Damn I don't have AmEx, good price otherwise.

      Damn I don't have AmEx

Even petrol stations are now charging an extra fee for AmEx… I hardly use mine.
Not worth having one unless you can get it fee free…

  • $250 + 3% conversion fees = ~ $260

AN extra $30 for local warranty … maybe ?

      Yes.
If you have a 28degrees card, you can try this trick to save a few more bucks, posted by glowstix047: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/213540#comment-3094101

      • I meant 3% for AMEX which is their standard rate i think

With 28 degrees mastercard , you would be paying $204 USD

It's buying a Amazon gift card, say US$170 with 28 degrees.
Pay remaining balance with AMEX, the discount still applies.

    • CPUs rarely die unless you're pushing the shit out of them then there's a risk. :)

  • Intel's RRP is $202 so this CPU isn't on sale (current price is $204). Since this deal is 15% off from AmEx, can you please explain what is that deal. In other words, does that deal also apply to other items or other websites? How do we find out more about 15% off?

  • Link shows $US204.99 + $US6.90 Shipping & Import Fees Deposit to Australia Details

    • Discount applies when you select AMEX as payment method.

  • I don't have AMEX and I think a lot of people, like me, don't like their dearer fees. Cheap money is here is stay for a little while yet, so why are they so much more expensive? Can I say AMEX sucks?? It always has, always will? It is just useful as an emergency card.

    • Many people don't pay an annual fee for their AMEX and the rewards are often excellent value - e.g. spending $30 at Woolworths and receiving $10 statement credit.

Merchants opting to use AMEX and charge a surcharge or refusing to accept it doesn't mean AMEX sucks, perhaps some of that view should be focused on the merchants themselves.

      • Merchants opting to use AMEX and charge a surcharge or refusing to accept it doesn't mean AMEX sucks, perhaps some of that view should be focused on the merchants themselves.

Why do you think the merchants are doing that? Just to make your life hard? Amex is charging them ridiculous fees. That's why many merchants will just refuse to wear the cost themselves.

    • Amex also have very helpful customer service in stark contrast to most financial service providers. They cost more but offer more. If you're clever you get a free one (or a cost effective one like the one with a free flight) and only use them where there's no fees or a deal on…

  • What's the hate with AMEX? I've been using this card for a year and I love it

I think it's more the fact a lot of people don't have one, and the deal is based on the Amex discount…… so a bit like a deal for people with blue eyes and blonde hair…… excludes a lot of people. has the deal been cheap cpu and a better discount with Amex it might have gathere more enthusiasm.

I get a free Amex from Westpac BUT it doesn't get certain discounts….. so some of these deals are only for Amex issued by Amex not Amex issued by banks. hope people are aware of the difference and if their Amex gets them the discount or not.

all the Westpac Amex is good for is extra loyalty points, no Amex exclusive features like those issues by Amex directly

  • Eh.. this deal just makes me think I'd rather have a 4690k for $30 US more.

You don't get DDR4 or a few benefits of the new chipset but turn up the OC and it's a lot faster.

  • How many people actually have a LGA 1151 motherboard?

    • +1

good find. You would also need a new motherboard with this setting you back another $150 - $200 for a decent one

      • also new ram depending on what board you buy that is why i asked… i am running haswell LGA 1150 i have only had this board for about a year…
