Damn good price, cheapest on Static Ice is $349, this works out to $267 (before Amex discount)

    • The price appears as $256.49USD for me? How to get that $203.50USD?

  • How did you get free shipping

    • Gotta pay for shipping. I put shipping in title. Varies I think maybe depending where you are

  • Good price.

I'm planning on building a new PC at the end of the year. It's damn tempting to buy 2 of these and run them in SLI but I think i'll hold off and be patient over the next 2 months for an even better deal.

You're not planning on building a small form factor gaming PC by any chance are you? I've been out of the game for a while and would be interested in any advice on cases/CPUs/mobos etc…

      • Check out pcpartpicker.com I found it useful recently (though paid too much for this very card! :( )

    • +3

Yeah you might as well get a stronger card rather than go sli on two weaker cards. Then you can sli the stronger card in the future if you need it later =)
Sli/xfire I find is too inefficient for power consumption/heat production/performance value with the wearker cards.

      • Yeah, that's the big catch. I haven't ran an SLi setup since 2005 and generally run a single powerful card.

This price point is very appealing though.

My current setup just has a Asus GTX 680 DC2OC wiht a 2560x1440 monitor and a 2nd 1920x1080 monitor. Games run on the higher res monitor fine but i'll be upgrading to a 2nd 2560x1440 monitor in December.

        • I'd keep the 680 for the performance as I think it is better performance wise than the 960. However if heat/power is an issue (brace yourselves, summer is coming!), then the 960 may be a better option.

It also depends what you are doing on the second monitor. Are you playing games together, or is monitor 1 playing games, and monitor 2 is just desktop?
Resolution tends not to matter unless you are using them intensively.

        • @charzy:

Nah, I use to dual box in WoW and stuff like that but not any more.

Now Monitor 1 is game. Monitor 2 is browser, twitch, itunes, etc.

680 is fine and only really got hot last year when there was some dodgy driver issues with certain games (Diablo 3 used to see the temps skyrocket and I'd get shitty fps in game). Installed another case fan and manually overid the gpu fan speeds and it was fine.

    • charzy is right. Dual 960 SLI won't be much better than 970 in performance, but will use more power. And you lose the ability of future expansion. Cost-wise dual 960s are $454AUD but single 970 is $380AUD.
I am in a similar boat. Searching for a decent but bargain motherboard that supports SLI.

If you're considering that, why don't you go for a GTX 980 instead? It's roughly the same price as 2 960s, the performance of a 980 is superior in most cases and you won't have to deal with the microstutter, louder fans and more heat.

  • far superior yes…sli is a little bit silly imo. How about you oz bargainer types give me insight into whether I go with a gtx 960 or gtx 970? where's the sweet spot atm..and should I go 4g instead of 2g? I like evga and like the look of the asus turbo in those models. this should be in a forum I guess..but while people are sharing their opinions freely.

    • +1

Why get 2gb when you can get 4gb at the same price?
Memory only plays part in resolution in most cases.

Depends what monitor you are using and what games.

If you want 1440p @ 144hz, def go for the gtx970
      Otherwise 1080p @ 144hz , gtx960 is doable.

      If you want 1440p @ 60hz, gtx 960 should be doable @ 4gb ram.

      • thanks charzy…yes ive settled on the 4g atm. Just wondering if the extra 100 or so is worth it for a gtx970

        • +1

          Refer to the options above.

What monitor do you have at what resolution?
Do you play at 60hz or 120/144hz?

And what games? If you're playing cs:go/league/dota2 etc, go for 960.
If it's way more intensive like all the new flashy games, go for 970.

        • @charzy: bf4 project cars shogun 2..new titles ill be getting include just cause 3 and battlefront ..so im thinking the 970..even though im in 60hz

        • @biozet:
Yep get the 970. You can still apply the same discounts.

  • Thanks OP! Just bought one without amex disc (i don't have one unfortunately)

    • +2

Should've asked a family member if they had one!
and most bank Credit cards nowadays give you amex in conjunction to your MCard/Visa for free! so ask!!!!!

      • I'm an intl student in Syd so can't do that :( it's still much cheaper compared to my country tho

        • +2

If you trust me you can give me the gift card number and I'll order it with my amex and get it shipped to your address.
          Save almost $40!!!

  • Link to 28degree to buy $200 gift card please?
Or if you're kind, list me the steps to get this discount please?
Also, what's the difference between FTW and FTW+?

    • +1

      link

Use your 28degree to buy the gift card for best rates. It's in USD so find out ho wmuch it'll cost for you - Amex discount then add shipping (amex doesn't take off shipping). (if you have leftover, amazon will keep the leftover credit for your next purchase).

Then when you go to pay, use your gift card and choose your AMEX card, it'll put the discount in.

I'm not sure what the big diff between FTW and FTW+, maybe a few htz difference.

      • Also remember if you buy $50 gift cards you get $10 off. It might not be redeemable in time to buy this card though.

        • if you buy $50 gift cards you get $10 off

Really? Where did you see this?

It sounds too good to be true because it means everything on Amazon is another 20% off.

      • Got it, thanks mate!

Thanks OP! Should arrive when Fallout 4 is released :)

    • Given the rest of my system is up for the task will this handle Fallout 4 quite well?

  • Why do you need the $200 gift card if you're going to end up paying via amex?

    • Exchange rate on your Amex will be different to the 28degree card.
You use the 28degree card to get the USd conversion at the best rate, and then amex to get the 15% off.

      • Are you getting your 15% off when buying the gift card, or when buying the graphics card?

I don't understand how you can pay for the card with both gift card AND Amex at the same time.

Or are you saying pay $200 with the gift card and $3.50 with AMEX? Would that discount the entire $203.50 by 15%?

        • +1

15% when buying the graphics card.
The reason you get the gift card using 28degrees is to get the best exchange rate e.g. 67cents (amex) vs 71cents(28degrees) I think.

Then when you go into checkout, you'll choose your AMEX, it'll apply the discount then you use the gift card in the promo/gift card box to apply the credit.

Btw deals over with amex, my bro tried to order one and found out amex has stopped the amazon deal already.

        • @charzy: >The reason you get the gift card using 28degrees is to get the best exchange rate e.g. 67cents (amex) vs 71cents(28degrees) I think.

          Isn't 71 cents a better exchange rate than 67?

I still find everything strange and confusing.

        • @lostn:

          Yes that's right.
28degrees credit card will give you the 0.71USD per AUD . The amex will give you a rate of 0.67 USD per AUD.
That's why you use the 28degrees credit card to buy the gift cards, but choose the amex card to finish off the sale (for the amex 15% bonus).

Heads up, evga world wide warranty is nice in concept but requires shipping to the local region service centre, which for Australia happens to be Taiwan and cost about $40-$60. Pretty much the same as posting any other brand back to the US.

    • Why does it cost that much to send to Taiwan? Does it need to be in its original packaging?

      • Well thats how much it cost me a couple of years ago. They only need the card not the packaging but I packed it pretty thoroughly, loss or damage in transit is your problem, not EVGA's. Turn around time was almost 2 months and I just got a refurb replacement.

  • The shipping status of my card is "Exported i-Parcel and in transit to country of destination" and has been for the last 3 days. Hurry up, god damn it!

    • My 970 took 6 days to arrive in Aus. :(

      • Working days only? And is that to your door or just Australia?
