"Pointed tip for easy insertion" had me on the first line.

    • Stripped pattern for pleasure?

  • +1

Very good price. We paid about $30 for one of these.

  • +2

Yeah I paid $15 for mine at big w and it was an Australian flag. Good on Aussie day but a little unusual on other days

    • +4

Why would it be unsual to use an umberlla with an australian flag on it in australia???

      • +8

Nothing is more Australian than a green umbrella with Bunnings written all over it.

We put an Aussie flag in our living room window after a debacle caused by unsupervised little children throwing rocks about the driveway … parents rang the Police on me just because I called out to them to stop (as I would to any children). Hmm funny now, ha ha as the Police set the new Aussie parents right about the fact that parents ARE responsible for any damage caused by children. I'd had no luck complaining to father previously, about damage to car caused by bikes. Our property is end of driveway so they didn't really need to be there. Yes, i know … but this was getting ridiculous. Flag has remained through countless cricket seasons too; win or lose. It offers a little extra shade too; originally my shade trees had a bit of growing to do. Long story short (haaha if you
have read this far) we have become attached to it now so apart from the occasional laundering it remains. Yes, this is still Australia and Australian culture and values should be respected if you wish to live here.

To those of you who may be ready to jump on the racist band-wagon I say you don't know me … I have helped my new Australian neighbours many times in the past (and still remain firm lifelong friends with some). Be it the giving of good value toys my son had outgrown, witnessing of several documents, advice on mouse infestation problems they were experiencing, obtaining great value online air fares etc., i have always been happy to help. Being good neighbours is what being Australian is all about; and we should all be proud to fly our flag.

"We put an Aussie flag in our living room window after a debacle caused by unsupervised little children throwing rocks about the driveway …"

        What a strange reaction

        • +2

As explanation seems necessary; "We don't do that here."

Ps. First lot of damages set me back over $800 and I am not wealthy … "I didn't do it … little children … you cant do anything about that … prove it." No apology, no consideration; no respect. Why shouldnt I tell them to stop throwing rocks about? Why should I have to move my car on my own property to avoid further damages? This is still the Australia I grew up in; even if their family payments that are paid for by you are sent to relatives overseas. I do feel sorry for those children; their non-working parents don't find the time to take them down to the park for some fun.

@JediJan: I'm not Australian and I agree that children need to be disciplined. I was taught rather strictly that one is responsible for your actions. Your actions aren't racist and I hope you don't think all (insert : _____ ) are like that. I think it was just one bad berry out of the bunch.

What I don't understand is the Australian flag. What was it supposed to do? Stop the rocks? Sorry I don't really get that part.

[@lolbSamoan neighbours 8098/redir): I am actually a naturalised Australian myself (arrived here at 3); no intention of moving elsewhere. It was just to signify that we live in Australia and as such we should be proud to be here and call ourselves Australians; abide by Australian law/simple courtesies. We do not have a caste system here that determines one can do whatever they wish to a so-called lower caste.

The father's argument before was "I know the agents!" So, I just make a bank transfer each month and have no need. They also have their Australian certificate, but apparently only for convenience. It is a shame on their part to ring the Police as I was reluctant to do so. The Police spent quite some time with them (very loud argument) as the father still insisted he was not responsible for their actions. That was was their argument. At least the rocks have stopped even if the dividing fence has damaged palings (cricket and soccer balls); he said that was fair wear and tear… Not the children needing discipline but sensible adult supervision; two non-working (professional … engineer and physiotherapist) parents and only two little boys. Shame they never take the time to take them for some fun to the park just a street away.

You simply never know your neighbours until something goes wrong. My ex Samoan neighbours were simply the best people I have ever met; don't really understand why some people don't appear to like them. We have become lifelong friends. I have never had any problems with any other neighbours, so I am lucky I guess.

        • @JediJan:

I'm confused as to how all this relates to a beach umbrella.

  • Is this a special price or a normal one?

Might look at getting one for summer.

  • +4

Do these come with public liability insurance?

  • +2

FWIW, Coles Brimbank (VIC) has 1.6m beach umbrellas for $5. Had a lot of stock still yesterday. I think they only came in one colour (white/green?). They also have a pointed tip.

    • They're just not big enough, you need at least 1.8m

  • +1

Pointed tip for easy insertion, this feature is not easy to insert…they should design the screwed tip.

  • +1

I recommend paying more and getting a better one.
I also bought a similar one to this from BCF however the wind at the beach can make it go inside out….

i plan on buying one of the canvas ones from bunnings before our next beach day.

  • +2

Will last you 2 trips to beach. Quality not so good.

  • +2

Used to have a pointed tip one once. The wind pulled it and sent it cartwheeling across a crowded beach at Christmas. Still can't believe no one was hurt - thankfully not too pointed a tip. My screw in one has never come out, the insertion by screwing motion is much harder though :(

    • Sounds painful screwing it in! LOL

    • I guess they should be looking at retractable pointy tips … new inventors needed.

We have one of those concreted bases you can buy from Bunnings, which is the way to go for the garden. Have yet to see someone try to lug one down the beach though! Ours remains in the same spot; year in year out. Look after your backs please.

    • You nearly had scewered people for the bbq!

  • Coles Beechboro (WA) has the 1.6m for $5 in the clearance section - approx 10 left.

  • +1

I look forward to many of these flying across the beach on windy days like today

      'Sommersault' brand name seems apt
