300 TDK DVD-R Discs for $94 (around $15.67 Per 50 Discs) at Officeworks

143

This looks like a good deal at $15.67 per 50 spindle pack. Only issue is the 300 discs bulk purchase which may not suit all. Single pack of 50 is $17.95 each.*Not sure about the sale expiry date and have entered the end of this month.

MSY is selling 50-pack TDK DVD-R for $15 at the moment.

  • Or I could just walk down to Orange IT in Captiol Square in Central and get a pack of 100 DVD-R for $25…

  • I have seen this in my local OW also. They also got 3 DVD-RW (tdk) for 1$/each marked down, so grabbed that.

  • I got some from kmart for the same price

    the title is very cheeky
I would have to buy 300 disk just to have a small discount.
so AFTER buying 300 and recalculation, my per disc price would be about 32 cents.

average street price is 28 to 30cents per disc.
32 cents per disk is not a bargain, especially when you have to bulk buy.

  • I used to get MaxMax 50-pack DVD-R from D-Comp for $14. Now hard disks are cheap I don't bother burning discs anymore.

  • The standard price for the tdk 50 pack is $17.95. I dont reckon paying $15.67 is a good deal if youve got to buy 6 packs of them.

Also theres better deals on offer like some of the ones mentioned in this thread.

I am interested in buying the 3 packs of dvd-rw for $1. Not avail at my local ow as far as i can see. Milton Brisbane.

The problem with buying 300 discs is by the time I use any significant number of them, the price will have come down, negating any savings. But I suppose you need 300 discs right now, you could save a few bucks, but only a few bucks.

Heh, in fact, why not recommend the 50x24=1200 discs or the 50x96=4800 discs deals while you are at it. :P

  • I still like my stack of Sony's :-)

    • :P you and your DVDs :)

  • I guess TDK doesn't make good recordable media anymore.. For extra few dollar I prefer Verbatim. Managed to get OW matched price with MSY.. 50 pcs of DVDs for $20.. after matched price $19 =)

    • Yeah i am surprised to hear about the reports of poor write failure percentage. I always thought TDK were premium in the blank media market. They have always/often had the dearest prices, and it's the Verbatim that's usually the cheapest quality brand, then followed by Sony.

FYI, from my experience with 150+ DVD-RW's that i've used with a DVD recorder, i've found that in the past it was the Verbatim's that had less failure than the Sony's. So i stopped buying sony's, but recently i've been having several failures with the Verbatim. I don't know if it's the new crop in the Aqua cases, or it's the 4x speed discs that are the problem.

      • If you want premium media look for Taiyo Yuden discs. You won't find them on shelves but there are several mail order suppliers.

verbatim's quality is slowly going south…..
they stopped using japanse makes ages ago (ie they were actually taiyo yudens), then moved to taiwan made (i think CMC), and iirc they had malaysia made for a short period, now im hearing stories about indian made verbatims failing alot

      • Well you thought wrong. TDK's have NEVER been premium media, they're Media Code IDs have always been either Indian (TTHXX) or Taiwanese (TTGXXX,TDKGXX), and in recent times they've outsourced to CMC Magnetics and Ritek, which are two very, VERY poor manufacturers. Which means high jitter, low reflectivity, low durability, high fail rate and worthless for archival purposes. In other words, after 3 months or so, you have a nice coaster instead of a disc…

The only discs worth buying from computer hardware stores in person anymore (if you're fickle about ordering off the Net) are Sony's or Verbatim's.
They generally stick to either Daxon (sub-division of Sony itself), Taiyo Yuden, Hitachi, Ricoh or Mitsubishi Chemical Corps, which are widely regarded as the best Optical Media manufacturers in the world.

Taiyo Yudens can be ordered direct from the Japanese manufacturers or outlet stores online (Google around), and are without a doubt the best optical media currently in production.

        • This is OZbargain - you are welcome to post suggested sources for the Taiyo Yuden.

Maybe a post in the forums would be appropriate or even putting something on the Wiki
