Received the phone this morning via DHL - didn't know DHL operate on Public Holidays. Anyways, opened it up and there it was packaged with the original overseas charger, battery, data cable, earphones and an AU plug. Turned phone on it's legit, downloaded the software update (i think it's the stagefright patch) and now charging it as the battery is dead. No warranty paperwork through and there was a little envelope that had chinese writing on it and a small phone guide.

The G4 is much lighter than the M8 that I'm using. Going to Optus store now to get a compatible sim card i can't wait lol!

    • I'm so jelly man!!! My phone hasn't even been shipped yet (Ordered in the last hour of the deal)

Congrats on your new phone :)

If you get a chance, would you be able to check if FM radio works? Thanks :)

      • +1

Radio works great :-) and Australian channels too.

Sound not as loud as the M8 that i have (M8 had beat audio and double stereo speakers).

    • So it did not ship with an extra back cover like in some of unboxing videos?

      • +1

I ordered the Red leather and that's what I received. No extra back cover unfortunately although it would have been fantastic. The phone came with a screen protector installed.

        • +1

That's unfortunate. Guess there are different retail versions of H815 specific to regions.

        • I wouldnt call that a screen protector. there is a "peel-me" on the top right corner.

        • @PissLUR: haha that's just how phones with screens are packaged

      • +4

Just received mine as well. There is no extra back cover.

Comes with the quadbeat 3 headphones though.

    • +1

When my sister first booted up her phone, there were no set-up steps and there were already some Chinese apps installed. Was that the same for you?

      • was it sealed?

        • The box was not sealed but the phone still looked new with all the plastic covering.

        • @qwerty123: Mine was sealed with tape that read "taiwan mobile", but to be honest it looked like it was opened and reapplied. Although mine didn't have the chinese apps and went straight to setup steps.

I wouldn't be suprised if these phones were originally locked to taiwan mobile, and they've opened the box to unlock the phone.

        • @so3n:
Taiwan mobile doesn't lock phones (telcos in Taiwan don't), so I think it was opened to test DOA.

        • @clse945111: Yeah your probably right. In term's of box being unsealed - I've come to expect this from buying grey import phones.

I remember a few years ago I bought a grey import galaxy nexus from europe off Kogan. Box was opened to apply sim unlock. Funny thing was, the unlock method they used was non-permanent - phone would become sim locked again after a factory reset! Fun times.

      • +1

No, just followed start-up guide and chose Australia as Home country and straight to main screen. No chinese apps installed and more importantly no bloatware like other manufacturers. Maybe do a factory reset?

        • Scroll to the right on your apps. I've got three apps with Chinese characters.

        • @thedriver: There were no Chinese apps on my phone either. First time booted straight into Phone setup, choosing language and Australia etc.

      • -4

I noticed this as well. Call me tinfoil but I've heard of a possibility that the Chinese government is preinstalling spyware and subsidizing tech to get it widespread in Western markets. Everything is made in China these days but maybe they have more influence on some lower cost brands.

        • +2

          Taiwan is NOT China.
They may have the same similar language but they are not the same country

        • No doubt China have influence over the region. I was just raising it as a possibility, no need to get defensive my friend.

        • +1

          @Davo93:

They can spy on me all they like. I hope they enjoy! xD

        • Haha yeah good on you! You have nothing to hide so what gives :) :P <3

        • +2

@Davo93: even if all the spying are true.. then I would think that it is much safer to buy made-in-chinese phone which is sold in Taiwan than those being sold in most of the westrern countries :)

      • When I received my phone, there was just a bit of tape on one side of the box with the generic 'Do not accept if tape is tampered with' line.

Opened the phone, and went through set-up. Installed as English (Aus).

On the main screen the settings folder was in chinese? Anyone else get this as well?
Every other app and everything else was in english, but the folder that contained battery saver, apps, settings, etc. had a chinese folder name.

    • As they mentioned on their ebay page about the contents, I knew there won't be extra battery.
Anyways, How did you find red back cover? looks good? I ordered black as online reviews + most people had ordered black.

      • +2

The red cover actually looks better than I thought!

        • Nice to see everyone getting their phone's. Mine still a couple of days away, but the seller has done an excellent job thus far despite the circumstances based from the comments I am reading here now. :)

  • Still waiting for my confirmation and tracking details hoping it will be updated today :)

Can anyone tell me if DHL drop at auspost if theres noone home?

    • +1

Pretty sure they will leave a card where you can arrange a date for redelivery or to pickup at their depot.

    • Depends if you are in a DHL or third party area, DHL area you have to to call and organise another date.
      Thirdparty are is:
Toll is similar to DHL expect they can drop it in a news agency as well.
Auspost will take it to the local post office with no choice of redelivery.

    • DHL delivered mine. This means that if you are not home they will take it back to their depot and attempt to re-deliver and I'm guessing you will need to contact them and arrange it.

      • Was you phone packed in DHL bag or box…if not then it does come via dhl

    • +1

Aus post will deliver it if you are not home collect it from your nearest post office .i called hdl this morning they gave me aus post tracking number .you can check your aus post tracking number under Estimated Delivery

  • Thank God, just arrived my parcel.

  • Just received the phone to my surprise! It got marked as sent on ebay but did not receive any tracking info.

  • And mine has arrived! (Perth)

    • +1

      Awesome! Post some reviews!

      • Will do!

        • Okay only had 30 mins to play with it so far but i'm really impressed (coming from Sony Ultra T2) It's very light, snappy and sits great in the hand.

I ordered red but seems a little on the tan side, looks fantastic.

          $460 well spent!

  • +1

So I just got item sent notification from eBay. Purchased on the 30th since I was waiting on nexus prices. Probably see the phone Friday or Monday I'm guessing.

    • Same here. Purchased on 30th and it's marked as sent today.

      • Either of you get tracking numbers?
Mine also went send but no tracking…

        • No tracking number here :(

        • @tds:

Did you guys look if there was a tracking number in purchase history? That's where I got my number from…

        • +1

@18: Yeah, nothing there. Strange since i purchased earlier then some here.

  • I just received my phone as well as my microsd, so my phone is pretty much ready to use. However I don't have my tempered glass screen protector yet, probably coming tomorrow.
Would the original film on the screen suffice for the next day or two or should I just continue to use my old phone?

  • qd_au is definitely one of the best ebay sellers. I purchased a brown version on the 30th of September, but I asked them a day after if they could change it to the black version. They said it has been processed, but they will try their best to do so. I just got informed it has been delivered, and that it will be the black version! :)

Now to wait for the phone to get delivered :\

    • +1

I would've sticked with the brown ones,
FYI I got the red one!

  • +1

My order has just been updated with DHL tracking number - DHL site says:
Friday, October 02, 2015 Shipment information received TAICHUNG - TAIWAN 14:00
No evidence the phone has actually left the warehouse yet.
Ordered about 11.45pm on the 30th, so very much one of the last orders!

    • +1

I'm in the same boat as you man ahaha. I ordered at 11:50pm, but it's at Taichung - Taiwan at 14:00. So excited! :)

      • +1

        Status updated to:
Monday, October 05, 2015 Shipment picked up TAICHUNG - TAIWAN 19:43

          Same ahahhah :D

        • Mine has been at the sort facility in Taipei since 1:48am :/

        • I have also ordered on 30th, but only got "Sent" Message through ebay, no tracking number.

Could you guys update your tracking info here so I know where my package is as well? haha g
          Thanks! :D

@ozdavo: Thanks for the updates of the shipment for people that orders on 30th Sept and shiped out on 5th Oct.
I also got shipped out on the 5th … but didn't get the tracking … :)

        • @ozdavo:

I ordered on 30th as well, but my package is stuck at:

"4 Arrived at Sort Facility TAIPEI - TAIWAN TAIPEI - TAIWAN 01:48"

          sigh -.-

        • +1

          @18:
It will be with mine. I also ordered a Sony Xperia (for the missus) from them on the 29th and it has a different tracking number but the tracking info is exactly the same.

        • @ozdavo: just to let you guys know, I ordered on 30th in the last hour when the black version became available again. I got my shipped message on Saturday morning and it was in Melbourne by Monday, in a effect world I would have had it Monday, but I'm in a non DHL area and my contractor is usually auspost (eParcel) so it's been sitting in sunshine since Monday. I know from experience that probably tomorrow it will get updated to my local area and then on the vam with driver. Then magically end up in the post office for me to collect on Thursday.
So looks like you're getting yours faster than mine.
At the end I am very pleased with qd_au handling the huge number of phones sold very efficiently; we are talking at least 700-800 (assuming some of what they show on the listing is from before the sale), if this was a local retail shop (jb, dick smith, Harvey) this would have gone south…
So let's see how's the phone's condition which from the comments seems like pretty good (just opened for DOA check, which is what u expect anyway!!!)

        • +2

          @OpayuOnam:
Yeah, looks like the organised into State, and shipped or the VIC ones together, & NSW together & QLD (mine) together, etc
I agree, looking at the ebay pages, they have sold some 1,700 G4's alone, and seem to be getting them out very quickly… (Gearbest should take note!)

  • Anyone interested in swapping a brown phone for black one? Mine was just marked as sent.. Melbourne area.

  • +1

I too received my brown phone this evening. It also came with a AU usb power adapter.

  • DHL updated mine as "Delivery attempted; recipient not home" at 17:34 today eventhough I was home at that time and there wasnt any delivery or consignment card. Anyone's status is the same? Is it just because it was after office hours and they couldnt deliver in time?

    • I'd be on the phone to DHL 1st thing tomorrow calling BS on the driver. My bet is he/she couldn't be bothered because of the time.

    • all good received it in the morning! brand new sealed

  • -6

I haven't received this but I already want to get the Samsung S6 Edge from JB Hi fi (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/214061). Since I'm going overseas in 60 days, claiming the GST on the S6 Edge would bring it down to $625. $200 of price difference with the G4 but local 2-year warranty. Is it worth it, guys? It could even be less than $200 dollar of difference if I can sell the G4 for say $500 brand new. Any thoughts?

    • +2

lol what's with all the negs? LG fanboys? buyers remorse?

$625 for the Galaxy S6 Edge aus stock is a killer deal. If you don't care about removable battery and 64gb is enough for you, go for it.

      • Yeah.. I was also confused. It's not that i had intended to buy this LG to re-sell for profit. It just happened there's a better phone with also an excellent price. If I do buy the S6 Edge then I will have to sell the G4. If someone wants to buy it for $500 (still a very good price), why not?

        • +1

I didnt neg you. But seems strange to sell it for a profit to fellow ozb members. Post it to Gumtree or eBay rather discussing here.

        • @Gaggy: I believe I didn't say that I'm going to sell it here.. Gumtree and eBay was first the two place I have in mind. My main question was simply whether it is worth upgrading to the edge with only $200 dollar of difference or COULD BE even less.

        • @skayper: Well You did not say you wont either :)
If someone need one, they might PM you.
Regarding your question, it depends if you like the big screen vs small screen on s6. Both are flagship phones, but S6 is much dearer and not worth over $200 if I was to choose between the two. Also both deals seems to be expired by now.

      • Because Samsung never listen to customer and try to copy *heavyCough iPhone
        Terrible decision

I mean when LG V10 out, LG does listen to what we really want, what is useful & practical not aesthetic or fancy. Mainstream android might changed from Samsung to LG because of devastating decision samsung make.

Then LG quality will depreciate like Samsung then HTC took over
Then HTC become LG then Sony become HTC
        phoneCeption

  • Mine has arrived this morning. Delivered by StarTrack.

Different from the other buyers here. It came sealed with a paper label and it was not opened prior.

    • Does it come with an extra back cover?

      • +1

nope, quadbeat 3 headphones included though.

        • How do they sound? Especially compared to earpods?

  • Well mine is supposedly out for delivery

  • +4

    Mine just arrived.

For anyone having issues with 5GHz Wi-Fi (ac, 5GHz n, a), note that this phone appears to be restricted to the Taiwanese channels. Speficially, you can't use Australian channels 36-52. I picked one in the 149-165 range to avoid DFS/TPC requirements. See the table here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels#5.C2.A0G…

    • +1

What does that mean in english?

      • +3

If you have an 802.11ac, or 5GHz-capable 802.11n, WiFi access point, and you can't see it on the G4, you need to go to the access point's settings and change it to one of the channels that Taiwan allows.

If you don't have those, or don't know what they mean, then ignore all this.

        • This is great information elusive. :D

It appears as though the iPad dhl app was lying to me. No delivery for me today. Oh well it should arrive tomorrow.

    • no wonder it didn't find any 5Gz Wifi access points…

      • Yea, was confusing for a bit. But it's all fine if you change the channel, which is easy enough on most access points and shouldn't have any negative effects.

        • I'm intenting to change only the 5GHz band not the 2.4GHz of course.

But I remember LG G3 was fine with Australian channels 36-52, what happened?

        • @neonlight:

If you looked at the page I linked, most countries have their own regulations on which channels are allowed. Taiwan does not allow 36-52. The G4 model in this post is from Taiwan and the software (currently V10c-TWN-XX) conforms to Taiwanese regulations.

        • @elusive:

Does this mean if you flash it with say international firmware then it will work fine? this is the firmware restriction? lol that sux, which firmware can we use to overwrite this on this grey import TWN model?

        • +6

@neonlight: Bootloader is locked. No easy way to flash with international. Might be able to do something with root, but uncertain - there's an (outdated) app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1982149. Still, I find it easier to just change the AP for now.

Edit: huh, apparently it's supposed to take it from the SIM… I'll move mine over from the old phone and see if it works.

Edit2: Ok, all (mostly) a false alarm. Looks like sticking an AU SIM in sets the WiFi country correctly. I was testing it without a SIM at first.

        • @elusive:

Interesting that you have to put a sim for it to pickup aus frequencies
