L-Glutamine 500g $24.99 at Chemist Warehouse

80

INC Glutamine unflavoured 500g $24.99. Claims to be 100% pure Glutamine.

I have Crohn's disease and I use this stuff for its beneficial effect on the intestinal lining. It's also used by body builders and athletes as it supposedly supports muscle repair.

I usually get the 1kg bucket of Jarrow formulas L-Glutamine from iherb (currently about $53.45 AUD + delivery). Before now I hadn't seen it sold locally(brick-n-mortar store) at a competitive price.
Chemist Warehouse currently have a 500g bucket for $24.99.

I have never tried this brand before so can't vouch for its quality. But for the low price and convenience of being able to grab it from the store I thought it was worth a shot. The brand is INC which appears to be exclusive to Chemist Warehouse. I don't know what the regular price is but the label says RRP $79.99.

Thanks. I'll keep this in mind next time I order. However, by locally I meant a store that I can walk into.

Do you feel any better with your crohns when on it?

I take a bunch of other stuff as well so it's hard to say which is working but I haven't taken any prescription meds for crohn's for 3.5 years and I remain symptom free. Something is working so I'm not messing with it.

L-Glutamine is supposed to improve a function of your immune system. I've read studies where they give it to severe burn victims for a more stable recovery.

        • I think thats via needle not powder

        • @Belv: yeah wasn't sure of the delivery, i only read the cover of the journal.

      • Mind sharing what 'bunch of other stuff ' includes?? I am a victim of Mr.Chron for a year now, comes and goes in phases, on prescription meds at the moment, keen to give them up for something natural.

        • Hopefully, the ulceration hasn't resorted to the doctors having to remove sections of your large intestine yet. You have an auto-immune disease and you are fairly new to it so I hope you have been made to understand about managing expectations. Very few people get better from Crohn's and even less do if they stop taking prescription meds looking for something natural. I would think it is the sort of thing where you would listen to your doctor and only use alternative therapies as a complementary treatment. I suppose we can start looking for colostomy bag bargains if that really is your prerogative, though.

        • I actually agree with caiphus. Follow your doctors directions. If your symptoms come and go in phases then you are not in remission. When I made the decision to stop my meds I had already been in remission for more than 2 years. I have had 2 surgeries when I was first diagnosed in 2000 so I am well aware of the risk I am taking by going off script.
That said, you also shouldn't just take the doctors medication and expect that to be a magic pill while ignoring all the lifestyle factors that effect the disease. Do your own research and work out what triggers your symptoms. For the first 10 years of my diagnosis I was sure that it was random and that nothing I ate or drank effected it. I now realise that was very untrue. Heres a good place to start.
