Example of the quality of picture

That is considerably better than I thought it would be.

still wouldnt want to have to watch it though :)

    • One of the "Cons" is the noisy fan. And watching that video you can really hear it.

There's also another video of it with the lights off and whilst the picture is surprisingly good, you can really hear the fan going for it.

  • 800x400? Yeah, sure, probably putting a magnifier in front of a 5" smartphone would have better image quality.

  • Too expensive for ozbargain. Can you do $20?

    Putting 1080p is misleading.

    • yup.

  • looks like has very good reviews on taobao.com

That's the US$!! AU works out to around $101. *8v(
    - I'm sure the USD reference wasn't there a moment ago!! *8vP

  • Maybe an interesting solution for a truck HUD?

    • or use a $20 android phone..

    • Would still need an inverter for 240v.

  • I'm after a projector for occasional movie watching or game playing but the projected screen on this seems too small. Would the next step up be a BenQ?

    • +2

I'd have a look at the CL720D. It's another Chinese projector but it does 720p output and is far brighter. Runs about $140 - $10 off coupon on my site.

      • cheers!

      • looked at videos. quality is like watching a 480p movie. im guessing next step up would be a true 1080 p model?

        • Yep, but the price jumps pretty considerably however, the tradeoff is a significantly better unit. I find these cheap projectors are good for those that aren't too fussed i.e. kids, for backdrops, etc.

        • @Darkscythe: cheapest decent 1080 p unit you know of?

        • +1

@tomkun01: I'd probably suggest BenQ's offerings as they're typically a good mix of price and quality.

      • +1

I'd totally go for that if shipping wasn't ~$100aud!

        • Wow. Didn't realise it was that high! Sometimes I hate that we're so remote…

        • About $324 AUD all up. Much less attractive price

Sent a PM to "gearbest" to ask for a deal on this. I think it's cheaper on dealsmachine, but I can't get past the cart page to double check. Should be $270 AUD with expedited shipping for the CL720D on their website

        • i'd go for that.

        • +1

@superroach: Rep replied saying he can't give us any deals at the moment. I think it'd be easier to find a BenQ 1070 somewhere for around the officeworks clearance price from a year ago ($700)

    I think the 800 Lumens/is probably a bit optimistic…

iv got 35k sitting in savings, ill get one for lols

    • Do you tell everyone that you're "cashed" up?

  • Good to see the comments from Ignorant people :P

Here is the same rebranded model on Amazon, its the #1 Seller on Projectors

    http://www.amazon.com/Taotaole-Multi-media-Portable-Projecti…

Still its Gearbest, so would be careful :P

    • I'm searching for a safer alternative to gearbest for a projector. Thoughts?

  • Its not bad for the money to be honest. $100 AUD will get you 320x240 projectors on Fleabay at best or a 10 year old SVGA+ projector that needs a lamp replacement.

Watching Movies is ok on this if you are watching 720p or less (ie. downloaded ones) or playing the Wii - but will not be too good on the 1080p/Bluray or as an office projector for hi res text / documents.

  • I've actually reviewed this unit on Home Theatre Life. Overall, it's a pretty good projector for the price. It does have an annoying UNIC logo in the top right all the time which can't be switched off though.

    • Thanks. I've also got the full review up there too.

  • looks to be cheaper from Dealsmachine for AUD73.44: http://www.dealsmachine.com/best_250616.html

    • cheapest shipping option is like $34AU

      • Ok my bad, didn't check the shipping charges.

  • Reviews say this unit is a little noisy and slightly difficult to focus and set keystone correction with a lens that shifts under its own weight. The newer, Tronfy GM60 is suppose to be better but dearer. It has a slightly better picture and is not so noisy but has the same unimpressive 800 x 480 resolution.

  • Any good portable projector with native resolution 1280*720 for under A$200?

    • +1

double or triple that price maybe

  • I have both the small UC30 & bigger UC80 models & they're good quality low cost units compared to other chinese budget projectors.

I'll eventually get 3x short throw brand name projectors to use as a 'bezel-less' eyefinity display. XD
