Stay away from this. I have bought a similar/same TV box from Geekbuying over a month ago for just US$59.99 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/205083) but it never worked correctly from day one. Geekbuying also admitted it does not work with Netflix at all. After eight emails to their support department and only useless replies I finally demanded an exchange or money back. No more replies since then.

    • if clear pops in he maybe able to sort it out for you you.

    • If its the Tronsmart R68 you ordered then there is a netflix firmware patch here - http://www.tronsmart.com/?p=3521
Yes its a bit of a pain to get working but I managed it.

Make sure you get the right firmware for your box (If you have the Gigabit model its a different Firmware).

There are also firmwares for most android media players to be found on Freaktab.com

      • Even then, does it play Netflix in HD?

        • +1

I could be wrong, but iirc Netflix HD will only work on devices approved by Netflix.

      • The initial updates for the Orion were manual OTA, but the rest including that one are now through automatic OTA.

      • Thanks for replying. It is not that I'm not willing to fiddle but my particular box does not have a micro USB port to plug a cable into (for firmware upgrades) and no reset switch to boot into recovery (checked the mainboard itself). A male/male USB cable does not do the trick on any port. OTA updates via the installed Android app are also not available.

OK after a bit of research according to this thread - http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-support/rk3688-devices-a… which looks like your box.

This looks like your box and no one has it running Netflix as yet. Maybe stick to Name brands like Tronsmart for an increased chance of getting things to work.

    • Netflix not working is not Geekbuying's fault as it's a firmware issue from the manufacturer. It has been fixed for the Tronsmart Orion, but I'm not sure if their firmware would work even though it's the same device. I don't see Geekbuying advertising that it works with Netflix either…

HOWEVER I can help you get your refund/exchange issue processed fairly quickly. PM me your order number and I'll speak to my contacts at Geekbuying.

      • Thanks, PM sent.

    • I am personally really happy with my Tronsmart Orion R68. But then again I havent used netflix just Kodi.

And ABC Iview wasnt working well but I found this whirlpool post which I'll try later

  • 2 experiences with Geekbuying so far -
1st was great - shipped and delivered within 5 Business days.
2nd experience not so great - It said the product was available to ship in 2-7 business days. Support then contacted me saying the shipping method I had selected wasnt available (TNT), then that the product wasn't in stock. Eventually I said if it wasn't shipped that day (2 weeks after order), I would like to cancel. Geekbuying sent me a DHL shipping ID that evening, however it now says that Waybill has been received since Monday but no change since then. I've emailed to ask if the product has actually shipped but I'm waiting for the reply.

Overall, order with a grain of salt.

    • Yer shipping can be a problem from that part of the world.
hope it can get sorted If Clear pops on he maybe able to assist.

    • TNT is not available if it's being shipped from the Hong Kong warehouse. All products shipped from HK have a ribbon across their image.

PM me your order number and I'll find out where it's at.

    Zidoo do offer great support.
Sorry you had trouble with you previous deal.
Hope you got some warranty of they sorted you out.
New firmware updates have rectified a lot of issues.

  • If my "shipped" android tv box from GearBest doesnt turn up this year, ill get one of these.

    Same experience as foxpro. YMMV.

No reply at all after email with issue with the zidoo X9.

Once you get your order, you are on your own.

They have no direct contact information on their page, and they will not even reply in their forum.

I, personally, will not deal with them again.

    Good luck.

    • Did you leave any post on the Zidoo forum ?
clear should be able to sort out any issues you have. If he is about.

      • I did.

        Here [http://forum.zidoo.tv/index.php?threads/vfd-not-showing-anything.476/]

        • You have lost the Digital display on the front of box.
          Caused by firmware update?
Box is fine display is not
Have you tried newer Rom or gone back to older to see if it helps.
Could be just faulty warranty is there if needed.

        • @wintoand:

I will try the new firmware. But I dont think this will help.

And nobody answered what to do if firmware did not work.

Where to send for warranty? Zidoo or geekbuying? Why no clear instruction at all? And everytime everyone have to do the same thing to work it out themselves?

          @netbies:
          New Firmware could help.
If that fails message clear with you order/purchase number etc
He will point you in the right direction.

    • There is direct contact information here.

Feel free to ask me for help too. I speak directly with their marketing team and I can get issues resolved fairly quickly.

      • The suppport_aftersale e-mail address doesn't work. Or it didn't for me, anyway. The mails didn't fail or bounce, they just vanished into a black hole. :-(

        • +1

If you want I can help you out? Just PM me your order number.

        • @Clear:
Nah, it's pretty minor and not worth bothering a third party about. Gave up and solved it myself for the cost of a couple of bucks anyway.

It's more of a caveat for others that IME after-sales support means bothering a third-party to act on your behalf (and you're probably busy enough as it is!) or fix it yourself. Thanks for the offer, anyway.

@NoPantsToday: I'm assuming it's the AU adapter they include? I've had only one work properly out of half a dozen unfortunately.

        • @Clear:

Heh, no, but only because I didn't even get that included with mine. I keep a box of spares around the place anyway and do the hot-melt glue thing.
It was a fault with the connection from the adapter to the unit(intermittent power connection, probably a dodgy wire or dry joint or something.)

Just took a a spare plug and 10 secs soldering to fix, better than new now. :-)
