      • Full terms and conditions

I hope I have answered your question :)

      • thanks mate

      • What do we put under retailer location??

        • The store's suburb where you picked up the camera.

        • I choose to have it delivered tho. Just called Canon, lady said it should be fine to just the postcode of the main Dicksmith shop? Who knows, hope it works out. Maybe there will be a postcode on the receipt in the box or something.

  • It is a good one.

  • And if you dont want the lens, you can get body only for $15,- more

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/CANON-EOS-1200D-Body-/26172000318…

    • Yeah I saw that and was wondering what was going on. I think this camera would be a great entry level in DSLR and it has received relatively good reviews online too :)

      • Hi OP,

Just wondering, will I get camera along with lens with this deal?
The ebay page says "Canon EOS 1200D Digital SLR Single Lens Kit"
        I am confused.

        • Yep you will. This deal is actually cheaper than just the camera body also available on Dse eBay.

  • I thought buying it but this bastard from DigitalRev TV, Kai, shat on it and put me off from buying one:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ik1OiWOQ13M

    • Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Although I have read mainly positive reviews, this might just be an outlier :)

    • +1

I've been watching DigitalRev ever since I missed out on that Sony A6000 deal. Kai is bloody funny, love their stuff.

    • I watched Kai a lot. Didn't find this video till now. Hmmm. I might reconsider.

      • +2

Yeah I think the difference is this camera was priced at double the price that it is now. For a beginner just getting into DSLR, it would be fine but for seasoned DSLR users, it's probably worth spending a bit more.

I would just be happy for one person to buy this and stop using their iPad camera :)

        • I agree. For a beginner (which I am by the way), there are a lot of recommendations both on the comments section of that YouTube video, as well as on others, that the 1200D is a good entry level for a DSLR camera. It's just that I am one of those people who end up regretting after they make a purchase & then come across some negative reviews about the product they bought. But as I said above, lots of people bought it and said they liked it a lot so it depends on the buyer and their level of photography knowledge, I think.

        • +4

@AussieDaddy: Yeah its better to read the negative reviews in general for any product. It's better to know the negatives over the positives before you buy it. I just think it will be hard to find a comparable DSLR for this price in Australia hence why I posted it as a deal :)

        • @ShamelessBargains: Good points. Thanks.

        • Never start with a crippled camera that won't grow with you.

        • it is not all about camera. eco system is what matters.
          Canon is a good one.

    • You need to take price into consideration. Also whenever Kai reviews entry level stuff, he always expects enthusiast/pro features on it because that's what he personally prefers. His reviews are biased and should only be watched for entertainment purposes.

      • You're right, that is what I noticed too when he's reviewing basic, cheaper cameras. I am still considering to buy this (it's bloody cheap and hard to resist) for my first DSLR camera, though a 100D deal in the next couple of days would be better. :)

    • He craps on a lot of stuff being too harsh a majority of the time - I prefer Blunty's vids (completely different opinions regarding Pentax Q for example)

    • Kai is an idiot. Tries to be funny but he just comes off as a complete tool.

      • -1

complete tool <- or you mean "complete fool." or "complete stool."…lol.

    • its good for entry level, upgrade to a good lens like the tamron 17-50 and sell the kit lens on gumtree for 100.
if you grow out of it, you can sell it on gumtree and not make a big loss.

  • Thanks OP!

  • +1

    mirrorless ftw

  • I wish one of the stores participating in the 20% offer was stocking the Canon 760D.

    • +1
      • Thanks heaps. I did look earlier in the week and didn't find one.

I was looking for body only but with 20% ($280), plus $100 Canon rebate it works out to the 18-135mm lense being basically free.

Wife is going to be very happy. My credit card less so.

  • Great deal, thanks OP.

  • Didnt follow the OZB way of "buy first and think later" on the EOS M kit for $180.

My understanding is that this is one gen behind with sensor tech compared to EOS M, but better battery and has OFV?

Now regretting not buying the EOS M. Anyone know of a good deal on 100D or Sony A7 in Aus?

    • same sensor used by canon 550d, 600d, 650d, 60d, 100d, eosm1, eosm2, 1200d

  • Would strongly advising holding out for a 600D over a 1200D. Even the older 550D performed better than the 1200D.

    • +1

I got the 550D, awesome camera made in Japan.

I believe the 1000D, 1200D series and anything after 600D are all made in China.

Can someone confirm which range or year Canon switched to China manufacturing.

I'm not a fan of China made DSLR

      • Good point but unfortunately there is no much choice now (for these series)

      • Canon still make their full lineup in Japan - however - it's the Kiss lineup that are produced in Japan rather than the EOS models you see here.

i.e. Kiss X5 is the Japanese model of the 600D. Canon Kiss X70 is the Japanese model of the 1200D (would still advise against purchasing it regardless).

      • You have no control over where it is made. You have control over wether you buy a fully featured DSLR or a crippled one.

  • Sorry for my ignorance, is this deal only for the single lens kit or camera.
Will I get camera along with lens with this deal?
    I am confused.

    • You will get the camera body and the single lens kit included :)

    • Its single lens kit, not body only.

  • Awesome. Will go ahead and buy one.
Thanks a lot for posting the deal and replying so quickly to my question..

    • All good, it's the best entry level DSLR at this price point :)

  • I have been using the 1000D for 5 years now. Its great with the 50mm, but pales compared to what is possible with ff's like 5D.
Will spend ~1k this month on a mirrorless camera Or <400 for a canon with good video function.

    Any suggestions?

    • Depends what you want to do with it! Mirror less is great for Astro work, but you still need a fast lens to make that happen effectively.

      Canon is brilliant because Canon.

      Also, I have a Canon bias :)

If you are ready to upgrade your canon, I would be looking more at a 7D or 70D, which are around the 1K mark :)

      • I take photos with it. Don't care about all the fancy features. My 7 year old Canon 1000D and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge take clear pictures.

    • 700D

  • I'm a pro photographer, and I use a 5D MK III. Wish I could take it around the world with me, but I don't want to fork out travel insurance for 10K of kit.

Considering buying this to travel with instead of a point and shoot that will drive me bonkers.

I fear it might be too much of a downgrade (considering aperture and shutter controls on the 1000D were a nightmare to change in a heartbeat)….that price though…

Any thoughts? Or should I just go for it?

    • +2

Seems most cameras will be a step down from 5D MK III. It would make a good backup camera though and I'm sure it will get the job done well.

Then again buy now, think later is the Ozbargain motto :)

      • +3

I definitely wouldn't use a 1200D as a backup camera for a job…I'm thinking more of the 'its better than a point and shoot as a throwaway camera'

        • +3

Yeah pretty sure it's better than an iPad camera too :)

        • @ShamelessBargains: Ahh yes, but will I look as stupid holding this as I would an ipad?? :)

        • Why not look for a second hand 550D?

      • Sony a6000,or fuji xt10, or Panasonic gx8 perhaps? The biggest issue though will be battery life compared to ur dslr. U can also get metabones lens adapters that work well with the canon lenses and sony a6000, since they have af.

        • +1

          and tripple price

        • @lovbargain:

hah yeah true that, triple the price of the deal, but 1/10th the price of his current setup.
At least he'd be happier with the picture quality and the control :)

    • RX100 MKIII or IV. Has the performance of an entry level DLSR in a point and shoot package.

    • Personally i would buy a 70D on special. At least then you get 2 dials for controlling aperture and exposure and wouldn't drive yourself nuts in M mode.

I think the lowest model that has dual dials for this is the 760d?

      • +1

The advantage of the 760D is that it is lighter than the 70D which for travelling is a significant advantage.

    • +1

If you're the pro, shouldn't we be asking you for advice? ;)

After using a 5D Mk iii, I suspect the dark little APS-C viewfinder with kit lens would drive you crazy. But, you should know your own needs best.

Depending what you want to take photos of during your trip, I'd just take the 5d Mk iii with you. Or, look for a second hand mk ii or a 6D which could serve as a decent back-up?

      • +3

Ask away!! I'm so happy to hand out advice, but even happier to receive it.

I'm a pro, yes, I get paid for my work. But I'm not a know it all…knowledge is power, and I learn from many people, every day (even about cameras!!)

  • Is this a good camera to go travelling? Is it big? I currently only use my iphone 6 plus as it's very convenient….

  • ok thanks. Are the pictures coming out of this DSLR 100% better than iphone 6 plus?

  • how much will the 760d set me back on special? :)

    • Canon 760D is $1000 for just body. Ted's have an eBay deal for $1400 with 18-135mm lense.

      Currently $100 rebate from Canon.

  • Thanks for that. Only thing I am worried about is portability….

    • I think that's the only trade off though. Will be worth it for the quality photos you will take :)

  • 760D is too much money… I'm really only looking to spend <$300

    • For under $300 for a DSLR, you are looking at this camera, some knock off from Kmart/Big W or a used DSLR from Gumtree or eBay

  • +1

Thanks mate - picked one up. I've played with the idea of getting a DDLR for a while but didn't want to spend over $1k on something I wasn't going to use/learn to use. Now I can figure out if I like it, and if so, will upgrade in the future. Cheers.

    • +1

Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking do. Will probably get hooked and be spending thousands on new lenses soon haha

  • Hi guys How are you? I am not into photography and stuffs but one of my mate have Nikon D3200 and it did take good pictures is this better than Nikon D3200 because I was thinking of getting Nikon but this seems like a great deal. Thanks

  • +1
    • -1

The D3300 is still a better buy imo for $480 unless you want a touchscreen

      http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon-EOS-700D-vs-Nikon-D3300

    • how are you getting $575 though?

      $899 less 20% = $719.20
      $719.20 less $100 cashback = $619.20

Even if you take into consideration the 2.5% cashrewards, that's an extra $22.48 off

      still not $575

TRS ofc will make it even cheaper than $575 though

    • cheaper at ted's too

  • -1

When you post the claim, it asks for the name of the retailer and the location. What do i put on there?

    • Dick Smith as retailer and location as the store you picked it up from :)

      • -1

Yes, I know, but I ordered in on ebay and chose home delivery!

        • +1

Camera will still be sent from a DSE store. Should be on the receipt when you receive it :)

        • Oh awesome, I was worried I'd miss out on the cash back. Can't wait to get my $75 back and start taking some photos hahah

  • Jump on this or the Nikon D33000 for $430 after 20% off and cashback? Missed out on the Bing Lee deal for $390.

    • +1

      D33000?! I think you mean D3300 :P

Nikon has AF (autofocus), better detail, better ISO for night shooting, more MP, higher res screen and a built in cleaning sensor to remove dust particles which can be costly. Basically its worth it imo for a little bit extra but if you want a basic DSLR the 1200D is decent for the price

      • Thanks for the correction mate. Yeah I've done a bit of research and the D3300 is generally regarded as the best in its class. But at this price the 1200D does look very tempting. Probably will pay the bit extra and get the D3300.

        • If you ever tried to get your sensor cleaned by a professional it'd cost around $50 so the D3300 could pay for itself over time. The 3300D also has more grip areas whereas the 1200D is mostly shiny plastic

I'm also interested in the 1200D too because of the pricetag, had a Pentax KX before but apart from MP it wouldn't be an upgrade and I'd most likely demand higher PQ over time to divert from my mobile

  • Can you claim both cashrewards and shopandmint and if so how to do that.

    • No only one cash back account can be used unfortunately. Shopandmint has a $50 limit to redeem too.
