Hi all, posting a very high spec laptop that reduces from $974 + shipping to $788.16 shipped using 20% off with MasterPass, and I got 25% off shipping to Brisbane (dropped from $11.95 to $8.96). Forgot to use cashback otherwise it would have been cheaper!!

I've been hunting laptop deals and had my eye on a few at 00.com.au, then was a bit disappointed that this other deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/213094) was posted before I made up my mind. It got OzBargained and I missed out. However I found a very similar deal and bought a similar P50t instead. As mentioned in the other post, it's a desktop replacement type machine, not meant to be carried around with you every day.

Here are the detailed specs, and a comparison of this and the similar deal is below.

Overall it seems a slightly newer model than the other deal. The processor is newer and slightly better, and the graphics card is also a bit better (though the nvidia/AMD switch means performance will vary by game/program). It has "ac" wireless which the other didn't have either. Windows 8.1 vs Windows 8 preinstalled is a bonus … less updates to do: Can't update to Windows 10 unless the 8.1 update, and a bunch more Windows updates are applied first! (Trust me, I've wasted hours recently updating a Win8 machine to Win 10)

The downsides are that there is no bluray or SSD cache with the HDD. Cheap SSDs are easily found on Ozbargain though, and the 1TB can live in a USB 3.0 caddy, or you can probably take out the DVD drive and have SSD + HDD combo!

Hope this helps anyone looking for a good laptop above the entry level budget machines.

  • I think if I was choosing between the two P50t deals I would get this one…M265X seems to be better in key crucial aspects than the 745M, and of course AC wireless is a boon (losing bluray is a bummer but hardly a real concern for most people I think - and the lack of SSD in the 1tb hdd is also irrelevant as I would be putting an SSD in straight away anyway!)

Shame I can't justify at all a new gaming laptop otherwise this would be a hard deal to pass up (and I'd be a bit annoyed at jumping on the first P50t deal :p )

    • I'm kinda annoyed that it's not for me. But I've got more than enough computer tech at home. I'll be glad when I visit the in laws and see it, knowing they've got a beast, rather than some lame budget machine they would have been hoodwinked into getting if they went to a store on their own.

  • Thanks OP, I grabbed this a minute ago, surprised it didn't sell out as a few others I had my eye on disappeared quickly.

    • No worries mate, hope you enjoy it. Lots of bargains at the moment, must be helping this one survive. For interest sake I adjusted quantity to 30 in my cart and it didn't reject it. I tried the same on another model while browsing and I could only add one. Seems like there was good stock of this one, hopefully enough for anyone who wants one.

  • I was after a quad core machine with semi-decent graphics for very casual gaming, this is by far the cheapest.

I've never bought refurb before, I assume it's like factory fresh, wherein it's loaded with the OS + bloatware…

Do you plan to upgrade to Win10? Or replace the DVD bay with an SSD in a caddy?

  • I'll upgrade it to Windows 10. It will be less of a shock than Windows 8 for my in laws. Not sure about the DVD bay, will probably leave it as is. They probably won't feel the need for SSD speed!

    • Did you get your machine yet? Mine arrived today, it's immaculate, not a single blemish or cosmetic imperfection anywhere! Very happy that it's virtually brand new. Screen looks great & I had totally forgotten it's a touch screen. It's very light too!

      • Sounds great! Nice to know that they're in good condition.

I'm so annoyed that I don't have it yet … I missed delivery today. If they'd sent it out straight away I would have had it last week - sent to my home address while on holidays. But I'm back at work today and missed it.

They delayed my order because they wanted to do a security check. Ordered Monday night, then I missed the first call on Tuesday. Called back and got their answering machine. Didn't get another call until two days later, just missed the call by a second, phone back and got their answering machine again. Was getting annoyed, then saw an email from them as well, saying to call. Called again, no luck. Finally an hour or two later, I got a call. "We know you're an existing customer, but it's been over a year since your last order, so we're doing a security check". Confirmed name and address, and was done. What a waste of time. If I was a new customer, probably wouldn't have been an issue.

Hopefully will get it tomorrow or Thursday.

        • That's bad lucky, I had a call too and managed to take it first time, it was verifying I had made the purchase. When I was told Toll is the carrier I wasn't hopeful it would be here any time soon, but it appears the hold up was at oo.com.au as the item was purchased Tuesday night but not shipped until Friday afternoon. Toll got it to me today (luckily I was at home on an RDO) around midday.

Fingers crossed your will turn up soon. I have a challenge ahead of me uninstalling the copious amount of bloatware it comes with & learning how to use W8.1
