      • Im assuming he has the note 3 and wants to upgrade to the note 4 edge. I would upgrade to the note 5

        • yes. using note 3 now, since january 2015 bought 2nd hand.
hmm note 5 has no sdcard i feel i need it, unless i can afford 64gb model which definitely i cant
          now using 32gb card.

    • +4

After using the note 3 for almost 2 years and switching over to the note 4, i didnt notice much of a difference tbh on a day to day usage. I'd say save some money and stick with the note 3.

    • Wait for Note 5 or S6 Edge+?

  • Great phone in my experience.

The upgrade to note 4 isn't a very big leap processor-wise, i feel like the touchwiz lag is slightly worse on the note 4 in comparison to the note 3. The lag is mostly noticeable when multitasking. Touchwiz has it's perks, but that touchwiz lag is disappointing for a flagship phone.

  • I still cant update the software, still stuck at Android 4.4.
Got the phone from Vodaphone, good one so far, just the GPS signal is terrible.

    • -1

      just root it

      • If you root and install Cyanogenmod, you will lose the OTA FM radio and your camera will work intermittently. Apart from these issues, the phone will be awesome.

        • Actually, the camera is already bad, i dont want to make it worse.
But thank you for the advice.

        • i mean root and install other better TW custom roms. you want to keep spen features on this note phone, that is one of the advantages of buying note series

        • +1

Man Cyanogenmod and Samsung cameras has ALWAYS been a nightmare, nightmare, nightmare :( it's such a disaster.

        • the note 3 doesn't have an FM radio?

but I agree with inusure that the GPS signal is pretty bad

        • yeah no radio.
and camera, hmm anyone try google camera? not cardbox, but the camera app

        • @CVonC:
I think 8 out 10 times when i use google map on Note 3 to get direction, it just shows GPS signal lost whereas my brother with his iphone 5s smashed screen and damaged still up and run accurately.
I thought it was the software first, but then i found out that it happens to many users. Sad so sad.

        • @inusure:

Yep takes me ages to get a fix too. I have to hold my phone out so it's under the windscreen to get lock. And even while driving it loses lock often. So annoying. Didn't have this problem with my shitty LG Optimus 2X

  • +3

Getting rid of my note 4 due to touchwiz lag, not sure how good the note 3 is in terms of speed/lag, my guess is that it lags less due to it being 1080p.
I just wouldn't bother with a Samsung phone anymore, camera is slow, gallery is slow, everything is slow. Never had the same problem with other Android brands. (Don't have an iPhone)

There's just something funny with the note 4, every time I click on an app, there's always a significant delay between the click and the app actually showing up. Camera quality is good though, but that's not enough to compensate the slowness.

    • The S6 is quite snappy, great camera etc. Shame about all the other dumb stuff Samsung did with it.

  • +2

The price will only drop further given that the Note 5 is being released next month.

  • +11

That seems awfully expensive, the Note 4 will be that price any day now.

    • +1

Agreed. A decent price for this would be $350-$399 new.

  • If this was for the dual sim version, I'd jump on it. I'd just wait given release of Note 5.

  • Good price.

  • Cheapest Note 4 i can find now is $719 from DickSmith.
    So it's:
Note 3 with office works 5% for around $485.
    Note 4 $719 DS
    Note 5 for $970 from T-Dimension free delivery or 64Gb $1077

Anyone know what happens with TD for over $1000? Gst and import duty?

    • Need to pay 10%.

      • do they include the 10%? if custom/delivery company deals with it = close to 20% extra

        • If they ship from Hong Kong then the price you pay to them does not include GST, therefore the GST will be charged when you import it in. (For over $1000)

        • @clse945111: They emailed and said:

We will mark down the value to be under AUD 1000 as a gift in order to decrease the chance of getting held by the local customs for GST. Although there is no guarantee, the chance is very slim.

        • @clse945111:

if DHL or so report it over $1000 , there is a FEE = more than 10%

      • Have you or anyone else here ever had to pay that 10%? I bought a laptop 4 years ago from usa, where the seller valued it at over 1000 aud despite me asking if he could reduce it. It was sent through fedex and i wasnt asked to pay that 10%. I mightve just been lucky.

        • I did … usually OK , but 1 time a bag from UK got taxed :(

    • +1

Note 4 was $699 from DSE a week or two ago.
      It's been cheaper, months ago.

You'll see it here cheap in the next couple of months. I wouldn't pay more than $500 for an Aussie unlocked one now, not considering the Note 5's launch

      • If you can get your hands on one. No stock at Optus, DSE had very few left. I had to ring around to four DSE stores to get one.

  • Still using Note3…going strong..bought it on day one release along with the first Gear.
No lag/lock ups/freeze what-so-ever. Battery lasts me 1 whole day of medium use..which includes lots of reddit, browsing, whatsapp, text, some phone calls, games.

Used to play Battlefield Commander on it… :)

    • which custom rom?

      • +1

        You'd be surprised….. stock :)
It had 2 years warranty…so I thought meh…keep it stock and not hit the Knox counter, so if it hits the bucket I'll get it replaced. Rooting and flashing the rom on my previous Note 1 (profanity) it up because of Samsung's eMMC bug which they refused to fix.

The 2 year warranty is expiring in September…that's when am going to flash either Darklord or Alliance.

        • ah ic.
darklord is ported rom so maybe some functions are not working ie nfc mostly.
alliance not so updated, have a look at aryamod or omega. make sure you get one with latest base POF3
          welcome to the root world

  • I know some people prefer iPhone , but I'm biased to android and don't want to spend time to get used to another OS.
    This , Xperia Z2 or HTC M8?

    • If you like touchwiz then this (yes, some people actually like touchwiz). If not, I personally find HTC's UI, speakers and screen better, and Sony's waterproofing is good (and camera should be better than the m8 in normal lighting).

    • +2

Camera - The best camera out of the bunch is the Note 3, hands down (just look at the results of PhoneArena's blind tests. Xperias (any Xperia) or any HTCs are always least liked, in the blind tests.

Sound - HTC One M8 is the best choice.

Screen - I'm going to go with the Note 3, for its size and AMOLED technology.

Multitasking - Note 3, hands down. Multi-window etc.

Performance (speed) - probably the M8. The Xperia Z2 comes with a lot of bloat, as much as the Note 3… makes it potentially slower.

Durability - I'm going to go with the M8 - it's like a tin can.

Water proofing - the Z2 is officially IP rated… I believe it was IP68. Note that it's probably NOT covered if it gets water damanged, ironically. THe others aren't rated.

      • Good advice m8.
Haha , meet you again from HTC M8 bargain.
I was so obsessed with Z2 after intense research and looking at review.
How was the argument with AznMitch?

Don't get me wrong, I was almost swayed to buy LG G3 product because it's the un-official google nexus which is gr8 m8
But LG G3 use 1440p which I reckon make the icon too small and consume much more battery which I think is important to me.

  • iPhone is bad

    • +1

Bad Apple… just like Nick Kygrios.

      • Just like Tony Abbott.

  • Got the Note 4 for $600 a while ago

    • Where was the deal?

      • +1

Sorry mate, have to clarify what I meant by a while ago was 5 months ago. It was while Ebay was having a 20% off all purchases and Harvey Norman was still selling the Note 4 at $788 instead of their current price of $888.

  • wrong post

  • old phone is old

  • I have a note 4, best fone I ever used period! (Prior also a Note3 user).
Price is good if you want one now for note 3! But if you can wait for Note 4 price drop which is imminent now that Note 5 is officially released overseas, wait for it…. much better super sharp Quad HD screen even in bright sunlight I can see clearly compared with my old note 3 and much better camera as well and faster processor obviously.

Boycotting Note 5, stupid Samsung IMHO, they fail to see and think we are all isheep who like the same as s6. IMHO Note users tend to be more of a "power user", hence need replaceable Battery and MircoSD unlike S6 users (no offence to S6 user like my wifey for example) where she is just a "general user". I do not want to carry a silly power bank when I can replace my battery from 0 to 100% in 15 seconds in a simple battery swap and never have to send for service with all my personal and work info when the battery starts dying and 128gb MicroSD storage….which you could also do in Note 3 (maybe 64Gb card max only I think)!
I bet Note 5 sales will be a flop judging by this Note 3 demand, even at $499 plenty of takers!

  • +1

I'll wait for the 20% off ebay deal to buy Note 5. By then, the price should fall below $700.

  • any note series with a zero lemon battery is a win win for me.

im saving my pennies for the note 4 and zerolemon battery

  • Fantastic phone. The stylus is great, big battery. You can swap a battery if you need to. The Faux leather back makes it great to hold with just the right amount of grip.

I wanted to upgrade from the Note 3 to the 5, but after seeing what happened… I think I'll hold on a little bit longer.

  • This phone is selling very fast but stock levels still showing 100%.

    • My bet is that it's not a real time stock level.

      • +1

My bet is that they aren't really selling fast

        • correct. the thread active by current owner of the phone.

    • Yeah I doubt it's selling fast, $499 is way tooooo expensive.

    • No way this will sell fast $500 for a 2 years old (2013 Sep release) phone, thats very expensive!

      • bought 2nd hand from ebay $315 in january this year with box, belkin cover and battery case
        probably now $275 on ebay
