I need ceiling paint, would they give out ceiling paint ?

    • +2

With 1 litre? What are you doing, your toilet ceiling?

      • 1 litre from me, 1 litre from my wife and a couple of litres from members of my family. 4 litres should be enough for few toilets.

    • ceiling paint (flat white) is very cheap anyway. Only $20/tin, a fraction of the cost of good washable low-sheen wall paint.

  • Time to paint the town red… :)

  • +1

good one, I've been painting all day today, need a bit more!

Be aware, sample pots are generally (always?) a lesser product than normal. Don't contain the same features/formulas/content.

      • +32

Makes sense that they wouldn't want you to sample the good stuff.
Otherwise you may be inclined to buy more.

        • Guessing there was a deal on ignorance recently.

I'm not sure what planet the voters are on… but they all need to do some research.

Being 1 litre, this may be an exception to the rule.
They're generally colour samples - Not paint sample, as such.

        • @Utopian:

Sorry I do not understand as this is an extract from the Buckscoop site :-

        • @Kevan2: I'm also confused. There's no mention of colour in the OP. If anything they are tint samples. I for one will be wearing my ignorance hat when I pick up my sample pot.

@Utopian: your explanation is closest to the shop assistants'. I also wonder Blue that it is worth it to get it. maybe you can give us some more explanation what are thedifference between A colour sampler and paint.

Woolworth group are absorbing 200+ million every year loss from Master venture since its opening. Yes you heard it right, they never turn a profit on Masters venture. It's a gamble hopefully will pay off for them in the future & very important to keep Bunnings on their toes. I tend to shop at Masters whenever I can now to support the competition.

"Security, we have a corporate tool in the Masters free pot of paint Deal."

C'mon, you DON'T help the world or competition in a market by supporting a DIM competitor.

Only GOOD Competition helps the community.

If Woolies' group is prepared to lose money on a sinking ship,
might it be owned by a family member or maybe by a mafia front?

Or is there a way Woolies can pay less tax by letting $$ leak
out of this sinker balance anouter group member's high profit?

TIP: The kind of Competition you WANT to support has LOW prices,
Excellent service & stuff you want on the shelf when you walk in.

        • @IVI:

Or is there a way Woolies can pay less tax by letting $$ leak
          out of?

Maybe Grant Obrien is on the "Negative gearing" hype train.

        • yeah masters loss, the other businesses under woolies umbrella have to bear the burden as well to keep the profit up

        • @IVI:
And a website that's designed to 'not' turn the customer off from ordering everytime. That sums up my experience with Masters hardware.
A website is the 1st port of call nowadays for many local shoppers. A website like Woolies online (the new one), or Master's may prove damaging in the long term, like badass conning and cheating, or offending customers can do, which is commonplace nowadays, IMO.

Masters opened recently in Adelaide. Their car park is maybe 40% full on a weekend. Finding a parking space at the half dozen Bunnings stores on a weekend is often a waiting game.

From what I can see locally, Masters suffers from:

        1. Being about 10 years too late to the market
        2. Terrible selection of plants. Any Bunnings store has at least double. Mile End probably has 5x the selection.
        3. Siting the first Adelaide store in a very old neighbourhood.

I have never seen the self service checkouts open at Masters. Been there more than a dozen times at various hours of the day. the store is never busy enough to justify it.

On the plus side, Masters often offers 10% off (plus an extra 5% off with eGift) so you can buy items that often are identically priced much cheaper than at Bunnings.

        • +1

See? Most of us are impressed by Service & Product availability,
          if not great prices.

Let Masters die, if it doesn't change how it does business.

        • @IVI:
          Totally Agree…
When I looking for staff for asking question and tips to using the product, it takes 15 min to locate one staff. And what he did was reading out the instruction on the package……….
I totally think the CEO of Masters has some problem in his head.

      • +3

I went to Masters today with the intention of buy 6 extensions leads of various sizes.. 2x 2mtr, 2x 3mtr, 2x5 mtr.. they had no 2mtr cables.. so I thought, bugger it, I'll get 4x3 mtrs coz I didn't really want to spend another 15 mins driving to bunnings..

So I get to the self service checkout so that I can use the 10% coupon.. I go to scan my stuff, and it says.. UNEXPLAINED ITEM IN THE BAGGING AREA. PLEASE WAIT FOR AN ATTENDANT. So I look around and there's one guy on the checkout with about 5 people lined up..

Frig this.. I dropped everything and went to bunnings.. Every time I've gone to Masters, they don't have what I want so I end up going to bunnings.. I really can't say that I'll ever go back there even if it is 5 mins up the road..

        • Funny the Masters that I have been to are good if ask. One store their plumber shwed me ways to save money and buy less stuff. That service heading in right directions.

Generally I need advice not just direction on how to get there.

Both Masters and Bunnings fail in that they do not have signs up saying 'you may need this to make the job easier see vidio, leaflet or staff' eg bought a cistern would have been a lot easier with flexibe inlet hose/pipe instead of trying to retro fit. 20 min job … not 90 min and a stripped thread .. the correct staff put me straight when I went back to ask if I should return item because .. as above.

        • They seem to not have alot of well trained staff. Like I get it, Bunnings have semi retired grand pas and mas working there, but at least they pretend they know what they are talking about and you can tell they have done abit of DIY. Masters just have kids! Even the guy selling kitchen cabinets, I think I know more about how things go together than they do. The 10% thing is also a double edged sword, you get a spike in the traffic, and then nothing during all other times. I don't even buy stuff from Masters anymore unless there's 10%. Where as if I see something at Bunnings, I just buy it, cause I know that's gonna be the price every single day. I like how Masters keeping Bunnings honest, now they actually greet you and be polite, but seriously lift your game woolworth!!

        • they try to keep the loss at minimum by doing budget cutting perhaps. hence, less staffs to work in their roster, more burden for them to serve customers , leads to less satisfaction to work. woolies keep loosing it then at both sides.

        • @Kevan2:
Sounds like your doing stuff that you are not only not qualified to do, but also have no knowledge to do. Bunnings probably should not have instructed you on how to do your own plumbing. Hopefully nothing floods and your insurance company doesn't ask who installed your cistern.

        • @masuta:

thanks. Will not go into any thing that is remotely needing qualified licensed work, any work that could put anyone at risk or any finished work that couldn't be checked over by the professional as the above was.

@TA ….. thanks for sharing this as I require paint for a small job, should do it nicely!

    You had me at "FREE"

  • I'm assuming it's only water based paint?

  • Thanks OP.

  • +1

Is that a coupon or an ad?
I cant really see it… its so small, and I cant see anything on masters site about it.

  • Op thanks and others - I do not know this USA brand -Sherwin-Williams -

Is it as good as the Masters Diamond paint - single cover paint. Or is it a designer paint for special use.

  • do i need to print anything or just ask them at masters?

    • Past samples that I have collected from…… either ask or pick up sample can and ask for tinting. Due to over use in some stores sample time will not be given to minor children (knee biters) bigger ones maybe .

  • +1

2 cans of paint from 4 or 5 stores, yep that should cover the painting for free. Nice :)

    • +3

or a large can for $50 and half a day less running around.

has anyone actually got this 'freebie' yet?
besides the little thumb nail at the top, I cannot find any info on it.
Cant see it in teh catalogue (SA) or on the website.

    • +1

The 'voucher' is on the front page of their catalogue that started yesterday.

    • -1

Yeah, I got 2 yesterday from 2 different stores but got 2 today from 1 store.
The staff member was kinda annoyed when I asked for it. He said that people were coming in today asking for 10 pots of the same color.
He also said that that they will run out tonight and once they are gone, they are gone. Not going to get more before the deal is finished.

  • Sherwin Williams is only new into the country. The bad thing is that you have to choose one of the Sherwin Williams colours. They will not colour match other paint brands.

    • I've got three different samples totalling 2 litres now… all different brands and used the sample cards to "colour match" :)

Once I have 4 litres of similar colours they'll all be getting mixed up into one tin then getting used to do some stuff in the garage… hope they don't curdle when mixed together lol

Not fussed if I'm never able to match it in the future, as long as there is enough to get me 2 coats of the same colour with a little bit left over for potential future touch ups then I'll be happy!

  • Thanks OP. I got a freebie 1 litre sample of low sheen acrylic paint tinted in 'Violet Obsession' (from a choice of over 1,000 colours).

  • Out of Stock Sunshine. Maybe new stock on Monday.

  • Anyone managed to get one in WA?

    • No stock at my local (Joondalup) store.
Would really like to know if any of the specials they advertise to tens or hundreds of thousands of people (via catalogues in the mail) have a quantity greater than 5 in any store … or any to begin with. Surely before putting specials on TV (Friday night) or on the front page of the catalogue that they might consider checking to see if they actually have the items in any/sufficient quantity.

      • Checked forrestdale.. They told me they're out of sample too.. Don't know how true is that… They told me other store haven't got them too

  • I went to the Canberra store today to grab one but they've run out. Thanks anyway OP - I'll be quicker in future ;)

    • +1

I went first thing yesterday (Friday) morning and they said their stock hadn't come in yet, so I think they might be telling porky pies. I noticed during the last promotion of free paint they had a sign up saying they had no stock. I am thinking the Canberra store does not like participating in these promotions.
