$5 for 15 X 500MB 4G Data Sessions over 6 Months (Optus Prepaid Daily) - Requires $30 Woolworths Spend

170

Thought this may be worth mentioning as a deal thanks to sween64's comment

Combine TA's $5 Optus deal with the Prepaid Daily Plan and you get a sweet deal. Great if you travel frequently around Australia and need that data while your away for a few days.

Its also billed per kb so you get more bang for your buck

Enjoy

  • Don't you have to spend a minimum of $35 to get this deal?

    • +1

Spend $30 at Woolworths (which most people do anyways) and scan your EDR card. Then approach the Service desk and ask for the deal. Simple :)

I thought most OBers would shop at Aldi

        • +6

Most will stock up on half price specials

        • yeah, I need to go and use the rain check for 50% off snakes ….. love the 50% off deals

      • This Deal is Sweeter, as you get Unlimited Talk + Messaging (in AU)

BUT the Law may still limit your Max. # of Active PrePaid Accounts (to 5?)

TIP-1:Gotta Dual-SIM phone? Put 2x Optus MyPrePaid Daily SIM in it:

SIM-1 Set for …Daily (which starts at $1) for Unlimited Messaging
        Add $0.50 for Unlim'd Talk ($1.50)

        SIM-2 Set for …Daily Plus (starts at $2, for 0.5 GB + " " + Talk;
Add $2 for total of 1 GB ($4)

Use ONLY SIM-1 for low-Data days
        Use ONLY SIM-2 for high-Data "

        (Maybe train folks to label
        Both tel.no. w/ your name)

TIP-2 NEVER activate Both SIMs in same Midnight-to-Midnight period

PS Coles' recent offer did Not require use of their counterpart card.

        • Oddly enough, Optus' MyOptus app seems to come in 2 flavours:

          1. lets you get info on Only 1 PrePaid service

          2. let's you see info on More than one "

Not all devices can run the multi-service version!!!!

          Eg:
Single-SIM Galaxy Note 10.1" can, but
          Dual-SIM Galaxy Mega 5.8 can't.

(Why you'd think Tony Abbott had de-
signed this part of Samsung's world! ;-)

        • @IVI: Hmmm… interesting! Can the software as work as normal with each sim? For example: Hit warning/stop software-based data limit on one, switch to 2nd sim etc?

        • @IVI: Really? Still taking a swipe even though he's dead?

"session" isn't really the right word, as you can have multiple sessions in the period (which ends each midnight).

If you activate a "day" at 12am, you get unlimited calls, unlimited SMS and 500 MB of data for 24 hours.

But if you activate a "day" at 11pm, you get unlimited calls, unlimited SMS and 500 MB of data for only one hour. Using it past midnight will activate an additional "day".

We must all Complain to TIO that:

      • it's unduly costly to do what you suggest: You're charged 2 start fees!
(for starting multiple sessions in same 24-hour Mn-toMn period)

      • changing MyPrePaid Daily <—> Daily Plus MUST change to COST NIL!!

This is because you get charged for 2x sessions.

      Optus greedily charge for BOTH,
making it unduly costly to start 1x SIM
on a different MyPrePaid Daily mode
      ie, say, every other day.

You have to pay - in the worst case - $2 just to change mode
(ie, if yesterday's mode was a $2 day,
but today is to be a $1 day - or vice versa).

      This is unconscioable, IMO.

Yes, you can change mode from Optus web site,
      but - if you're out mobile -
that data usage activates the mode
(& charges you its start fee) BEFORE
you get into the mode you want.

Changing to it a few seconds later
& using any service in the preferred mode
costs a Second start fee in same 24 hours!!!!!!

        I suggest a CrowdSourced / Pop-Up MEDIA (& / or TIO) Blitz:

On same day, ring 'me & politely, but Assertively:

        • Demand that plan changes in MyPrePaid Daily & ..Daily Plus
be made CostFree (at least 1 or 2 free ones / day would suffice)
  • how do u calculate that you have used 500Mb for the day?

    • There's an app for that.

    • -Settings
      —Data Usage
      —-Drag Slider To The Day

So, to download an ok quality movie it would be $32 AUD to Optus on this plan, but you don't even have that option! You are limited artificially to 4 increases! I don't call that cheap.

Can't use it for when the Internet drops out. I used 1.25gb today and I barely used it. Just a game update on Android is on average 800MB.

    • +5

as i suggested in the deal description

Great if you travel frequently around Australia and need that data while your away for a few days.

Ideally to check emails and light web browsing.

I never suggested you download a movie.

You have to use "common sense" with deals like these.

    • Use the appropriate tech'ny for the job!

ADSL* is the one for your movie fetching job, not MobileData.
Telstra Air can lets you use your home ADSL data up, out in
a mobile context, via their or your neighbours' WiFi access pt's.

Of course, there have been & still are:

      • cheap, Unlimited Mobile Data plans in the World

Just as AU must pull its head out Climate Change &
      Embrace New+Safe Liquid-Fuel Nuclear Energy
(easier, not that Climate Change denier Abbott is gone),

So must Optus do something like Telstra Air,
to bring Mobile Data cost down to Earth.

In UK, BT encouraged folks with Unlim'd Internet
(ie, ADSL) at home to Share it w/ Other BT users,
as Telstra has (years later) finally done in Telstra Air,
SO CAN OPTUS find ways to offer really Cheap Mobile data.

  • be careful with these 500mb sessions as
1 you will lose or rather be forced to use a session if you use even 1kb by accident or an automatic app checks something.
turning off mobile data may stop this.
2 you are forced into a session if you txt optus to check your balance
3 sessions end at midnight even if you start at 1155pm
4 once you hit 500mb it auto starts another session for the day. not sure if you can turn this off. so you easily use 2 sessions if you arent very careful.

  • I use the Optus sim share plan, so my son shares my data 8GB with his 4G modem for his tablets but his phone is on Aldi so he gets cheap number for 12 months. 8 year old kids live their data. The Optus data share with the $5 one off for the extra sim has stopped us chasing plans.

  • You're welcome EC.

  • So how do you buy this what do you ask for at service desk the link you provided is just a pdf about my prepaid daily plus.

    • +1

      See TA's deal.

  • This is the optus network we are talking about here (pretty dire in my area). ymwv..

    • +2

While i agree, it can be said for all networks, and everyone's experience is obviously different, so it adds nothing to the discussion.

  • Thanks, grabbed card and working on my old Wifi hotspot from Voda. Will be great for the 8 days I am away at Christmas.

    Thanks again.

  • I have tried to purchase this in store and they did not have it, tried to call head office and they did not know about this. What am I meant to do, is this a data pack sold in store?
