Ok I know it's cheap, but you're in for a world of hurt with this!

Oh and I doubt it's 'QHD' (2560x1440), more likely 'qHD' (960x540)

Yep, I was right… Oh and it's called the 'Pixi'

So much fail in 1 listing

    • For 39 bucks, not a bad deal. I might get one to be used as a book reader.

      • Have fun with that @ 960x540

        • dammit

res this low will make minecraft look boxy…

        • +1

          @altomic:
you mean make minecraft look hi-res… ;-)

    • Optus site says RAM 1GB.

Alcatel site lists AU under America, NOT Asia Pacific.

  • "System Memory: 4GB ROM+512 MB RAM"
    ouch

    • Is there some way to roll back to Android 2.1 or something from a similar 'single core' era when we didn't need an F1 engine under the bonnet to run marginally better features?

Like PC's my old phones ran just as fast as today's models and did basically the same stuff - lower res displays granted.

      • Not unless the manufacturer has a system image with an earlier version of Android. I can't see one on the Alcatel site.
So - Short answer: no, long answer: probably not.

Kitkat is actually a fairly tight OS, it's not likely that Gingerbread would run much faster on this hardware.

    • 512MB? still available?

    Toilet tab!!!! I need you!

    • Needs to be wipe clean washable then.

    • +1

I thought only newspaper can be used in the toilet.

Too bad cashrewards 4% expired. The extra $1.56 would have made it sooo much better.

    • +3

      Nope, still on!
(they extended it to the 19th October!)

      • Going from a phone to this will change my entire reddit toilet experience!

  • Surely these cheapies are good enough to use as dedicated PLEX & SONOS controllers though right? Maybe even also could be used to monitor IP security cameras at the same time? I know a lot of these are junk (remember those $19 'Hot Pink' ones from Dick Smith?) but I've seen some that although are very limited are very stable and should be fine to use for simple tasks around the house. Never to be used as a main Tablet but should be OK as a secondary surely.

    • Yep - was thinking Chromecast control, but then again, there are cheaper phones around…

  • Size: 11.6 inches? I'm assuming from the name this is a 7 inch tablet?

  • Thanks OP for posting.

This tablet is perfect for my requirement. I need a spare tablet for an audio app I use for language learning. It'll do the job perfectly.

If it's 'perfect' then why no Greenie vote?

      • +1

        Fixed :)

        Thought I had.

  • +1

    Excellent tablet for Torque IMHO

  • They should give out these for free.

spend a bit more for chuwi, 2840mAh………

Cheapest I've seen in a while but with those specs, I think I'd be happier with the $39

I bought an Alcatel Pop S3 mobile to take to Europe on a seven week holiday in August. It lasted 12 days before going belly up. Rubbish .. :-( !!

  • 320 x 480 pixels

  • i played with the store display it lags so bad on stock apps you can barely scroll the home screens

    • lag is so bad I call it the "annoying 8 year old in the back seat" lag - "are we there yet?"

  • Triple core? The deceitful buggers must be counting the GPU as a core.

Lots of games are OK at that resolution, but the RAM is too little for kitkat.

    • Kitkat has been designed to run on 512mb RAM, but it'll still be crap no matter what version it has.

    • Alcatel site says triple Core.

  • it plays course videos from Lynda.com fine. dunno if it can d'load 'em & play OffLine, tho.

  • I wonder how it would compare to my crappy Pendo 7. Slow response, constant crashing, turning off for no reason. I think I've learned my lesson with cheap tablets.

    • I have a new pixi 3 (4) optus prepid (same CPU I think) for 2 months, its slow response (like my iphone 4) and pain for web browsing, but not crashing nor turning off quietly. Build quality looks cheap but not poor.
I reckon this tab will be enough for email/facebook, reading epub, listening mp3, skype and watching youtube.

      • how have tried netflix on it?
thinking of getting it for netflix

        • Very likely that it won't support Netflix HD as it needs to be approved.

        • no sorry.

  • What's "TELSTRA EBAY"???

Is it being sold by Telstra???

  • Out of stock
