ASUS Vivotab Note 8" Windows 64GB Tablet $249 (Plus $9.99 P/H) @ COTD

50

This is for Model no. M80TA-DL004H.
- Intel Atom Z3740 Quad-Core, 1.86 GHz
- 8" LED Backlight WXGA (1280x800) IPS Display
- Wacom Digitizer & Stylus
- Storage: 64 GB eMMC (with external microSD card support up to 64GB)
- Memory: 2GB DDR3 SDRAM
- 1x microUSB 2.0 Port
- Windows 8.1 32-bit (Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013 version)
- 1.26 MP Front Camera ( 720p Video Recording )
- 5 MP Rear Camera

I was waiting for the Asus ZenPad S 8.0 (Z580CA) to drop, but with the aussie dollar plummeting, & no word on local stock, the Vivo Tab caught my eye. Good bye Android, hello Windows (for now).

Though not the newest tech, I think this is a pretty good deal? Definitely not slim & light. Not the fastest processor (Atom quad core, 1.86GHz, or is it 1.33GHz), only 2GB RAM, poor screen resolution (1280x800) & not great cameras. But a 64GB full Windows tablet (with Office included), sporting a wacom digitizer (so you can draw & take notes), for $250, I think that's alright?

It might be good deal based on only 64GB full Windows tablet (with Office included), but ASUS had bad reputation of products(especially tablets) going back for repairs. ASUS is one of the top brand with refurbished products sold.

Not a deal for me when I can get the likes of a chuwi vi8 for half that price.

Chuwi doesn't have a wacom digitiser.

      • yep, there's not many tabs that do. Particularly in the 8" size range. Can only find the Dell Venue 8 Pro, which has the same processor, same RAM, smaller (32GB SSD), & the stylus is not included (it's expensive). No doubt the Dell would be more expensive too, if you could find it.

Many people prefer Wacom stylus over other stylus technology despite its flaws.

I have the Acer Iconia W510 bought a couple of years ago (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/102650) I now find it crawls especially using Windows 10. How do these newer Atom predecessors compare?

    • Supposed to be alright for most things, except video editing (which I'm going to attempt), & resource hungry games. This won't be nearly as quick as the Asus Memo Tab I mentioned above, which has 4GB RAM & a newer faster (2.33GHz) quad core Atom processor.

    • I run the el cheapo unisurf 7" as media center permanently plugged to my tv @1080P. The chip handles most things quite well. Takes a bit longer to load with heavy flash-plagued web pages but most of the time quite painless. And the 3740 is another step up from my Unisurf's 3735

I found Windows 10 to run far better on the M80TA than Windows 8 ever did. Just make sure you do a fresh install of Windows 10 instead of the in place upgrade.

I have this tablet (still running Win8) from a previous CotD deal, and I use it with Manga Studio for drawing/painting. It's okay for that, but it is rubbish for: web browsing, playing games, … pretty much anything else I've tried except drawing and writing. It's a good digital notepad with OneNote (what I originally got it for!).

I use this pretty much every day for drawing and painting, for the last 2-3 months, and it's pretty good, much better than a capacitive stylus tablet.

The power switch hardware is really rubbish (most reviews note this) and it takes me 2-3 presses every time to get it to wake up, and sometimes it randomly interprets a short press as a long press and asks me if I want to shut down.

Oh, and put aside a good half-day to patch Windows and clean out Asus junk :).
