    same thing minus the BG logo for $2 on ebay

      I'm no expert, but maybe survival rope is possibly 1 of those things you don't want to cheapen on?

      • +8

        550 paracord is cheap as chips, you're still just paying for the brand

        • The cheap paracord you see on ebay wont be made to milspec quality…

        • @Scope:

          I'm sure it can be had cheaper but mil spec paracord isn't that expensive

        • +1

          @Scope:

          I don't see anything on the product description or Gerber's page indicating that this is made from MilSpec paracord.

        • -1

          @jong:

          Sometimes they legally can't call it milspec because of a different dye being used but I wouldn't be surprised if this was still milspec quality

          @Scope:
          If it wasn't and you were halfway down a nice ravine in the Blue Mountains, surprise wouldn't be the word for it, tho at least you'd have a nice soft steaming pile to land on.

      • +3

        Nothing to indicate that decent paracord has been used to make this and I'd be surprised if it isn't the cheap Chinese stuff.

        • I'm pretty sure the paracord will be of decent quality. Would be really suprised if they weren't. Gerber is a reputable company. They have knives and equipment that are approved for military use and they market this as survival equipment.

        • +1

          A tin can or a mirror can be marketed as survival equipment - it's all about making the most with what you have.
          As far as cordage goes, this or ebay stuff is fine. They'll both be just as useful when push comes to shove, but neither are rapel or bow drill useful.

          @Scope:

          I'm sure the quality of this will be good enough for most uses but the point is that it's not worth the price. These days just because a company makes quality high end gear doesn't mean their entire range will be the same standard.

          @Radar:

          No one said it won't do the job but $15 for 12' of knotted cord with some TV celebrity's name on it isn't exactly good value.

        • @OzBragain:
          agreed, it's poor value.

    • any link? i might be interested. Thank you

          You're a whiz with these puns

        • Couldn't hold it in, could you?

        • I'm busting to tell a joke!

    For 5-10 bucks you can get some from australian ebay that come with a flint and emergency cutter and a watch/compass as well
    but it doesnt have the bear brand or the nice multicoulured paracord

  • +1

    has anyone, anywhere, ever….used one of these in a survival situation?

    • +11

      None that have lived to tell the tale

  • +1

    been looking at getting one as well. also available for the same price at anaconda for those who have a store near by

    http://www.anacondastores.com/fishing/fishing-tools/misc-too…

  • What does it do?

    • They're used as a last ditch survival tool. In a survival situation, you can use the paracord for a lot of uses

      • +2

        I'm covered - I'll see your steenking nylon and raise you a kevlar Xiaomi Pistons earphone cord Gringo…

    God, wouldn't you cack yourself if you actually saw anyone seriously wearing one of these? I bet BG would too, after he stops laughing at his own name. I bet all the other boys in the boarding school thought he was veeeery tough indeedy. In a few years he'll only be able to use 'bear' in the other usage (in a certain sub-culture). In which case the bracelet will be most appropriate.
