That depends… now that you have to pay for PSN+ to play online, you may end up storing all those free games each month.
Obviously it's easy enough to delete them when you've finished playing them or want more space, but I'm finding I'm storing a lot more games on the HDD with this generation compared to last gen.
Install files mean you will need 1TB for the PS4's lifecycle. My 500gb is not enough and I never buy digital games. Games like Assassins Creed Unity, CODAW and GTA V take up 40-50gb to install on the system.
so basically don't bother buying a 500gb?
If your after the console only, go with the cheapest and install a 2TB drive, it will leave you with about 1.77TB of space, if your after the games then I'd still upgrade

NO. I mean I don't buy the digital copies. I own GTA V physical disc, and why it needs 50+ GB of space on my PS4. Who the f* knows..
@krazed15: I believe it might be to maintain the same performance levels across devices. Loading times from a disc might be slower than direct from HDD. If everyone runs from HDD they all get the same performance.
@CyberGenesys: I agree. bUt wat they should've done was give us an option to either load it directly from the disc or install it on the HDD then run. That would've been better.
I can't believe that 1TB is considered "large" by non-streaming multimedia device standards like XB1 & PS4. On PC you can throw in any 3.5" HDD (or many of them) and nobody even bothers with 1TB capacities anymore, 3TB is the minimum for a HDD used for multimedia storage.

The better deal is to wait, and just get Battlefront when it comes out in a bundle, likely with another game, for $399 - $498, depending on Christmas's closeness.

The Limited Edition Star Wars Battlefront PS4 Bundle will include a custom 500GB limited edition PS4 system (CUH-1200 series) and DUALSHOCK 4 Wireless Controller inspired by Darth VaderAh nice find. That is a 1TB model too. I am not getting Battlefront (I'm not into online gaming, although visually that game really looks sweet).
I wonder about the Metal Gear Solid one though. I am still dithering about getting that one…

I've talked myself out of the MGS console. The console looks nice, and the reviews of the game sound great but I was watching gameplay videos and seeing snake airlifting downed enemies with balloons. Airlifting them in full view of other enemies he was sneaking up on and no-one notices. It might sound silly but that really put me off.

:) Yeah that's how I feel. That price is just a good price for the game plus normal price for the console.
It is 500GB. Just not a 1TB model. But yes it is a CUH-1200 series. a 2TB drive replacement would cost about $125 at the moment

Limited consoles in general are scarce once gone. Even now Aus scalpers are listing that console on ebay for over $800… Trying to fleece the unwary.
At least it isn't a ridiculous price though. I mean if there wasn't a 20% off at ebay it would be the standard price for a console, plus a goodish price for the game.
Plus you could probably trade in stuff to get credit if you wanted at eb.

If it was that PS 20th Anniversary console, there'd be no question - I'd have ordered it the day I saw it. This one looks sweet, and is the new model, but I'm honestly turned off the MGS game after seeing the gameplay. Those idiotic balloons and the enemies oblivious of their screaming team mates being airlifted by a balloon in full view of them….

Again, I don't buy for the game, more for its aesthetic ..Might even buy pc ver of MGS..found it easier to aim just like RE games

Heh. I'm an old time gamer, since the 70s (had a pong console!), and have had all PS consoles and handhelds since the original Playstation (well, I don't have a PS4 yet), so it would have had a lot of sentimental value to me. Damn sony and their release of it…
The original Playstion to me was when gaming really started getting real. RE2. 3D, proper audio, not that beepy midi s##t…. So a lot of sentimental value

Some original PlayStation 3 consoles couldn't play the latest PlayStation 3 games. I read it was due to overheating.
Possibly replacing thermal paste would have fixed it, but I'd choose the later manufactured revision that generated less heat, just as a precaution.

I think the BigW offer that starts this Thursday is a better deal, money wise.
It really depends on what you're after.
The BigW bundle is $60 more, but includes a 500GB PS4 which at the moment costs $40 less than the 1TB. Effectively making it $100 for Batman Arkham Knight, GoW 3, DriveClub andNeed For Speed 7Fast and Furious 7.
So as long as you want the games and movie, and you're not fussed about upgrading the HDD in your PS4, then yes it's a better deal.If you are concerned with upgrading the HDD it will cost you between $80 and $100. Then you'll have to see if you have another use for the 500GB or how much you can sell it for.

Changing the hard drive to 2TB will cost a little over $100 (Dick Smith had a recent promo on it) so for $600~, one can get:
- PS4 2TB
- 3 Games
- Fast & Furious 7 Bluray
- And a 500GB Hard Drive
And it's pretty easy to upgrade the PS4's HDD. :)
