Kmart Catalogue, Portable Phone Charger 5,000mAh $15

60

The latest Kmart catalogue has a 5,000 mAh portable charger for 15 bucks. This would probably provide two charges for most phones, or one each for self and partner. It seems like a good deal for that capacity. Dick Smith has some $10 ones at the Karingal, Vic. store, but they are only 2200 mAh. I can't vouch for the quality, but Kmart usually takes back faulty goods without hassle.

At that price, you wouldn't go Xiaomi?

    • +1

From the picture, this actually looks like it's an unmarked Xiaomi 5200mAh power bank.

      • I don't think so, Xiaomi doesn't have that white bit on the bottom.

I'd not risk it and just spend a few bucks more for a Xiaomi.

    • +9

Each to their own, but I would rather pay 61 cents more and buy locally where I am guaranteed to receive the product and can take it back for a refund if there are any problems. I've been burned a couple of times trying to buy from China/HK. Maybe I'm not a true Ozbargainer - I look for best value over cheapest price.

    • +2

This is in US$ mate, so when you convert into Aus$ it's $19.47. Kmart is the cheaper option.

    Go with xiaomi power banks

  • anyone else look through the whole catalogue to try find it?

Cheaper on eBay. 12000mAh for $10

(Why was my last comment blocked?! Why am I automatically assumed an affiliate?!)

    • Again, nerves about buying from China after being burned.

      • what burned you from china?
        some cherries?

      • Mushtato?

      12000mAh

      no.

Cheaper on eBay. 12000mAh for $10

Those are counterfeit Xiaomi Power Banks. Which is why none of the pictures show the front side of the Power Banks. That is where the "Mi" brand is screen printed.

The 12,000mAh rating is quite obviously false. These same Power Banks are variously rated at 12,000, 8,000, and 5,000mAh. From their size I think they MAY be 5,000mAh, but perhaps less.

And people ask me why I'm nervous about buying from China on the net versus Kmart.

No where does it say it is Xiaomi. These are generic powerbanks. You can see from pics front side is blank and reverse has a label. Nothing deceptive here.

In terms of capacity, it says 12mAh, judging from its size (11x7x1) is not exactly small; and capacity is in line with other models of comparative size. Where is all this skepticism coming from?

Just do a search of the Internet for other 12mAh models, size is all about the same.

The price Is cheap because the seller is doing a promo. But there are plenty with this capacity going at $15 mark.

The seller covered it up in a paint/photo program.

No, it states "12000mAh" in at least three places in the listing.

Just do a search of the Internet for other 12mAh models, size is all about the same.

No that is not correct. Just compare the size and weight against genuine Xiaomi 5,000mAh, and 10,000mAh, Power banks that use the same type of battery.

The capacity is false. The price is not cheap. I saw these same Power Banks for less in the past. The price is about correct for present times.

Here is a link to the counterfeits - http://www.tmart.com/XIAOMI-5000mAh-Power-Bank-Portable-Char…

I also found the same item on other sites but not being sold as Xiaomi. I have two of these Power Banks.

        • @A3Australia: I meant 12000. 12 wouldn't make sense.

Again, size wise, 12000mah powerbanks are around 11cm x 7cm x 1cm, and going price is about $15.
If it is 12000 which is what it says $10 is cheap.

This one might be imitation xiaomi based on what you said but it's branded generic in the ad now. You can get ur money back if it's not or if the capacity doesn't match.

But the point is there are plenty of other models on eBay where you can get way cheaper than $15 for 5000mAh which is what OP posted.

They are not 12,000mAh if the size is of the complete device, including casing, input, output, and circuitry is 11cm x 7cm x 1cm - More likely 2,500mAh

If it is 12000 which is what it says $10 is cheap.

          It isn't 12,000mAh

Too much time trouble and perhaps cost. Better not to buy such crap in the first place. I was lucky to get my money back.

Not really. For true 5,000mAh in a slim attractive case, one will need to spend $15 to $20.

        • @A3Australia:

          not true.

go to ebay, search 12000mAh and look at all the listing descriptions. the size is all about the size mentioned. some thicker and shorter, some longer and thinner. but roughly the same.

go to ebay. search 2500mAh and look at all the listing descriptions. they are all stick sized. much much smaller.

5000mAh powerbanks are about $10 (on ebay) multiple sellers and models. no need to pay up to $15.

I use a $12 6000mAh powerbank which I bought a year ago. works fine. stores at least 2 full charges.

You do not appear to understand - THEY ARE LIES!

They just print 5,000mAh, 8,000mAh, 10,000mAh, 20,000mAh, and even 30,000mAh, on the same Power Banks.

          ^ what they said…

pretty much you cant believe anything from these dodgy asian retailers. from experience several of them over state capacities by 10x, IE a 3000mah battery will only really have 300mah. it seems its more the norm than the exception.

  • it's in-store only, unless I am missing something.

  • The same Power Bank - listed as:

    Please note:
A 5,000mAh lithium polymer battery is a bit over 11cm long
A 2,500mAh lithium polymer battery is a bit over 9cm long

The genuine Xiaomi Slim 5,000mAh Power Bank is over 12.5cm long so that it can contain a 5,000mAh battery.
All the above Power Banks are 11cm long. They most likely all contain only a 2,500mAh battery.
