    Resolution 768 x 1024 pixels (~160 ppi pixel density) .

Totally agree, I got one of these then returned it for the Galaxy Tab S.
The difference is night and day in the display quality.
Fine and small text is very hard to read on the A, and would probably lead to eye strain imho.
Probably ok for the price if you aren't doing too much reading though.

Shame Tab S is a lot more expensive :(

        • Saw on eBay, second hand few month old but with one hairline cracks, final price was $200!

        • @erwinsie: Hehe, only one unit available, doesn't really qualify for an OB deal :P

        • @edfoo:
I got my Tab S brand new a few months ago for around $225 after all discounts and cash backs.

        • @whitey:
Was that the eBay good guys deal?

        • @erwinsie: cracks make it bad to resell if and when you are done with it.
i picked up a HTC Nexus 9 for $250 1 year old still with some warrenty and it was mint condition. with no cracks.

the nexus 9 is very compairable to the tab s.

        • @nismo:
          Nah, was DS.

        • @holden93: yeah I didn't bid on that one but at the end won eBay item galaxy note 10.1 4g model local stock, one year old, with case and box, delivered for $250 (after $50 eBay voucher). Not a bad deal, right?

        • @erwinsie: which model of the note 10.1? The 2014?
Cheapest ive seen the 2014 model is 200 I didn't have money when I saw it so couldn't buy lol. Non 4g though so if yours was the 2014 it's still a great find.

        • @holden93: yeah 2014.not super bargain but I need to use the eBay voucher anyway.

        • @erwinsie:good price considering it has 4g.

        • There will be big discounts when it goes on clearance. Tab S2 is coming, and it will have the same dimensions and resolution as iPad.

This will be a good time to get one because Samsung is moving away from widescreen tablets and copying Apple for everything.

    • Plenty of iPad 2 users are happy.

      @holden93

I'd take the nexus 9 anyday over the tab s.

Those HP slate x2 64gb that were around this price with tegra 4, keyboard and better screen was a better deal.

At this price I'd risk buying one of the chinese tabs. :)

for 299 this is horrible, even for 180 its not that great.

    • $180 would be an acceptable price for the S-pen model, maybe

    • What would you buy for $299 (rrp)? $180 for this is ridiculous considering the alternative is a Tab 7 Lite for $179.

      • Grab other tablets from Asus or anyone else. Samsung is not exactly a decent company when it comes to software, and their budget tablets are usually worse. Tab S 8 inch model probably is at around $299.

Don't buy A series from Samsung you'll regret. Period

Please explain more to us who don't know much with the myriad range of tablets out there.

The performance is snappy, even when you do Multi Window (so two apps at once).

…but if you're going to do reading on it (web browsing, books), you will regret it. Screen resolution is ass.

  • i was looking for a decent tablet. after reading all the comments, probably going to look at something else. any recommendations? a tablet around $200 mark.

I'm rocking a lg g pad 8.3 gpe from expansys which I got for 250 ish like a year ago since I prefer Android. If Android, highly recommend the GPad. If not, I'd definitely go for ipads for obvious reasons (better battery life, better standby, but slightly lesser functionality)

    • Chuwi Hi8 if poor speaker quality and 4-5 hour battery life isn't of concern.

ASUS MemoPad fits the price range. MemoPad 8 was on sale for $199 awhile ago. Lightest tablet on the market

  • Ew 1024 x 768…
On 4" maybe ok, not 8".

  • Low res in 2015 is totally unacceptable, meanwhile ultra high res+overpriced flagship devices are very uncool!

  • What ever happened to the nexus 7? Why is that not around anymore?

    • +1

      google has discontinued the N7-2

why are samsung trying to sell a 1,024 x 768 tablet in 2015

this thing is seriously a $69 tablet at best

  • Can anyone suggest a good budget 9.7" tablet with FHD, 32GB/2GB quad core min?

    • If looking for Chinese made ones then go to tinydeal.com or banggood.com. I bought mine from there and it was $200 well spent. If you are looking for branded tablets then they don't have any.

Have a look at the Teclast X98 Air. That's probably what I'd get if my current tab died

  • I was looking to get an iPod to hook up to a Bluetooth speaker but for $250+ I thought it's best to get a tablet. Would this be a good alternative? Music will be 95% of the use.

Anyone got suggestions for a 8"ish Android tablet with resolution of 1920x1080/1200 or higher, good viewing angles, Bluetooth and has GPS?

A lot of these Chinese ones don't have GPS.

Looking for a car tablet. Using my Nvidia Shield at the moment but it's an expensive car tablet and higher cost to lose if it gets stolen

    • Asus Zenpad S. 8 inches, 2048 x 1536 , GPS

It's supposed to be $200 US.. if anyone has seen it for a good price shipped to Aus that would be great.

    How is this a deal??

    This is way better.

    • How does this compare to other tablets please? New to this trying to get away from iPads

      • +1

…If you've enough money to spend on an iPad, just go for a Galaxy Tab S 10.5, or a Galaxy Tab S 8.4.

        • Thank you

        • @jabbairc: or the new tab S2

        • @Oversimplified: Thank you for that, considering how expensive the Tab S is, waiting for S2 might be worthwhile, when is it coming out?

        • @jabbairc: It has come out in Korea and other places, so I am assuming soon.

        • @Oversimplified: Legend thank you, assume to be similar prices too like iPad etc.

        • @jabbairc: Probably less, I am not too sure though. Heard good things about the optimisation on it (compared to Tab S 10.5 LTE Korean version, which uses same SoC), though not too sure how much of that is a hype. That said, it definitely has a better SoC than Tab S1.

  • You can get it for free if you subscribe to the Australian. Ends up costing around the price of buying the tablet on its own, but you get the paper for free. Whichever way you want to look at it.

    I don't think it's a good tablet and I don't read the Australian so I didn't bother.

i use toilet paper, what other use would there be for that newspaper?

      • You could also use it to wrap meat/fish with it I guess. Or you could use it to asphyxiate someone, if you're into that kind of thing.

        • Is that you Bubby???
