    • the start of a ozbargain rivalry?

  • Great price!
Here's another option for those looking for 2.5" with a bit more space:

  • +1

I'm gonna wait until the 1TBs are under $200 and replace all my clunky external power supply ones. NAS and 2.5" are the only way to go.

    • shouldn't be too long now:) there are already under US$200

I was going to get a WD 1TB when I was in the states, but gave it a miss due to the bloatware and got 2 WD elements 500gb instead.

I am not sure if ppl are tracking this, but in the US 500gb 2.5 ext, has been dropping in price from around the 110 mark to 70-80 mark, and recently it was as low as 60 on Dell Small Business. All this in a 3 month period.

So we can probably expect the prices here to follow suit, well hopefully:)

  • and what are you gonna do if you need more portable storage space now?
or between now and THAT time ?

    :)

    • My 3x 500gb 2.5"s suffice for now. But I do find 500GB limiting, which is why I refuse to buy any more no matter how cheap they get.
It's my stupid 1TB 3.5 that annoys me, and it has all the family photos etc (200G of them). So I can't access them without lugging around that extra brick AND power cable.

why would you buy an external for use as internal
just buy the drive by itself for around 65 dollars anyway and u get warranty

  • Are these 2.5" ext HDD more reliable than the 3.5" ones? I read a lot of those 3.5" ext HDD power supply kept failing.

    • Well these don't have an external power supply which can fail, and 2.5" HDDs are designed to take more physical punishment (which is still not much).

      • I see, thanks. :)

  • Can anyone please upload or provide a link to the full catalogue.

    • Wait for few more days then it will be on Catalogue Central.

  • +3

Bring the catalogue to Dick Smith/Office works/Harvey Norman for 5 bucks less.

    • Why $5 cheaper @ Dick Smith? I though DS only price match.

  • Good price, even though it's the cheapo model.

    Essential is better than Element

    • They are pretty much the same, they are just a scorpio blue with a usb adapter in a plastic case.

The difference is in warranties, but for me warranties are useless, since the actual data is way more valueable.

      • The warranty on the 1.5TB Elements drives is 3 years.

    • +1

Why is Essential is better than Element? On what basis?

      • +1

Essentials has longer warranty 3yrs compared to 1yr, and backup software. But otherwise, they are the same hard drive with a usb adapter.

But note that the Essentials Target is selling is the older model, which in the view of many, is a better model than the latest Essentials. Because the latest Essentials has unremovable bloatware.

      • Also the Essentials are more attractive, and may have better construction. I know the 3.5" desktop drives in the elements have a cheapo case which over heats, where as the essentials is great.

  • for those who can't wait, HN QV and OW S. Melbourne have it on sale for $78

  • I see Officeworks have matched BigW's price: http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Dat…
