interested.

    • Nice work, that's a hot phone.

  • Why Android phones are getting more and more expensive these days? Google offers a free OS, doesn't it?

    • 2 words: exchange rate.

The phones aren't more expensive in USD terms, it's just that the USD-AUD conversion rate was unusually good for a while, and we got used to the lower gadget pricing.

This should be described as a "bundle" deal. Not Free. BTW Ebay put a stop to this practice a few years ago.
