Thanks Olokun. Booked 2x return tickets to GC for $126 with Jetstar pricebeat :)

Woah… its like you actually want to get on a plane and end up at your destination!

    • That's cheap, TA. Do you also get to choose a seat or what?

      • +1

Didn't you know that TA always rides shotgun in the jump seat

      • +8

Seat allocation is free 24hrs before the flight. Just go on line and pick them. Best thing is there's no CC fees either with pricebeat. Win win :)

        • I HAD NO IDEA OF THIS ^ thank you!

        • @woolfenstein: Not sure if you're response is re seat allocation or CC fees. CC fees I'm 100% about. Re the seat allocation, this is what the CSR told me on the phone. You get to choose from whatever hasn't been allocated. She better be right!

        • @tightarse: Seat allocation! Yes, may the CSR always know their shtuff.

        • +3

@woolfenstein: Worst case my wife and I will be separated for 2 hours. Not a terrible thing I suppose :)

        • @tightarse: Hmm.. Seat Allocation and Seat Selection are 2 different monsters. :) Based on experience, they do allocate you seats 24 hours before your flight but you can't change them without paying a fee.

        • Can you choose an exit row seat for free 24 hours before checkin or do they still slug you the $35?

I am flying Tiger tomorrow night and have already paid the $6 fee for my isle seat in row 9 but I'm having 2nd thoughts on paying the fee again next time because last year we flew with Tiger without choosing our seats and because we were one of the first to check in we ended up in a Row 1 exit seat for free.

    • Is it weekend ? I am looking for it :)

      • +1

        No, 7 nights. Wed-Wed.

        • Thats true. I cant find weekend :(. Thanks for reply

    • Thanks for the tip on Jetstar price beat. $90 for 2 return to Melbourne from Adelaide next year, great deal!

    • +1

Oh, forgot to price match with Jetstar but I don't regret much. Thump up to Tiger for cheap fares. I've booked return Syd - Cairns for 6 people, $660 all up March next year :))

  • $76 return to Hobart, two people for a weekend. Sweet deal.

  • Buts its not weekend price. You have to travel weekdays

    • Can sometimes do Saturday departure, Monday return. :)

I decided to check the Tigerair specials page during lunch, then saw this deal. Then wanted to post here but you guys are too quick! Pretty epic, booked myself and partner to six cities in a week and a half!

This time it's pretty good because the seats don't seem to be limited to Tuesdays/Wednesdays.

Did you price beat with Jetstar?

      • nah, I should have, but I didn't. I've had this trip planned for a while and as soon as I saw it I just booked straightaway… For non-amazingly cheap flights I would price beat though.

Also sometimes Jetstar's website doesn't allow to let me get through to the chat page despite the flights are within 1 hour.

        I just wish Tiger had adelaide-perth or brisbane-perth :P

        • Hope your not flying connected flights :S

        • @smpantsonfire: will take out travel insurance in case of any cancellations :P

  • So all in the year 2016?

  • Hey guys excuse my OzB ignorance but how would i go about doing the jetstar pricebeat? is this done online or over the phone?

    • +1

Either. Fastest way is over the phone.

      • aw man, thanks for that. I'll use the phone next time. Does it take long to get through to a rep?

I hate the website chat thing. it's so fiddly and half the time it doesn't work.

        • +1

I got through right away. Best to have your Tiger fares & dates at the ready. Great customer service.

        • @tightarse: Which number do you use? I used to use 1300 369 516 with minimal wait, but approx a year ago I tried and was on automated hold for an hour before I gave up.

I think this was when the online chat just came out. When I asked the rep about it via online chat they said you can't use phone anymore have to use chat…

  • $29 each way SYD-MEL is fantastic. Was planning a trip anyway to hit the Warhol/Weiwei exhibit at the NGV.

  • Did the same using the Jetstar live chat, took all of 10 minutes to do, quick, very friendly no hassles, and no booking fees and no credit card surcharge is a great bonus

  • +1

Just did a price beat. It took a painful 36 minutes just to save $11.60. I had an annoyingly slow booking agent. Makes me wonder if they chat to multiple people at the same time.

    • Now that OZB community had their dinner and are in for booking a flight, they are.

    • Me to but I saved 17$

    • +1

There are two reasons to price beat with Jetstar:
      1. You don't pay credit card fees. For those with free travel insurance on their credit cards, it's a significant saving.
      2. You get to fly (arguably) a slightly better airline. Jetstar has a lot more flights every day - so they should be able to recover better from, say, one plane being grounded for technical reasons.

    • If you're someone who doesn't have an Au issued Debit MasterCard you're saving 10% + the fixed $25 CC fee for tiger too.

      • Can use 28 degrees card in which a true OZBargainer's should have. =p

        • no needs to be a debit mastercard for no fees not a credit card…

It kills me every time. I have every other card other than a damn mastercard debit…

        • +2

@wako: mebank has a mastercard debit with no monthly fees.

        • @wako: do you have a qantas frequent flyer membership? The membership card doubles up as a debit mastercard

        • @rd: Wait, what?

        • @rd:

Yeh I do, But havent set up yet. Might be a good idea:)

TigerAir - When you positively, absolutely have to get dicked around before your flight

  • Cool thanks. Going to Brissy to see the fam! I did Jetstar price beat for the first time. Not so much to save the 10% but because my experiences of Jetstar have been mediocre-to-decent and my experiences of Tiger have been uniformly awful. Was impressed by how easy and pleasant an experience the booking was.

  • Did a pricebeat last night with Jetstar, took a painful 50 mins and 37 secs over the phone. Was connected to the opeartor fairly soon but she kept putting me on hold for long periods.

Also for those who are wondering, the operator told me that if you do a pricebeat they automatically waive the credit card fees, saving you the hassle of using the poli thing

    • Jetstar is the best for paying - you can use bank transfer. It means you can book a cheap fare without paying, and effectively have a 24 hour cool off period (money has to hit their account by day +3).

    • Go to http://www.jetstar.com/au/en/what-we-offer/our-guarantees/pr… and do it online next time.

      Much much faster.

      • +1

there was a 32 minute wait for the chat to start. All the ozbargainers were busy price beating

        • Lady asked me how my day was, I asked her, then told her I knew it was busy with tigers sale. Yep

  • Damm, I booked adl-mel, adl- syd and adl-bne for around $280 as I got slugged $30 call centre fee as I booked some flights on the same day (was meant to be $100 change fee but talked my way out of it as had just booked the flights, tiger are becoming increasingly better on the Customer service front).

So $250 with no added fee. If I had read this I would have saved $90 in booking fees with the JQ price beat which would have been $160. Lesson learnt.

Great fares for anyone wanting to check out the Adelaide Fringe over Feb & March.

    • nice trips… last time they had the $20 sale I booked bne-adl, bne-cns and bne-syd :P stayed one night in each city every week. it was great to see different cities :)

Travelling to Adelaide is proof that one can indeed travel backwards in time.

        • LOL. I thought it would've been the other way around. I felt they were more progressive in many ways compared to Brisbane, maybe because it was my first time visiting. No shopping bags, beverage container recycling, bike lanes everywhere, blocky city layout, people speak in a posher accent etc. (though these have got more to do with SA than the city). But each to their own I suppose. The weather sucks and they're stuck on a +30 minute timezone (with DST they're half an hour ahead of Brisbane, wtf?).

I have a few mates from Adelaide living in Brisbane now; they go back to visit occasionally but they wouldn't move back.

        • @iSamurai: They may be progressive, but the city feels like a big country town. Stuff closes early, not much going on, etc. Brisbane is at least modernising, catching up with Sydney and Melbourne.

        • There is a dude who cruises around Adelaide in a DeLorean so you might be on point. He even has the personalised plates "McFly". Any way Adelaide has free Ben & Jerrys today so plenty to do.

        • @iSamurai: The shopping bags thing is phased out now I think but we have to pay for the recyclable ones. The City design is top class and all surrounded by parklands, Col Light got that one spot on. The accent is different they say due to climate and we were settled by free settlers and not the general English Riff Raff. You cant knock the weather in SA, we actually experience all 4 seasons accurately, the time zone makes no difference to the day at all. Adelaide is a great place to raise a family but not much more. Come check it out in Fringe time, the city goes off.

  • Just booked tix to Sydney price beat Jetstar, great value
