Kogan - $189 (AU Stock) Lexar 512GB Professional Workflow USB 3.0 Portable SSD Free Shipping

100

Seems like quite a good price for this portable SSD from Lexar. Cheapest I could find by far, and Australian stock too.

You can use it standalone (it connects via the included USB 3.0 Cable). It doesn't require a external power supply.

Really quite good for the price but this isn't sold as a drive to install Windows on or anything similar, and the review benchmarks prove that. Transferring media across to it seems great however.

450 read and 250 write seem decent enough. Im seriously considering this to edit videos off. It will beat the pants off my 3tb 3.5" disk and anything else at the $189 pricepoint

What other 512gb ssd can I buy for $189?

Be cautious buying anything from Kogan they don't honour their warranty obligations.
Search and read the following article in Ozbargain forums

Kogan in Court for Refusing Warranty - Anyone Else Having Issues?

It took 5 months and a court order to get a refund.

    • Because of QCAT as much as Kogan it seems and also I have to say it seems like you were doing this on principle as much as anything when you could have just gone to the manufacturer.

      edit: thread for reference: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/207477

      • The storefront takes their markup. Their obligation to earn that is to provide 12 months easy returns or repair.

We should just give them our money and let them off?

Plus, I suspect kogans warranty is in relation to grey imports. If they choose that business model, it's their problem because it was their choice to offer those sales

        • Why the neg?

Where is this obligation you speak of? Technically your sales contract is with the seller anyway if you want to go all legal on them.

Why bother with them as a middle man if you want it repaired when it will go back to the manufacturer anyway? Like I said arguing for the sake of principle. You take your chances with Kogan. If you choose them as your supplier then it's your choice.

Also to the originator of this, QCAT is not a court.

          @Shonky:

Wasn't my neg. The seller (kogan) offers one year warranty. That's the contract.

        • @Shonky: Wow, you seem to be an expert on everything Shonky wish I could be that knowledgeable. Buy something from Kogan and let us all know how you go. Retailers like Kogan, Megabuy, Big Warehouse Spares are all dodgy, people know it but they just need to be reminded. Some people use them for the first time and get stung. Some get a good run for a while and get stung.

If I buy from Kogan and it's a no name import do I go to the manufacturer in China. Where's Nikon, do I start to research the location of every manufacturer in the country just in case I need to return items to them that I bought through Kogan. Kogan are dodgy it's as simply as that. You don't even need to start talking about who to take it back to or what the process should be or whether they should honour their obligations as a retailer, it's that they are dodgy and that what people like you need to know so you know what your dealing with if you buy from them.

QCAT aren't anything but grossly incompetent doesn't matter if they are a court or not.

This page is for people considering buying from Kogan and other dodgy retailer like Megabuy and Big warehouse spare so they hopefully don't get stung and go through grief. It is the buyers hard earned money that's been paid in good faith after all.

        • @WiseUp:
Wow yourself. I'm not an expert just stating the facts.

When you purchase from Kogan you are purchasing from an overseas supplier like Kogan HK hence you are not paying GST for one. That's part of the reason they are cheaper than a local supplier. I presume it's somewhat of a grey area regarding a shopfront representing that they are in Australia, but selling from overseas. I'd bet there's something in Kogan's terms that covers that.

My point is that trying to claim through Kogan when you could go straight to the manufacturer is just adding a middle layer of difficulty.

And yes QCAT is not a court so when you try and make a grand statement, "Kogan in court" you are misrepresenting the severity of things.

  • How can this be aus stock? I thought Kogan were grey importers?

    • -2

plenty of Kogan's stuff is Australian stock, shipped from Aus

      • +1

just because its shipped from australia doesnt mean australian stock.
Kogan are big enough now that they pre ship things to australia so you can get it quicker. However the items are still grey imported from overseas.

Clearly says on the link this is Australian stock that includes 2 year warranty from Lexar in Australia.

  • Great price and nice design. Could be a nice alternative to portable HDD

US$134.95 for 512GB from Amazon but that probably works out at around $200 Aus with shipping
