Good price. Too bad no collectors ed. though ;)

CE is a rip off. just digital goods this time

no artbooks or anything like that

THe HOTS version was the best

the WOL version had a few nice trinkets

But this one was just a cash grab to cross sell their other games and give you worthless skins

  • +9

Considering HoTS, I won't be buying this until it's $20.
What a shame what they've done to this series.
This is still a good price if you do like it - but for me, they've really diluted StarCraft, christ HoTS was mediocre.

    • what was wrong with hots?

edit: unless u mean that the story was very contrived, in which case i agree.

      • +2

Story was really poor,… the thing at the end of WoL was changed back within like 4 levels, it made WoL pointless. Just a weak weak game storywise, real mediocre writing. And I like almost any game story if the devs try

        • The story in WoL wasn't very good either. That's just the nature of being allowed to select what missions to play in what order you want.

          There's not much overarching plot.

The missions were great, the story was meh.

so sad that the rts games like sc2 and wc3 are not doing hot anymore.

      • +1

because they keep making expansions, SC2 was released 5 years ago! They should make SC3.

        • so true…

          Bring back the days of SC1 and 2 ( Supreme commander 1 and 2 ) and SC 1 and 2 ( Star craft 1 and 2 ) lol

C&C was a classic for its time. Also HOMEWORLD! series.

        • +1

@vid_ghost: i miss old westwood ra2 and ra… god damn EA and buying the franchise only to discontinue the best series after butchering ra3.

also (profanity) generals… what was the point of having great game play with no video and story line that was immersive.

        • +2

They take 2.5 years just to do an expansion. I can't imagine how long it will take them to make SC3.

And if they did make SC3 it would only be the Terran campaign anyway, and you'll have to wait another 5 years to see the other 2/3 of it.

I think we are moving to a new gaming age where games has to be simpler. Blizzard took some approaches with it at the beginning of sc2 but I belive kids these days want their games spoon fed to them. Complex games seems to be a no go days.

        • @spn: For AAA games, yes.

But there are games out there like Dark Souls or Bloodborne who don't give a F. They won't hold your hand, and if you can't figure it out, it's your fault.

        • @elemindreda: RA3 was great, it was RA4 that they completely butchered & was a complete commercial disaster.

        • @infinite:

Are you talking about C&C or Red Alert Series?

Red Alert 2 was fantastic. Red Alert 3 was horrible. Red Alert 4 does not exist.

        • @lostn:

Those are like the only two games really

        • @infinite:

RA3 was great, it was RA4 that they completely butchered & was a complete commercial disaster.

          There was no RA4

You mean C&C4? Yes, that game was awful. They tried to do something completely new, but new =/= better. And the game required you to be online, Sim City style.

        • @infinite: Maybe i just have nostalgic view of ra2 and ra1. RA3 was good but imo the expansion and the japanese empire thing wasnt really my thing.

btw do you mean RA3 expansion when u said RA4? unless i'm missing something.

        • @aggregate: red alert 3 still had some of what made red alert a unique and amazing series. but the intro of the japanese just didnt do it for me.

sc2 moved way too slow, they had a huge opportunity at the beginning to grow sc2, but the game play was just stale and they didn't change it, every game was just cheese in to deathball. Personally I stopped playing after a year. Look at sc1 - original and expansion released in the SAME year.

      • SC2 could've been good too, just a bit better story for one.
I read a rumour the other day, people complained on the Blizz forums that SC2 WoL was TOO LONG so they cut HoTS shorter (WTF!?)

        Man….. man…..
WC3 was amazing, WoL was pretty good I guess but….. RTS :/ Sigh

        • +1

the only reason WoL was too "long" was because it was padded with pointless missions that does not progress the story line

but I guess that was necessary when Blizzard decided to milk us and split SC2 into three separate releases…….. I was willing to put up with it if the story line was good, but turns out to be just one filler mission after another (in both WoL and HotS)

I'm seriously considering sitting this one out and just watch it on youtube instead

        • @FW190: Although it's infrequent, they do discount their games about once a year. I'd just wait. I'm definitely not buying at launch, they can bite me.

    • -1

      Ummm hots is free.

How can you whinge at something that is literally free. Sure you can buy skins but that is hardly a requirement.

EDIT. Oh you mean heart of the storm not heroes of the storm. Disregard this.

      • +11

Heart of the swarm I think he speaks. Not herpes of the storm.

        • I'm still waiting for NAFM (Not Another F&$^ing MOBA) to become a reality…

      • Blizz so DUMB for naming it that, ugh!

  • Anyone know of a cheaper price before i go ahead and order?

  • +1

there's key only versions that are cheaper, cdkeys.com has it at $40 roughly (cant seem to post the actual link), but had a crappy experience in the past buying a guild wars 2 cdkey where the key was revoked by gw2 months after, got a refund but lost all characters and gear.

    • Was that cdkey bought with a stolen creditcard, and then resold to you?

      • bought it from cdkeywarehouse so dont think so

        • That's strange, i wonder if they did some type of area restriction check then..

  • +1

Yeah, I think Blizzard should of released it closer to each other. I mean they (profanity) up d3, and lost their fanbase. I heard d3 is good now, but it's only good now to how it should of been during release.

I shall be doing the same unfortunately. I'll wait for it to go down. I bought hots back then, played through campaign and lost interest sadly.

I still support blizzard though. I love them as a company for trying. I might just go back to their other titles.

  • +1

Bought the first two chapters of StarCraft 2 very recently, by the end of HotS I was bored, missions seemed very standard and the Prologue for this chapter seems even more dull.

I liked the missions in the first half of HotS and I liked most of the missions in WoL as the missions had more variety. The final mission in HotS was uninspiring.

  • Will HotS still work for a few more months?
Or will everyone move to LoTV?

    • There will be fewer HotS players but HotS multiplayer will definitely still work, especially since LoTV is a standalone expansion. Wings of Liberty still had a small but dedicated following after HoTS.

  • The cinematic trailer for this expansion is pretty awesome!

  • If they do WC4 rather than this SC2 expansions would have been better off

  • Thanks OP!

  • I bought HotS for $30 not long after it launched, so I will wait.

WoL was $59 on launch day.

$50 for LotV is a bit much.

  • Essentially what was wrong with the Starcraft storyline….

    Are people still playin sc2?

  • -4

I can tell the majority of people here don't even play sc2 at a high level. I guess u people only buy it to play the campaign ? Reading the comments here makes me laugh

    • Even if you do so, it's no where as good as sc1. SC2 didn't last long with its online community. Not everyone is hardcore spending 24x7 to play online ladder and check how many clicks you can do per minute. Playing at high level? Watching peoples replay? Speculate matches? Dream to go tournament to win some money? Want to go to Korea? That makes me laugh.

Good luck spending time in a net cafe over there and don't forget to eat and sleep.

Who gives a crap about playing high level? Plenty of better things to do.

Your life is worth more than a pity game like SC2 which is now utterly rubbish

      • +2

Only a casual gamer and not much good at SC2, but you 2 clowns are almost as bad as each other. SC2 is an OK game and i noted a decent amount of ppl online 18 months after release. Plenty of fun for most people. There are way, way worse games out there than SC2.

        • I can see you are trying to be diplomatic. However calling people clowns isn't quite working.

        • Calling comments like "utterly rubbish" how i see it. Some of the best causal gaming i have done in the last 10 years were group (i.e. 2v2, 3v3 etc) in SC2 with friends online. As for online longevity it fared better than most.

        • SC2 is no where as good as WC3. In comparison its NOT great, and NOT faring well. As for online longevity SC2 is also nowhere near WC3, which spawned DoTA, MOBA games with its custom maps.

Calling people clowns is not the same calling a game rubbish.

          Have some common sense.

        • WC3? Haha. Have some common sense? Who says clowns aren't funny.

      • +1

Who said anything about going to korea and winning some money? I've only stated by reading the comments above, I can see people are only in it for the campaign. To say the game is dead and lack of an online community proves u probably are the "majority" of people who probably couldnt pass silver league. whats with ur useless comments?, i have no comments for that. SC2 would always be the best and this is coming from a person who played for 4+ years. Just stating my opinion

    • It's Campaign missions are great. Nothing wrong with playing it for the single player. It requires a big time investment to be a competitive player and not everyone wants to bother with that.

Good luck with your WCS ambitions though.

  • Mighty Ape are selling for $50 ($5 postage in Australia) - however, they do also stock the CE - $119 and so far, the best priced I've found locally (especially given AUD bad exchange rate atm).
