Wireless 1: TP-Link Archer D7 ADSL2+ Modem Router $135 with Free Shipping

1341
doubled7

Good morning ozbargain! Been poking around today for a good ADSL2+ wireless modem to upgrade my aunt's crappy ISP provided one (yes I'm the family 'tech guy'). Spotted this great deal in the Wireless1 newsletter for one of ozbargain's favourite modems.

Interestingly, the newsletter says with promo code doubled7 the modem comes down to $139 including delivery, but when I applied it in cart it was $135! Hopefully they'll honour the orders that go though at that price so get in quick for an extra $4 saving haha :)

Modem specs (Pinched from previous deals):

  • Modem Router
  • 802.11ac Wi-Fi
  • 1.75Gbps Concurrent Dual Band
  • Strong Range
  • 2 x USB ports
  • 3 External Antennas and High Power Amplifiers
  • Full Gigabit Wired Connections
  • Interchangeable LAN/WAN Port
  • Guest Network

Have checked all the usual sites and this is the cheapest deal around. These guys have run similar deals in the past and thankfully prices haven’t gone up yet given AUD is now at ~70c. If they honour the $135 price that will be the cheapest deal I've ever seen for this modem.

The deal expires 9am on Monday.

Have a great weekend y'all :)

looks like a good deal, cheapest on staticice is $168 excl shipping.
    If only I needed one.
Maybe my elderly parents need an upgrade…

  • Solid router. Guest network also handy.

    • My C9 has been running without a restart for 9 months continuously powered by a UPS backup. Hopefully this is just as good.

  • +1

good router. internode, not so good.

  • +1

Bought this modem router over 12 months ago for $145 .great device .dual band and guest network as well as usb to share everything on my portable hdd to all devices

    • Do you get decent speeds out of the usb?

      • +1

        Usb2. So… average.

        • real world speeds? Usb 2/3 on a router doesn't really matter since the best one's i've seen only read at about 15mb/s at best

        • @krisspy: sounds about right for usb 2. The wireless is likely much faster than the usb.

  • You are a champion. I have been stalking the web for the last 4 weeks waiting for a deal on d7 or d9. It seems since the drop in the Aussie dollar shops are rarely discounting them now. Any chance they had a promo code for the d9 as well?

  • How would this compare with the Netgear R7000? I've been waiting for a good price on one of those. I only need the router and don't need 5GHz. All I need is decent range and speeds through walls as I'll have it in the middle of my house and it needs to feed everywhere, although the "important" things will be withing 5m or so.

    • +1

the negative that I've read is that the 2.4Hz isn't the best, so it might be an issue if u not using 5GHz. If you only looking for a router why look at the D7 instead of the C7?

    • +3

Definitely the R7000 as a router is superior.

    Hello Ozbargainers!

Just picked up that our deal has hit the front page and wanted to let you know that we're happy to honour this deal in store if you mention Ozbargain to our floor staff!

And although the $135 was an error on our part, we'll match that too :)

    Happy hunting everyone!

    • Thanks!

Any deals on the C9 or asus rt ac68u?

      • +1

        Or deals on the d9?

        • Yes, a deal on the D9 would be much appreciated!

        • +3

Trust me, we hear you guys! We're working on deals for you, coming soon :D

        • @acek47:

Nooooo, I just got home to purchase it and it says code is invalid, is it over?

        • @Gazette:
Hi Gazette, have you signed up and logged in? This is required for coupon codes to apply on our website :)

Please PM me if you have any further issues!

        • +2

          @acek47:

Ohhh I found out the problem.

I asked my dad to purchase it earlier while I was still out and his card was declined because he doesn't use netbank (no netcode sms) and that counted as "one use" for the coupon so it became invalid for my account, works again when I log out and try everything from the start on a new account.

          Thanks for replying!

        • @Gazette: netcode sms isn't used for online transactions it's only used for transactions through netbank to people and bpay companies not in your address book. Must've been declined for a different reason.

        • @Agret:

It may not have been directly associated with netcode sms itself but he saw that something mentioning netbank/netcode sms was not registered on his account so he cannot proceed until he does so, and I can confirm that my dad's account is not registered for netbank and so he can't make purchases through the system that wireless1 uses.

Although I have seen netcode sms being used for online purchases for authorization when my sister buys from certain online stores, so it's not entirely "declined for a different reason".

It's not the first time it's happened to him and he definitely has no issues purchasing other stuff online and instores, he just doesn't want to sign up for any online banking at the moment, no matter though, I used my paypal to purchase the modem anyways.

    • Can this be delivered to parcel lockers?

    • Could you possibly do some deals on router+adaptor combos? I currently need at least two AC adaptors (PCI or USB) and a router at this stage.

    • Just so you know - google marks your emails as spam. Probably worth reviewing their guidelines.

      All emails from you guys are in spam and it says the following;

      • Sorry it wasn't all emails. It was all the sign up emails and newsletter subscription. Order email got through fine.

          Hi Jimmej,

Thanks for that. I'll definitely take a look into it. Doesn't help anyone to have genuine deals thrown into spam! Much appreciated

    • Do you know when these will start shipping?

      • +2

        Hi biggles,

We've started shipping them yesterday and have managed to get through the majority. I apologise for any delay but hopefully it can be appreciated that with this kind of deal there are a lot of orders! Thanks for your patience :)

    • Hi, I have ordered on saturday and It is still processing. Could you tell me when will it be delivered? Thank you.

      • same here…

        • Still no shipping :(.

Are you guys out of stock?

Here's hoping that it has shipped and that I just haven't had any confirmation.

        • @jimmej: Arrived today, thanks.

Bought this modem from these people - pretty sure I paid the same but might have been more - some initial sync issues with ADSL2+ but it was a firmware issue which tp-link patched and problem free ever since with ADSL2+ Fetch TV and Netflix . Occasional buffering thanks to garbage Oz bandwidth but the modem was a great upgrade from the old 8960

    • Ooh, nice, I'm currently running an 8960, so good to hear it worth the step up.

  • Thanks, was waiting for a deal on these

  • Could not resist, great bargain. Thanks mate!

  • Is it worth upgrading to this from netgear dgnd3700??

    • Yep

  • Is the C9 better for $30 more?

    • +1

Be careful because the C9 is just a wireless router only, whereas the D7 is both an ADSL modem and wireless router in one.

      • +1

        Thanks. Purchased one!

    • +1

D9 is the the modem equivelent

  • Hi rep. In your last deal in March, I bought the Archer D9 with the bonus Camera via redemption, still haven't received it from the buggers at TP-Link. They don't lift their phones nor reply to emails.

Anyone else in the same boat* as me?

    (*eff off Tony)

    • Hi aurotaro,

Please PM me, I'll see what we can do!

      • sent :)

    • I received mine. About two months after I had lodged the claim.

    • I also received mine after about 2 months, despite submitting the claim the day after the promotion ended as it took longer to get to WA. I didn't contact anyone and it came through lucky for me.

  • Good modem router. Bought one last week at officeworks for $160 PGB to replace an n600 netgear. Getting max down link speed now.

  • Thanks OP! Been looking for one of these at a good price. Seems to have good recommendations on Whirlpool as one of the better cheap ADSL modem/routers.

  • Got one of these about 2 months ago and it's great. Good value for money modem/router….do recommend.

  • Can't see this as being available fot ddwrt… that right?

  • Looks like its expired. The code is no longer valid.

    • I just purchased the D7 not even 5 minutes ago from Wireless1, the discount code worked fine!
Make sure that you typed the code correcty.

      • Scratch the code being expired. I think it was an error caused by payment timing out. Created a new account and it worked fine.

  • Is this the best modem+router combo on the market in this price level?

If price was no object - would the C9 be the overall best modem+router to get or is there a better one available by another manufacturer?

    • The D7 is considered one of the best in its price range in terms of, stability, features, wireless range and performance. At this price, even I couldn't resist buying one.

      • Many thanks. Is the D9 even better when it comes to stability? Or should I just get the D7?

My parents signed up for TPG and the 'default hardware' is utter crap. Now it's up to me to get that junk replaced with something that does the best possible job, regardless of price, so if another model costs $100 extra over the D7 but does a better job then I'll go for it.

        • Not sure how much or if the D9 is more stable but i hardly ever have to reboot my D7, not sure of the stock standard modem features from tpg, but the D7 internet auto-reconnects so they never have to reboot if the adsl drops out, i've only had to reboot to troubleshoot the wifi … :) (and to be honest it usually wasn't the modem that caused the problem).

Its value for money but i would guess the service from tp-link wouldn't be the best if you run into issues, again ive never had to deal with them so i cant comment.

  • basically its the best modem router I have ever own , powerful wifi stable connection amazing :)
better than my previous Billion $250ish
get it and you will never regarded

  • Anyone have experience using this router on a network of 7+ connections? Any drop outs? Is the processor in this unit strong enough to handle gaming?

    • We have about 10 different wifi devices connected at the same time and it handles them fine.

      • Thanks for the reply. I ended up buying it, seems like a great buy from all the comments and reviews. Hopefully this will fix drop outs with chromecast and give improved reception for the upstairs.

  • Concur with all above +ve reviews. Bought this (on OzB deal) last year. Best modem I've had in terms of continuous use. It never goes down or glitches out. I've had many, believe me, but this one just keeps on going.
    UI is crap & non-intuitive.
    Guest network is very useful.
Signal range is pretty reasonable too & should cover most houses

  • Unbelievable deal for a brilliant unit. Had mine for a year…just brilliant!

  • It's a great deal.

I live in brisbane, so I assume if it breaks down i need to get it to/from the retailer for rma.

I don't think I've had a tp-link product yet make it to the 3year mark.. so I think I'll wait for a local deal, for rma convenience.

  • Thanks OP been looking for a deal on this router for over 2 months

  • Thanks OP. great deal.

  • +1

Purchased! Thanks OP and Wireless 1 for honoring the price.

  • Wish you could install dd-wrt on this already…

  • Bought one, after so much thinking….i know i will need this one in future..

    • You should've purchased it without thinking, they're that good lol

      • Actually i didnt need, just because the price is good, thought to get one, never know you may need in future ! Lol

  • Thanks OP. Bought one as soon as I saw the deal. :)

  • Needed an upgrade for my adsl modem/router. Currently using a crappy belkin n300 surf. thanks op

  • Awesome! Ordered

  • -2

pity no freebies with it this time :(

  • Should I upgrade this from the billion 7300.is this nbn friendly?

    • Yes. One if the Ethernet ports is a wan. No idea if it does vdsl though if you are getting liberal nbn.

  • What makes this better than an isp router?
    Particularly with oz speeds
    Cheers

    • same question

  • Damn, no Wake on Lan..

  • I have a fritzbox 7270, its about 4 years old…. should I upgrade to this? never really paid any attention to modem specs and never used any special features on the fritzbox.

  • Release the D9 deal boys! Take my cash

  • Cab someone please point me to the newsletter sign up.

  • Purchased one! Thank you OP and and huge credit to Wireless 1 for honouring the price.

  • Thanks! Bought in hopes it will fix my current WiFi issues I have with my crappy dodo modem router they gave me.

  • guys, moving into an area soon with NBN (Opticomm), will this modem still be useful then ?
It says NBN ready but want to get some information.

    • Yep, one of the ports is a lan/wan port so you'd just gave to plug it in from the opticomm NTD and set it up appropriately.

  • I read a review where they say they are not so great for media

    http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/review/tp-link/archer_d7_ac175…

'However, we're not fond of the Archer D7 as a media server'.

I would love to upgrade but media via an attached hard drive would be a large part of what I wanted.

    • not the modem for media playing, but u can add usb drives and if you have a plex server map the drive i guess.

      • Thanks for confirming that. I was very tempted.

  • Just bought one. In and out in minutes. Just how i like my gadget shopping. Or shopping in general.

  • -4

    D5 is $129 @ SE

Which seems to be the standard price anyway lol

    • That's the d5. This post is for the d7 and the price comes with free shipping.

      • -1

Yeah I know I was just pointing out other options as some pol were interested. Hence why I actually wrote "D5"

        Lol @ neg spam though

  • I bought a D9 2 months ago to replace a 5yo Billion. Very happy with it. I need to replace my parents' modem/router now too (I'm family tech guy too), should I buy another D9 or get this? What are the main differences?

    • +1

Mainly the difference is in USB 3 ports, and beam forming. These two features aren't on the D7. The processor is also slower on the D7, but not particularly needed given it lacks Usb 3 support.

Hardly must have features, your parents will be ok using a D7.

If you still have the original box for your modem there is a comparison chart on the back. It lists all the features of the Archer router and the ones that are inferior to it.
