  • beware the acer cashback restrictions before you buy this one. Can't remember if it was on notebookforum or overclockers, but I read that you only have 14 days to claim, and one guy was saying that CotD did not provide him with the required documentation to claim anyway.

    • Only 14 days to claim as per COTD and ACER T&C. Just need to cut out barcode, fill out form on the web and send in the invoice. I always use registered post and I'm yet to have any trouble with a multitude of Acer cashbacks (though they are quite slow).

  • +1

CoTD has been selling this for more than a month now. Must have a large stock to clear…

    • Yep, making way for new notebooks I imagine. Supposedly there's a delay on the ULV Core 'i' series, so who knows. Good deal though.

    • Indeed.

I got one back when this deal was posted, and the thing's been brilliant for the price.

  • -1

That makes 3 x cotd posts for today how about we just combine them

  • IF the cashback works this is a great deal, even tho the cpu is a bit weak, would prefer the core 2 CULV cpus, but otherwise still great, the ddr3 4gb is very expensive and makes it great offer, this stands out of the best notebook deals out of all the recent ones.

also, if you decide to buy this one, take out 2gb of the ddr3 ram and sell it, the su3500 is about 3/5 better than a atom n270 and would never take advantage of that much ram

    • Agreed, the RAM is very impressive on this little machine and 4GB may be overkill for many. Considering they probably bundle it with 32-bit W7HP and not 64-bit, you'd only be missing roughly 1GB of RAM if you sold the 2GB module anyway.

    • do you mean the su3500 is 60% of the n270, or it is 160% of the n270 ?

how does the su3500 compare with the n280?

      • Beats the pants off it.

        N270 - 304 on CPU PassMark
        N280 - 316 on CPU PassMark
        SU3500 - 482 on CPU PassMark

        http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php (higher is better)

        • can you upgrade the cpu at a later stage if need be?

          • @euskadi_warrior: While possible, it will be too costly and too much effort to do so. Notebook CPUs are not as easily available as desktop ones and the price tends to be a lot higher on them too. You're not guaranteed it will work with the BIOS either. Honestly, the best upgrade you'll give it is an SSD which by next year should be very affordable. Chuck an SSD in this and watch the battery life go up and everything will be lightning quick.

  • I'm still waiting for an CULV laptop in this price range:

    1) Can be overclocked
    2) has a better GPU

So far the Asus UL80VT fits the bill but is double the price…

    Oh well, can't have everything.

  • hopefully doesn't have this problem… http://www.recalls.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/969954

  • I got one of these during the last COTD sale and it's pretty good. Performance is decent and I go two days between charges with intermittent web browsing at work. Mine isn't affected by the 3810T recall either (microphone cables that burst into flame, or some such). Runs Linux perfectly as well with all the hardware detected and supported out of the box (Ubuntu 10 beta).

  • SOLD OUT

    • Thanks, I've changed title to reflect it. Still a fairly popular deal I guess.
