keep in mind they'll still charge you a $20 refundanble "deposit" which they hold until you leave them.
(at least for me they do.. and i assume its the case for new customers too)

  • Hi, have you tried it, through to checkout? It's asking for payment at checkout!

    • From all the comments, doesn't look like the first month is free at all. So, will take the advice & stay away.

I suggest that fellow OzBargainers should read through a bit of these two links before making any decision.

Please negate any Four or Five star reviews - they are mostly from Ben the CEO of Vaya in an attempt to keep the average above the minimum rating of One Star.

Please read back from this latest page - page 60.

    • just signed up last month, haven't had any issues, same service as liveconnected. Customer service was fine through facebook messenger. the online support on their website a bit slow, other than that no issues.

Wait till your bills get messed up month after month after month without resolution. Vaya are just not worth the pain.

        • I've waited for my bills month after month after month with no need for resolution - nothing has ever gone wrong.

          @divineiniquity:

Think yourself damn fortunate.. They are am unethical company in my book… You spend hours on the phone dealing with incompetent staff to resolve obvious billing errors like being charged double service fee only for it to keep happening entry month… Don't get me started on there dirty tactics with data.

          @Bullion78:
          Incompetent staff? yes.
          Dirty tactics? No.
Bad ethics? Overall given the problems: yes.

But one thing I'd like to correct people on is you think Vaya jave a bad intention given the results, that is a totally subjective and naive conclusion to reach without understanding the circumstances of the business.

Vaya is a budget telco and are trying keep costs down on everything. This means potential errors in their billing system and also support stuff who don't get paid much. This is the reason why they have such cheap plans compared to telcos who don't have these problems (as much).

As such yes you can expect to have issues with them and I am personally quite lucky to not have to deal with this (at worst i "missed" a payment because they had a bug with their CC payment system, but a short email fixed this quickly). If you don't want to put with the risk of cheap systems and staff then Vaya isn't the telco for you - perhaps Telstra and its premium services are more suitable and cost effective.

I have a major issue with this dodgy company.
Not worth getting involved with them. In my experience you will go through a large a mount of frustration with billing errors and appalling customer service. They also randomly change deals.
    Just not worth the aggravation.

I highly agree, I've had a similar experience and then switched over to boost mobile within 2 months of using Vaya. Stay far far away from them.

Surprised this company is still around, highly unethical.

I mentioned this in another post a few days ago but i've also had SOO many problems with Vaya.
I used to be with Vaya, and so did my GF, brother and dad.

They stuffed up 3 of our 4 ports - 2 of them didn't have data for 2 weeks (had to go to TIO before they fixed it within 24 hours) and the other was stuck in port for ages, for which they blamed telstra.

We all ported away from Vaya after various billing issues (double billed was common, i was billed 10 times once in an error).

Never going back to Vaya no matter how cheap!

Vaya often do first month free anyway - it's not exactly a deal.

  • never go back to vaya again. get money from my credit card without my authorise. have to ask TIO to help in 4 months to get risk of them.

  • +1

On going deal that they've had going on since at least March, maybe even longer.

Be very careful with Vaya the parent company of Liveconnected.
I have had numerous billing issues with excess call & data charges whilst still within my plan limits.
Then they decided to add a $20 security deposit to all customers regardless of time with them, I had been with them for over 2 years & was charged.
After moving away from Vaya, it took approx 5 months & threats to go th o the TIO before the security deposit was refunded.
Refer to whirlpool forums to get other customer opinions.

  • We had no network or billing issues until we decided to leave them. Only reason we left was fear of liquidation due to the security deposit.
When we ported out though I had to fight for the security deposits and the pro rats for the rest of the billing cycle.
Ended up getting the security deposit but not the pro rata but I couldn't be stuffed fighting anymore, I'm sure that is their intent too.
    Won't be returning.

  • I'm with vaya for the last 3 months and I joined up with the same special back then.

Word warning guys when joining up, your billing period is the first of the month, not the day in the month you joined like other providers. So your data is prorata for the first month. I got screwed over thinking I had 1.5GB straight up until i got the bill. I should of read the T&C I guess.

Porting number took 24 hours after activation and nobody can call you for 10 hours. It took another 10 hours to get mobile data despite being able to recv and make calls.

After that billing and service experience has been fine so far. touchwood
