  • Appears to be limited to optus contract customers - from the FAQ:

Can I get Cash by Optus™ if I’m a prepaid Optus customer?

    A. No, Cash by Optus™ is currently only available to Optus customers who have a monthly mobile plan and who receive a monthly mobile plan bill.

  • Only for postpaid customers. Seems like a good deal though

  • It appears the app simply turns your phone into a virtual Visa PayWave card.

Optus have to post you a new SIM card containing a secure element used for storing the credit card details (free post, 1 week for delivery).

    You need:
    a) A compatible Android handset with NFC (see below)
    b) A post-paid Optus account
    c) Request a new SIM card.
    d) Install the app from the store.

The list of compatible handsets is here: https://smb.optus.com.au/opfiles/Shop/Consumer/Assets/PDFs/I…
It's basically all of the mainstream manufacturer's modern devices: pretty much anything from Samsung, HTC & Sony, but curiously only one older Motorola model.

    • I doubt the list is complete. My guess is that most of phones with NFS will work.

      edit: NFC, not NFS

      • Phones that can run Need For Speed (NFS) game should have NFC anyway.

        • 1+1 Two does not fit here.

      • Nope, I have the SIM in my Nexus 6, no workie.

        • Interesting. Nexus 6 works with the Commonwealth bank's tap'n'go NFC payment system.

      • There are plenty of phones that are theoretically compatible. But it would seem that some devices with the required hardware are not working, so it's not a sure thing.

The Optus page says that more handsets will be added to the list as they test and approve them. Perhaps it will only take a few tweaks to the app to make it more broadly compatible.
