        • @elusive:

So it works with AU 5ghz frequency?

        • @jobski: Yep. Tested with channels 40 and 36, seems to be fine (if a bit weak on range, but that's a known issue).

  • Mine just arrived today and it is struggling to charge. I only get 400mah. Have tried three different charging cables and sockets and still the same problem. Anyone got any advice?

    • Looks like it charges much faster with the screen off. Listed as a known issue. Using a QC2.0 charger I get ~300mA with screen on and ~2100mA with screen off (can't measure voltage easily, unfortunately).

      • +1

Lol the voltage won't change its always 5v USB standard. But that's a bit disappointing at only 400mA.

        • +1

QC2.0 uses 9V and possibly 12V, on request from the device. It's not standard USB; it just reuses the same connectors.

        • Same problem here. my phone was working fine while initially charging for software updates, and 1 hour later, the phone was dead. Now I can't seem to charge it and boot the phone. Any advice.

        • @elusive:
Edit: my bad, thought qc2.0 only scaled up current.

      • So I'm using a QC 2.0 charger and get only 1040Mah charging. Is that QC 2.0 or normal charging speeds?

        • Depends on the charger. QC2.0 is primarily a protocol, allowing negotiation of 9V and 12V through the wire. Some chargers can provide a higher current (Tronsmart 5-port charger rated at 9V/2A or 12V/1.5A), while others are lower (e.g. Droid Turbo's OEM charger is (9V/1.6A or 12V/1.2A). Apparently current phones won't use that much anyway.

And then it also depends on how you're measuring the current, too. I'm still not entirely sure if Android reports the current at 9V or at 5V (after stepping down). My testing and the tests here suggest it's after stepping down.

That said, 1040mA (not mAh, mAh is a measure of capacity, mA is a measure of rate) is much slower than expected, at least when the screen is off and the phone's in standby. I'd suggest either your charger's bad or your cable is bad.

  • Anyone know how safe the adapter is? It seems to be missing the plastic insulators on most Australian plugs.

    • The AU one they included? Mine has the insulation around the prongs. However, I can't open it to check inside - the two screws come out easy but it seems to be glued shut. The OEM LG one doesn't have the insulation but that's standard China (/USA) plug design, and should be reasonably safe assuming it's genuine.

I'm just going to keep using my old Anker charger and new Tronsmart QC2.0 charger.

      • I didn't open it but on both my prongs there is no insulation. (Including the AU adaptor) It probably is safe to use but I'll stick with an old one.

        • Odd. Seems like they used at least two different types of AU chargers. Personally, I think it looks a bit too much like the dodgy cheapos to really trust, at least without taking it apart first to check.

  • Stll waiting here…shipment has status of "shipping on hold" in melbs for the past 12hrs…grrrr….not entirely sure what that means in DHL language

    • for me it meant its getting delivered by the courier next day

  • dealing with DHL is always nerve wracking for me.
where is the sense in leaving peoples expensive packages on their front door step while majority of people are at work for the whole day?
and transferring full responsibility for it to you.

  • +1

guys do anyone feel the device is slightly warm near back lens area on normal usage? I admit I had some background app install going but still felt that was unusual.

  • +1

Got mine today after a mishap with DHL who couldn't find my address because it wasn't on google maps =.=

Phone seems to working fine atm after NFC-ing from my LG G2.
*Side note, the adapter that came with the phone seems to charge like it's from a PC. Have continued to use my G2's charger instead with no issues.

    • I'll use my Qualcomm fast charger I got off amazon ages ago, because my previous phone had fast charging but didn't come with a fast charger. What cases do people recommend for wireless charging?

      • Just note that there's QC1.0 and QC2.0. A charger from "ages ago" might be only 1.0.

        • LG G4 is QC2.0?

        • +1

          @Orpheus:

Yeah and the charger I have is QC 2.0.

      • +1

I've ordered one of these which I plan to use inside the leather back

  • Unboxed mine today.

After tap and go to transfer all apps, when CPU is taxed during intensive computing, it gets a bit hot.

    A superb phone nonetheless.

A bit too thin and too light to my liking. With a heavy duty case, it will be just perfect.

I wish there is a G4 case that comes with a stylus holder. It would boost productivity significantly.

  • +4

Just unboxed mine yesterday, it's a fantastic phone considering the price we paid. I want to point out though that the adapter they supplied is garbage. I used an amp meter and it rated 0.8-1A. Use a normal standard adapter or get a qc 2.0 capable adaptor.

But hot damn it's a sexy phone imo.

    • I would use the included LG geniune adaptor with AUS plug if I don't have QC 2.0

  • Anybody getting invalid card? I've tried two sim cards so far..

    • mine works, optus sim

    • Mine works too and switches back and forth between 4G and 4G+.

  • +1

Just got mine. Nice smooth phone thus far. Only the odd occasional lag.

  • +1

To those who received your LG G4, what size is your battery? 2900mAh or 3000mAh?

It says 3000mAh in the description, but 2900mAh in the specification .__.

    The two different batteries:

    Credits to /u/xeron72548

    Thanks.

    • I think just different batches, they both show min 2900mah so I wouldn't worry too much.

    • The difference is the Typ (typical?) 3000. From what others have said, it's probably the same battery with slightly different rating/labeling - the average is probably just a little under 3000.

    • +1

3000mAh and I received mine yesterday.

    • I was expecting an 3000mah battery and (maybe stupidly) an AU spec LG charger. Sadly I got a 2900mah battery and a horrid AU plug adapter… And no spare back cover.
Great price, service and delivery time though.

  • +1

Bye bye Samsung and lagwiz.:P This phone is a lot faster and smoother than my note 4. I'll check the battery in a minute.:)

Received my phone yesterday and am really happy with it. I refunded the Kogan deal and jumped on this instead. An amazing phone at an amazing price.

  • So the question now is to root or not, considering there isnt a fully comprehensive tutorial out there. There has been issues with losing expat fuctions, and all sort of things. Whirlpool isnt helping either.. any thoughts on this? (I may have missed out on new posts as I type now so please forgive me)

    • I followed the manual root method to generate my own routed image. Worked perfectly, but not for the faint of heart. I can upload the image if you want to try flashing it directly, but even that isn't particularly easy for the tech-inept.

  • Kinda feels alot less user friendly then my nexus 5, anyone get the same feeling?

  • Just purchused this genuine cover which is cheap, you need to change to ebay malaysia on front page of ebay
    http://www.ebay.com.my/itm/GENUINE-ORIGINAL-LG-G4-QUICK-CIRC…

    • how much price you paid in AUD. Will it change the back cover as well? Reviews are pretty less for a store to be trusted.

  • I just received my G4. Ordered on 30 Sep. Really nice customer service and impressed delivery. Thumbs up!

  • +1

The only neg i have is battery life seems to drain fast.

    • Yea, the screen seems to eat the battery. Standby seems like it'll last a while. Good for those who don't constantly use their phones.

      • Yeah I suspect some days I'll have to carry around a 2nd battery to get through the day. Still happy with the phone. :)

        • I'm already carrying one of those Xiaomi packs around, but I haven't had to use it much.

  • +1

Mine is 'on hold' in Brisbane since 9am this morning. Hopefully tomorrow, although it says Friday for estimated delivery.

Those that have recieved their phones, are they coming fully charged and ready to go?

Is it still best practice to give it a full charge before turning on?

    Cheers.

    • +1

It's probably been transferred to aus post. Call them and get the new aus post tracking number and find out where it is.

      • FYI, you can add a single 'J' to the start of your item number (this is different than your waybill, it can be found under the expandable menu) and you have the auspost tracking number ;)
PS. it doesn't always go to Auspost, depends on different variables :D

    • +1

I got mine with something like 40-50% charge.

I haven't considered "full charge before turning on" to be particularly important since li-ion became popular (oh, about a decade ago?). Heck, even NiMH doesn't care much. Worst case would be calibration of the time remaining calculations, but I wouldn't worry too much about that usually.

  • Still waiting on my tracking to be updated

  • +2

I've just noticed that the black leather lg g4 I've ordered has the wrong back camera/button colour, it's bronze coloured instead of black. My box was sealed though and the phone still had the factory plastic lcd cover and side protectors stuck on so it looked untampered. Does anyone else have the wrong coloured back?

    • +1

Not too sure what's going on but this and this one match up with what we got. This one does not.

Perhaps just different markets, as suggested here:

In Europe, I'm likely to get a black leather cover with a spare gold cover and gold buttons.

Looks to be a little over $30 if you really want to swap. Which is a pretty crazy price… might be better off waiting until someone breaks their phone and buy it for parts, but that could take a while.

    • Ugh, I THIS ^^^ was pretty much the first thing I noticed when I opened the box and I was pretty annoyed! Pretty much the ONLY reason I didn't get a brown was because I wanted the more neutral grey buttons and was planning to buy a separate brown back for it :| No I am stuck with black back and gold buttons…
Emailed them with picture of the phone I had and the photo of their listing this was their response:

      Hello,

Please be kindly noted that the photo we are using in our listing are from official LG and color difference due to lighting is unavoidable and this judgment varies from person to person. We are wondering if you have any other concerns?
In any case we apologize for the inconvenienced caused by LG's photos.

      Regards,
      Malina
—-> Pretty sure it is not a matter of lighting but what can we do :(

Nonetheless, I am quite happy with the phone so far apart from the questionable battery life (yet to go through a few cycles), one single stuck pixel only visible on full brightness-black screen and the squeaky back buttons. aaaargh!!!
Performance much better than G2, and god I am enjoying the SD Card :D UX has improved a lot as well (pretty much most the stuff I had to get through xposed and other hacks are already implemented there).

But yeah coming from a THL 4000 (5:30-10 hours SoT) I am not sure if I can live with less than 3 hours, it makes my heart cringe how fast the percentage drops! :D

      • They got back to me again and here is their reply:

        Hi

After further checking with LG Taiwan, they advised the back button colors are actually the same for leather series. Here is a photo for your reference: https://pic.pimg.tw/dacota/1433091225-2074518439.jpg
LG suspect the grey button you saw should come in plastic black, not leather black.

I'm wondering if you have any further queries or any concerns?

        Regards
        Ella

  • So I recieved my tracking just now, it was sent this morning. Pretty poor since others have already recieved their item or are just about to. It was marked sent on Monday so they weren't exactly truthful. Eta Monday.

    • Can I ask where you received tracking advice, via an email or somewhere on ebay? Mine is showing sent but has nil tracking. Thanks.

      • +1

It shows up just under the estimated delivery date on eBay purchase history. They can take a couple days to add the tracking info.

      • +1

        Just checked eBay purchases

  • +1

Received mine this morning. Will play around when back from office. Almost 8 days to deliver is impressive taken so many orders and delay due to the typhoon.

  • Is anyone having issues with the charger? 1. It says its being charged through USB rather than AC, and 2. In 1 hour of charging, its only gone up by 15%. I'm not sure if this is because its the first charge, but I highly doubt it.

    Thanks.

      • I tried using an alternative adapter, but it still charges really slowly. When I switch to a Note 4 charger, it says "AC" and it charges heaps quicker! :\

        • Still waiting for mine but looks like the supplied adaptor is pretty poor going by other people's comments

        • +2

@sparkyglo: Yes, its just a cheap chinese ebay usb charger afterall. Unless this is your first ever phone/electronic device, throw it in the bin and use one of your other chargers.

  • I got my phone yesterday. Setting it up. I got this charger: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/151721141173?_trksid=p2057872.m27…

For QC2.0. I'll do some testing and report back.

Tried that charger on my oneplus one and it was reporting it would take 5 hours to fully charge. When I switched to a samsung S4 charger it went down to 1.5 hours.

    Odd.

    • I went with this one and it actually came the morning before the phone (TNT shipping). Seems to charge faster than my older non-QC2.0 Anker charger - QC2.0 measures ~2100mA on the phone and non-QC2.0 measures ~1400mA, screen off. There are some cheaper versions too.

OPO doesn't support QC2.0 at all, though it shouldn't have been any slower than the S4 charger.

      • Hi what method do you use to see the current in mA charging against the phone.

I'm trying to figure out how to tell if that charger http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/151721141173 is giving a QC 2.0 charge to this LG G4

        • I'm using "Battery" by MacroPinch: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.macropinch…

          GSam Battery Monitor also works.

I've heard lots of recommendations for "Ampere".

As far as I know, these only show charge current, not voltage. And it seems the current they show is after stepping down or maybe the current going into the battery. Also keep in mind that you'll only see max current with screen off (I turn off the screen, plug in the charger, and it shows the higher rate for a a few seconds).

    • Does that ROCK charger do QC 2.0 charge for your G4? I got the same, can't tell

  • +4

I'm a bit suspect on mine, I think it is a refurb or something similar.

The white "do not accept seal or sticker" was in tact but if you carefully peel that off the clear security sticker with the black lines through it was obviously previously cut.

    • +1

      Mine is the same.
Also, The barcode on the red LG sticker (on the bottom of the red box) is different to the barcode coded directly onto the end of the red box.

      • Yeah I just noticed that.

Are people concerned about "refurbs" or broken seals?

        • I definitely am concerned. I'm also going to have a close look at the charger and see if it's genuine. Unhappy with the battery size, AU plug adapted, non standard apps. I'll do a little more playing and digging, but might be sending this back.

        • +1

I'm pretty sure they've been opened to change the language; I doubt Taiwan phones normally come in English by default.

As for refurb… Dunno. Mine has a little dent just below the screen.

        • @elusive:
This refurb theory seems very unlikely as what are the chances that ONE seller, qd which has quite a reputation ended up with 2K+ (from estimates on this thread) stock and are able to supply such size with ease the way that they are.

        • @flux: I think most of the uncertainty comes from the wide variation in quality received. Some people with different preinstalled apps, some with opened packaging and removed protective film. Different power adapters provided. I wouldn't rule out some being refurbs, though I agree that it's unlikely that they could satisfy what looks to be 1500+ orders with pure refurbs - those aren't that common.

    • I believe they open the box to 1. Add in the AU charger which I doubt comes standard. 2. Change language to English. They probably also have a tech check the phone for any faults before sending it off.

      • I didn't get an AU charger, I got an AU adapter plug, and it was not in the G4 box.
Did you get a genuine AU plug LG charger?
And the phone should either prompt for language or location during the setup.

        • I got what looks like a typical cheapie charger (not pin adapter) outside the phone box. Odd that they're shipping out different stuff. Inside was a genuine Chinese-plug LG charger.

Prompts for language, yea, but it defaults to English (Australia). I wonder if it's doing some location detection somehow (without a SIM card, mind).

        • @elusive:

I got the same, not an AU adapter plug but a charger.

    • Mine is same as well. But the battery seems new, but the screen protector is not there on the phone and I could see few finger prints on the screen. When I switched on the phone it came with setup with Australian English selected. Australian plug is of very poor quality.
Ebay description did not explain if the phones were unlocked or opened prior sending. Not sure if they are refurbished or new ones.

  • I just got this info from LG support (took 5 days to get it from the engineering department) about the specs of the MicroSD slot on the phone:

    Class: UHS-1
    Bus Speed: SDR50 50MB/s, SDR104 100MB/s

Hopefully this will help some others choose their MicroSD card of choice.

    • I tested 64.73MB/s read and 16.28MB/s write with A1 SD Bench on this card. Based on the reviews there, that seems about right.

  • +1

The main issue I have with this phone is the battery. Fully charged by around 10 am today, now down to 49% 8 hours later.

    • I have to agree. I came from the Sony Ultra T2 which had a brilliant battery life.

    • Yeah battery life doesnt seem that great. I did buy a spare though. Will battery life improve dramatically after a few recharge cycles?

  • I have been reading whrlpool forums e.g. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2425235&p… and many are installing a custom rom / rooting their phone. Just wondering people's thoughts on this, if there is definitely an advantage and if it is worth doing? Thanks (still waiting for my phone)

    • +1

Only the bootloader from the EU version of the G4 can be unlocked. Therfore you will not be able to install a custom rom on the G4.
However you can root your phone. As a starting point I would recommend http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4

    • +1

I've rooted already. Used this guide substituting a Linux VM rather than dual booting. Seems to have worked perfectly and I used it (with Titanium Backup) to restore to the new phone.

YMMV and IMO you should only root if you find yourself wanting to do something that requires it. Don't root for the sake of rooting and then look for benefits.

  • I ordered Red and Black unit in separate order. As per ebay both were shipped around same time (last Friday). Black one is delivered yesterday, tracking number was provided for black unit. Red unit order is not showing any tracking on ebay yet but I was still expecting both my units delivered in same shipment but only black one arrived. So I sent message to seller asking for tracking for red unit as well. Seller hasn't replied me yet so I contacted DHL today asking tracking status for second unit. They gave me second tracking number and told me that there is no update in the system, as per system it's still in Taiwan (DHL status - 1. Shipment information received, Location -TAICHUNG - TAIWAN). Is it possible that seller has not sent my second unit yet and only hit 'item shipped' button on ebay without really shipping it? I'm really getting worried now as I'm going overseas in next week and need this second unit delivered before that. Has anyone got any similar experience?

    • I ordered one red phone, marked as sent 2/10, nil tracking, emailed asking for tracking number over 24hrs ago, still no response.

      • Looks like we are in same boat..

      • I am on the same boat here. Order was apparently shipped out a week ago but still nothing and no tracking number. This is my second purchase with them and my first G4 (bought 3 months ago) came with incorrect tracking and I missed out on taking it overseas with me and this one said that estimated delivery was lastest by 9/10. Have messaged the seller a few times but no response whatsoever. Just spoke to DHL and the seller has only created the paperwork for the order and hasnt even shipped it yet bit misleading I would say.

    • For me its the same at the moment. Also red version.

Additionally, I ordered it into a Parcel Locker. Hope that works out with DHL…

      • You're going to have so much fun, it never works well for startrack (and thus is assume the same for dhl) I remember for startrack the website said they got to the site and could not access the locker. I completely stopped using them after that since its impossible to tell who is going to be delivering the item before providing an address.

        • argh… :-(

Ideally, the seller should know if it works or not and notify us buyers before shipping if its ok or not.

      • UPDATES - Seller hasn't replied me yet to 2 of my messages in last 2 days but there is some updates on my red mobile delivery on DHL site now based on tracking number DHL provided me.. My red unit has been now processed in Taiwan and estimated delivery is now coming Tues which is before my overseas trip :)

For those who don't have received tracking number - you can try contacting DHL and ask them tracking number based on Name and address.. I got my tracking number from DHL, seller hasn't provided me it yet for my red mobile shipment.
