Adonit Jot Mini/Jot Pro/Jot Flip Stylus. $22/$28/$32 @ Harvey Norman Thomastown VIC

10

I came across these whilst looking for something to replace my dodgy ebay rubber tip stylus. For those that don't know, these have a plastic disc tip and are more accurate, good for writing on capacitive screens.

Adonit Jot Mini $22, save $15.
Adonit Jot Pro $28, save $17.
Adonit Jot Flip $32, save $18.

Discounts didn't show until they were scanned.
Not sure if this is Aus wide, but worth a post as I couldn't find them cheaper online.

These may scratch your screen, since it's a hard plastic disc that touches the screen. Buyer beware.

I have a screen protector on mine. It does scratch the screen protector. So I don't use it anymore.

I don't know if it will scratch a Gorilla glass screen, or tempered glass protector, but I'm not willing to try.

      • Within a few hours use I have noticed the faint scratches on my screen protector. Not a big deal for me as they are cheap and I change them quite often. When studying and trying to highlight text on a 7inch, no other stylus comes close so I guess I could overlook the cons.

        • I try to never change them. Dust always gets between them. These things are dust magnets.

That frankly just cannot be true. There is no way that plastic can ever be hard enough to scratch gorilla glass, it is so low on the Mohs scale to even be a remote chance. At least with keys and stuff it can be a possibility, but this is just fear mongering.

      • I said I don't know if it will or not, and I wasn't willing to try just in case. No need to downvote me for that.

        • I didn't downvote you, and I replied to the comment above you.

        • @smileymiwo: I see. Sorry.

  • Not very good according to this video.

    • Coupled with the constant clacking every time you place stylus on the screen and need to always cap it to protect the tip, I soon tossed min in the drawer.

My prefered stylus is this, similar to those rubber nibbed cheapies but way better gliding and much longer lasting:

      • Tip is too fat, just like every other capacitive stylus. If only someone could figure out how to make them finer..

Or invent a new type of touch screen that works like a resistive touch screen but with multi touch.

  • If you are thinking of turning your non-stylus tablet into one comparable with say, a Surface Pro or a Galaxy Note with active stylus you'll be sorely dissapointed with these types of stylus pens — they still lack the precision required to write in fine handwriting. Course handwriting and simple sketches will be okay though.

  • I wish they could make a stylus like the Galaxy Note ones. I don't know what's special about those, but the stylus only works on their devices. I tried a Note stylus on my Galaxy Tab Pro and it doesn't work.

    • It relies on electromagnetic resonance (or something like that). It's an additional digitiser, made with Wacom technology on the Samsung Note series, as well as Surface Pro (1) and Surface Pro 2. The Surface Pro 3 and onwards use a powered stylus (whereas Wacom doesn't need battery in the pen to work).

      • A stylus with its own battery life. What a waste.

        • Eh, I've heard that you need to replace them once every few months (in real life usage), so it's not that bad. Wacom EMR technology is good (hence why I've stuck to SP 1 when SP 3 came out, the stylus wasn't as good), but it has its limitations (mainly to do with the fact that it uses magnetism).

Might look into the SP4 pens (MS made improvements upon the existing technology, mainly more pressure level and few more bits and pieces like replacable tips with different grading like pencil B, 2H, HB etc), hopefully MS made it better.

  • I would never recommend anyone to go into the Harvey Norman store in Thomastown! The sales guys there are thugs & have no customer service skills whatsoever!
