Have to survive. The war's not over.

The Ensign is a prequel to the viral #1 hit: A Dark Room.

This game is extremely difficult. Brutally difficult. Throw your device across the room difficult. You have been warned, human. Death awaits.

Be sure to try Amir's new experience: A Noble Circle…. or else the "&" will hunt you down.

For those of you that don't know the game, it's an adventure game. You can map out the environment by exploring it. The map is shown as ASCII (dots, W, & and other symbols). Every time you move, you use water. You need water and wits to survive the hostile environment. If you haven't played A Dark Room, play that first - because the back story of The Ensign contains spoilers for A Dark Room … and A Dark Room is better (IMHO), although both are good. I finished both games, but I won't say I did it without a little trickery :)

This game is tough. It's not "throw phone across the room" tough because most people won't bother getting that much into the game. It's hard from the first moment.

  • Played a dark room a while back and wondered if all those reviewers were taking the piss. I probably played it for an hour or so before deciding life is too short.

It reminds me of the sort of game I used to program into my old Amstrad from a magazine. I kind of liked stuff like "The Pawn" back 30 years ago but I'm amazed people are still playing this sort of thing. Obviously appeals to people who like to roll a dice or something, which is cool if you are into that sort of game.
