Motorola Google Nexus 6 32GB (Blue) $588 @ JB Hi-Fi

180

The Nexus 6 is now on sale at your local OZ store! It is not the cheapest for sure but the 2 year AU warranty and easy communication on warranty issue makes the deal appealing.

If you have any phone that does not want to sell 2nd hand by yourself, just bring it into the store to work out a trade in price to further reduce the price you would pay for this phone.

If you have AMEX card with Harvey Norman statement credit saved, you can go to their stores and ask for a match then pay for the phone with one or two (add $12 worth of other items) AMEX card and get further discount.

Yea but Kogan is import stock + only 12 months warranty. Is it worth it?

      • +5

OK, I'll admit, looks like Im wrong on the kogan one… thanks for pointing it out.

    • +1

For import stock we used to get around $420 for this phone. But we are not talking about the cheapest price we can find here, which is already mentioned in OP.

    • +1

      +$22 delivery for me

    • +delivery from kogan.

  • Nice deals, there was a active deal where u can get nexus 9 for 299 and with this deal getting a nexus 6 for 588 looks like you get the Top phone and tablet for less than $1000 :)

  • looks like you get the Top phone and tablet for less than $1000 :)

    Win win.

Still not better than T-Dimension's deal. I would have expected these to drop a bit more than they have seeing as the 6p/5x are out.

Take care updating OTA, many instances of becoming stuck in bootloop, if you do nothing else turn on the dev menu & enable USB debugging prior to running updates, makes potential recovery easier.
Also check out wugfresh for easy updating, root etc

    • Enabling USB debugging will do nothing to solve bootloop. You need to allow OEM unlock in settings. Otherwise risk hardbrick.

IMO it's mental to own a Nexus device with a locked bootloader.

      • USB debugging is to allow reflashing by wugfresh or other method, other wise you've got to enable it via an adb session, pretty poor show for this device to be affected tbh.

        • Don't mean to be rude, but you don't know what you're talking about. Once bootloader is unlocked, all you need to do is boot to bootloader (power + volume) and use fastboot to flash factory images.

USB debugging and adb are irrelevant.

Wugfresh and all other toolkits should be avoided. Better to learn what's actually being done.

        • @PainToad: and yet you managed {slow hand clap]

This was just to give anyone doing the OTA (not unlocking bootloader or anything complex) an out if the OTA fails and drops them into a bootloop (an established issue with Nexus devices), enabling ADB just adds a safeguard for users not willing to trawl XDA Dev forums.

last time I add anything to this site!

        • @revmacca:
Once again, enabling adb will achieve nothing if any OTA fails. Nothing. The only way to recover is with an bootloader unlocked or to have OEM unlock allowed in settings.

By telling people adb is protecting them, you're actually putting them at risk.

  • Possible to pricebeat at Harvey Norman?

    • +2

Sure. And combine with your AMEX card when you pay for the phone and get further discount.

  • Ill still buy LG G4 over this phone any given day

    • +4

      It's a shame you can't buy a local G4 for this price.

    • +2

      Why?

I think stock android beats anything LG G4 has to offer in terms of hardware. Granted the camera is good but the 6 does the job.

    • Maybe if your colour blind and can't see LGs horrible UI.

      • Please explain

        • +2

LG (and Samsung, HTC etc.) take Material design and shit all over it with their ugly ass versions, just for the sake of being different.

Matias Duarte is a genius and his work shouldn't be tampered with by clueless OEMs in Korea.

          End fandriod rant.

        • +1

@PainToad: agree .. I own this as a daily driver and was issues an SAMSUNG GALAXY S5 as an work phone and the UI is horrible

Even after using a custom launcher the UI is an eyesore in settings, quick pulldown etc

Too bad it's work phone, else will install CM 13 BETA

        • +1

          @PainToad:

I like to see there are other people like me who can't stand the desolation of the beauty of material design. Why the heck can't Sony, HTC, LG and Samsung use stock Android and just install their crap apps as normal apps. Moto got it right and so have one plus.

        • @kamban:

Wow being forced to use touchWiz. That's gotta hurt every time.

        • @PainToad: Totally agree. I owned a Xperia Z3 before and Sony's UI is as lame as it could be, giving me a KitKat-ish feeling even though it is supposed to be Marshmallow.

Hopefully drops to 400 local someday. Will be hell of a deal at that price.

  • I have an issue regarding the statement: "It is not the cheapest for sure but the 2 year AU warranty and easy communication on warranty issue makes the deal appealing"

As per the following pages on the ACCC website:

    https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/consumer-rights-guarantees…
    https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/consumer-rights-guarantees…

"Under the Australian Consumer Law, when you buy products and services they come with automatic guarantees that they will work and do what you asked for. If you buy something that isn't right, you have consumer rights. Businesses must provide these automatic guarantees regardless of any other warranties they give to you or sell you. Products must be of acceptable quality, that is: safe, lasting, with no faults"

Therefore, the warranty and coverage provide by JB Hifi, and companies like Kogan, should be exactly the same, regardless of whether it's an imported product or a "local" product. Even if a product "only includes" a 12 or 24 month warranty, this does not mean that after 12 months the retailer and manufacturer get to wash their hands of you. The only advantage of buying from JB Hifi is the face to face support, which I really don't think is worth the extra cost.

Au stock and grey import are DIFFERENT. period.

"They should, they must.." Well said, firm and strong, but too weak in execution I am sorry.

      • -1

So you are saying the ACCC are completely wrong?

        • +2

Not wrong, just ineffectual when it comes to grey imports from companies outside of Australia. ACCC is right in situations in which they have enforcement powers.

        • +1

          @2be8:

Can you find me something on the ACCC website that strictly rules out their coverage of grey imports sold by Australian online companies (like Kogan)?

I'm honestly not trying to be awkward or "clever", it's literally a total grey area (no pun intended) and could do with some clarification. I can't see anything on the ACCC website that indicates that their rules and regs don't count when it's a grey import product

        • +2

          @jdt1986:

"While you have the same consumer rights when you buy parallel imports as you do with any other goods, it may be more difficult to obtain a remedy if something goes wrong with a parallel import."

Goes rapidly downhill from there (They are being pretty realistic):

"The seller who you bought the good from will be responsible for providing you with a remedy under the consumer guarantees.

If the seller is based overseas, there may be practical and legal difficulties in enforcing your consumer guarantee rights against an overseas business."

"If the product comes with a manufacturer’s warranty - that warranty may not apply in Australia, or depending on the terms and conditions may not apply to products sold as parallel imports."

          https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/sales-delivery/buying-para…

        • @jdt1986: No, I can't, and if you asked ACCC I suspect they would say that their coverage covers grey imports sold through Australian channels. I'm certainly not claiming that they don't have jurisdiction - they may. My comment is more about how straightforward it is for them to wield a stick when companies are not actually Australian. For example, if you buy the Xiaomi Note 4G LTE from Banggood for $540 or a Galaxy S6 from ShoppingSquare for $810 and it goes belly up after 13 months, do you think that the ACCC will actually be able to, in practice, force them to repair it?

I would like for them to be able to, but personally I would not be confident enough that they could to buy such a thing from Banggood or ShoppingSquare.

Having said that, if anyone has an example of where the ACCC has been able to force such a seller to honour Australian statutory warranty requirements then that may change my mind.

My experience with Consumer Affairs Victoria in the past have been that it is virtually useless at enforcing regulations even on Australian companies, let alone foreign companies. (Sadly)

Edit: @eecan did a much better job of answering than I did. Nice one.

  • weren't these really cheap at amazon?
    EDIT: not anymore :-(

  • +3

Cheaper at mobileciti (Aussie store and stock) at the moment. Its going for $568 shipped, or pickup from their Parramatta store (it's real close to the station)

    • But AMEX can possibly get you $100 off if you can find stock in Harvey Norman and add $12 more into the transaction.

      • Ah didn't see the amex thing. Still, if you don't have an amex card, mobileciti will be your cheapest bet.

    • +1

Can someone explain? Why mobileciti states only 12 months warranty?

      • I don't know where OP got the 2 year figure from, according to the Motorola website the nexus 6 is only covered for a year under manufacturer warranty.

        • You linked to the US warranty.

Here in Australia it is 2 years. I own one and it clearly states 2 years. This is also in a PDF somewhere that I read when I was deciding on buying one, a quick Google should find it.

Guessing Mobileciti just defaults to 12 month when they're entering new products.

        • @PainToad: Thanks

  • New stock has just arrived into JB Hifi stores. I just bought one from JB in Chatswood today. However, sales rep tells me that the deal ends today!

  • missed the T-dimension deal..

just a lil more wait and i'm sure i can buy this for ~450 in the near future

    • +1

Looks like JB has marked $588 as the regular price for this phone.

So yes it should go further down when it is on sale.

  • JB jacked up the price to 888!
