Use Chrome and let it do the conversion automatically. I have Chrome installed for just that convenience :)

Great tip! I was using Google Translator lol.

@tightarse: Maybe it is important to note that currently, 1EUR = 1.60AUD. I went to France with my AUD and I cried every time I was taking out cash due to the exchange rate haha

          @akastyl13:

I often purchase items from amazon uk and fr. The price that you are seeing in euro is not exactly what you are paying. At checkout, usually 20% is taken out from the price, because they waived the vat (tax), since the purchase is shipped overseas. It doesn't make it lots cheaper with the conversion rate that's currently going on, but it lessen the blow a bit

        • @readannie: They add delivery which roughly amounts to 15% of the price on an average. So yeah, the savings are quite minimal, unless something is advertised at a ridiculously low price by the automated system, which is a rarity. Amazon is pretty shrewd in this regard. In countries, where there is a VAT exemption, it gobbles up the benefit by having exorbitant delivery charges. Amazon UK charges 10 pounds/shipment, whereas it is US$5 for Amazon US.

        • @prince22:

Yes, unfortunately their shipping is very expensive, you can't choose to have cheaper shipping option, like amazon US. It's like they forced you to pay Amazon US express shipping. I suppose, the only positive way you can look at it is, it's very fast shipping, you can have your item in 4-5 business days, as thats what it took normally for my orders to arrive on their regular shipping of 5- 10 business days delivery.

        • @akastyl13:
On the plus side, the listed price is including 20% GST which gets taken off the total on checkout.

So a listed price of €100 costs you about $133.

          Plus shipping.

EDIT: That was a bit late. Never mind.

        • @readannie: Even that is not the case. You still get standard shipping (they choose to call it Priority), but pay inflated prices. Their equivalent of Amazon US priority is called Lightning.

          Fast (12 to 15 days) 10,00 EUR / shipment € 1.50 [ONLY FOR DVDS/BLURAYS]
          AmazonGlobal Priority (10 to 14 days) 12.00 EUR / shipment + € 6.00 / kilo no
          AmazonGlobal Lightning (3-5 days) € 30.00 / € 10.00 + sending / kilo no

On a side note, ever since I got my delivery fee refunded from Amazon Spain (the delivery was delayed by 2 days, even though it was not guaranteed delivery, they obliged), iParcel has been bloody quick. I'm getting parcels from Amazon US, UK delivered in under 5 business days, even though the delivery is not due until a week later. Earlier, it used to be 1-2days before scheduled delivery date.

@prince22: It's on and off for me. There were times when I got things quickly from Amazon US. Sometimes I paid the cheapest shipping cost and Amazon decided to send them through DHL, so I got it very quickly. When shipment is through I-Parcel, it could be quick sometimes it could be slow. The problem sometimes lies on forwarding the parcel to Fastway. Fastway courier is slower than Aust Post. I-Parcel used to frwd parcels to Aust Post, not anymore.

As to FR and UK shipments, they have always been fast for me: 4 -5 business days.

      • Amazon has introduced (in beta) native English ability to Amazon Germany so hopefully they do it for the French site.

Le grill? What the hell is that?

  • Hmmmmm. Think we should be able to combine this with the AmEx connect 15% deal as well?

    One of the terms is:
Offer applies only to products sold and shipped by Amazon.com through so might not work. Dunno.

    • It won't. They are very separately run and managed - same offers do not apply across all of Amazon.
