Wireless 1: TP-Link Archer D7 ADSL2+ Modem Router $135 with Free Shipping

doubled7

Good morning ozbargain! Been poking around today for a good ADSL2+ wireless modem to upgrade my aunt's crappy ISP provided one (yes I'm the family 'tech guy'). Spotted this great deal in the Wireless1 newsletter for one of ozbargain's favourite modems.

Interestingly, the newsletter says with promo code doubled7 the modem comes down to $139 including delivery, but when I applied it in cart it was $135! Hopefully they'll honour the orders that go though at that price so get in quick for an extra $4 saving haha :)

Modem specs (Pinched from previous deals):

  • Modem Router
  • 802.11ac Wi-Fi
  • 1.75Gbps Concurrent Dual Band
  • Strong Range
  • 2 x USB ports
  • 3 External Antennas and High Power Amplifiers
  • Full Gigabit Wired Connections
  • Interchangeable LAN/WAN Port
  • Guest Network

Have checked all the usual sites and this is the cheapest deal around. These guys have run similar deals in the past and thankfully prices haven’t gone up yet given AUD is now at ~70c. If they honour the $135 price that will be the cheapest deal I've ever seen for this modem.

The deal expires 9am on Monday.

Have a great weekend y'all :)

      • Thanks for the advice.
Would the USB2 speed be noticeably slower for connecting a hard drive to share across the network?

  • If there's anyone on the fence about this router - buy it.

I've been watching the prices on these and they've been $169 for the past few months.

  • Been looking for a new modem router for a while, so very happy with this. Can anyone recommend a decent adapter, as my desktop is a few years old and even now the internet runs very slowly off my old n router.

  • Hi guys, this seems like a hot deal! I have an antique OPEN824RWL that I owned since 2008 or so, never had any problems with it. I get like 9.61Mbps download on Speedtest.net using wireless in the apartment using ADSL2+. Can someone give me a good reason why I should upgrade? I do not need guest network and am not too fussed about sharing data via hard drive connected to the router. Is my speed stone age slow? Could I do better using a better router? This speed is in Sydney CBD. Thanks very much!

  • Only issue I have is VOIP access for 4 DECT handsets. My FritzBox is getting long in the tooth - but handles the connection for the DECT handsets well. Any thoughts / options people?

what are the benefits of a better router? IE: This modem router compared to a cheap n300 one if you have N devices and our internet is pretty awful <20mbps? How is wifi measured better? Is my n300 router (cheap as chips) actually not keeping up with what my paltry internet is giving it? Is it signal clarity or range or both for wifi?

    Cheers

    • I have an N300 ($15 on Gumtree) and would like to know this too.

I purchased a asus ac66u from Wireless1 in Parramatta. I later had issues with the device and went to the Asus repair centre in Auburn. Turns out Wireless1 sold me an overseas device which was not covered by Australian warranty. It included an Australian plug and everything. They are a popular store with a decent reputation, but just keep this in mind.

      Hi,

I'm not sure how this has turned out as we definitely do not sell any overseas stock. If your Asus device is faulty, you don't need to go to Auburn for a repair! We only require a case number from Asus and we will do a replacement for you :)

Just call Asus, advise them of the fault and then see our staff or send back the product so we may organise this for you.

Please PM me if you have any other issues and I will personally see if we can help you further. Cheers!

        Hi acek47

I acquired my ac66u from your store, and was told categorically by the service centre that it was an overseas device. Asus determined this by looking up the product serial number. They said they would do me a favour by taking the device. Strangely I was sent back a working ac68u… so I can't give it to your store to inspect.

        Thanks for your reply.

        • Hi,

Well, I can only apologise then for the inconvenience, but I'm glad you do have a working device.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further issues.

  • Will this guy work with TPG ADSL2 ?

Thanks OP. I would've bought one through the store but I needed it by 1st thing Friday morning. Went into Officeworks Subiaco where they had 3 on the shelf and I got them to price match. Came to $128.25 after their 5% price match discount.

How did you prove it? Add one to cart and put in the coupon code?

Was about to buy and upgrade from a Billion 7800NL but realised my two laptops don't support 802.11ac and only our mobiles do. So until I upgrade the laptops, probably not worth upgrading to this TP-Link? I don't have drop out or range issues…

I caved…..bought one too. Will be good with the mobile devices and NBN when it comes to my area one day.

  • Got one to replace Optus supplied crappy Sagem. Sagem is not so bad it is just Optus that have asked for every feature to be stripped off in order to get a cheap unit for their customers. Hopefully it will be a improvement.

    Thanks OP, trigger pulled.

To Wireless1 - thanks for honouring the deal! Also had great experience calling the other day in regards to choosing an AC adapter and receiving top advice over the phone, thumb up!

  • Hi guys, what chipset does Archer D7 use? Is it Broadcom? I have Billion 7800VDPX not sure if this is an upgrade

  • I have a Netgear N300 DGN2200. Is it worth me upgrading?

  • I've picked of one of these recently and it's been good so far. However it strangely prevents the family's Lexus from auto unlocking when in proximity of the key.

Does anyone know if it can throttle bandwidth to certain computers on the network?

  • Thanks OP. Was looking to replace my dying DLink router. Bought 1.

  • Doh - just saw this now.

  • Bought one this morning 8am. Goodone.

  • Please do another D9 deal wireless1! I bought one off you last time and it's awesome and I would like to buy another from you guys for a friend.
