I'd rather get MONSTER cables and have really super high proper definition. ;)

are you being serious or joking? paying such exorbitant money for just cables seems crazy to me.

      • Just joking (thought the wink would give it away but it looks like a smile) :)

    3 Metre: $6.95
    5 Metre: $9.95

Are great prices. 2m is average an price.

  • I had something similar to one of these cables and it beats the crappy one that a friend gave me from EzyHD and is what, a quarter of the price??

  • 5m cable is really good for the price. Thanks

  • thanks to who ever put the shipping the in title i forgot haha.

  • msy sells the 2m for $5, 3m for $8 and 5m for $10 and 10m for $17. Not sure about the quality but.

  • whats msy? havent heard of them.

      lol, fail.
      It's a computer store ..

      • "lol, fail." LOL :)

      • rayrei u git. haha i just bough bcs for the teg

  • A lof of cheap HDMI cable prices at the moment.

    2 metre
    $9.95 from JayCar (or 4 for $25)
    $8.95 from Jammel
    $7.90 from COTD (or 2 for $14)

Can someone tell me, is there any quality loss if the cable is longer? What about a 20m cable, will there be quality loss, or delay?

    • Quality loss … there's no gradual loss with HDMI. It's digital; so either it's perfect quality, or you get horrible noise everywhere.

Length is important. The longer the cable, the better quality it has to be. For anything more than 5m, it's a bit of a gamble if you get a cheap cable. For 2 or 3 metre cables, get 'em as cheap as you can. They should work fine.

I bought a 5m cable from MSY, about 2 years ago, and it's still performing faultlessly at 1080p with my PS3.

For a 20m cable, you'll have to pay a high amount to get the quality needed for 1080p. Cheap cables will not cut it for that length, except maybe at a lower signal quality. 1080i and 720p only needs half the bandwidth, and may work where 1080p fails.

I bought one of these from a recent sale on COTD for $4.95, they do the job fine for me, I can't tell the difference between the $100 cable and this one.

In relation to the question about 20m, some people say the longer the cable the higher quality ones you will need, but I can't really say for sure as I never tried one this length.

  • at lengths less than 5m, any cable will do, including these. Just need to make sure they are at least 1.3b certified. For longer runs, say 10m+, you need high quality cables. I bought a cheapy 15m cable and it gave me endless grief. Picked up aanother 15m cable from ezyhd and it solved my problems and has been rock solid. The cable is run under my house and hasn't missed a beat.

I think stating the length of the cable in the title (or at least in the description) would be a good idea. As for the price, I don't think it's a bargain (more like a decent price) considering ebay.com.au HK sellers provide the same product at $5.40 - $8 delivered, but delivery time may be longer.

    EDIT

    The 2m and 3m aren't a big deal, but the 5m is a bargain.

I think most people would prefer getting a product shipped from Australia, from a reputable store for $7.90, rather than from a Hong Kong ebay seller for the same price or maybe 2 bob less.

      • I would rather get mine any time I want than only being able to purchase it 5 days a year and be an impulse buyer. Reputable? You have ebay's feedback which tells you that.

        • You can get one from Jammel for $9 delivered, or pick one up from JayCar for $10, or 4 for $25. There are other places too with similar price.
You can get yours (from HK ebay sellers) anytime you want? How about tomorrow? I don't think so. Wait a couple weeks.
Also, there is a time limit on leaving feedback on ebay. So if the cable fails or something happens, you can't leave neg feedback 3mths down the track. Most HK sellers i've seen on ebay have a fair few neg feedback anyway, but still get ~99% pos because of large volume.

          • @Josh81: You really don't seem to understand the point of the discussion. We are comparing cotd to ebay, don't bring in other sellers to divert the argument to your side, plus your jaycar sellers don't accept paypal and you have to pay by credit card, and that can cause foreseeable risk to some consumers. And yes, I am familiar with static ice, but most sellers charge shipping or you have to waste petrol in many circumstances. I'm not going to talk further about it, it feels like im discussing with a child.

            • @[Deactivated]: This isn't a discussion where you can arrogantly set/state the parameters.
I'm bringing in other dealers because i disagree with the value of the Hong Kong ebay deal being good based on cotd's cable's time restriction.

I'm pointing out to other potential buyers that once the cotd deal is over, there are still good alternatives out there. Alternatives which in my opinion are better than the HK ebay option.
And because of the various options i've listed, most people will be passing at least 1 of these stores in their weekly travels.

Anyway, each to their own. There's no point getting into a debate about online shopping versus store pickup, because it's a very individual choice based on home/work location, work hours, other commitments etc.

    4.95 + 2.95 post = 7.90
This is a good price but i just saw another seller that has it for 5.95 with free shipping australia wide. Just bought 2 and got a notification in minutes to say its been sent off. I guess its a good price for a 2m cable i think.

    • That's a great site, never heard of it. Thanks for the info. Cheers.

    • I saw someone mention this on another HDMI cable thread, but i couldn't find it on the site. Thanks.
Doesn't mention triple sheilding or anything, but i'm sure it's fine.
