I thought you needed to use this - http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/30-day-price-guarantee

        • +1

Yes. Can't do it in store. Have to do it online. I submitted my claim online, and received a response in 5 days. They will honour the price difference guarantee. Yay!

        • @ranagade:

My claim was also approved.. Though the amount to be credited on the eftpos card was not confirmed or mentioned in the email which I find strange.. Will need to wait and see.

  • +1

    I prefer passive 3D.

However, if you're looking for an upgrade, this is a great price.

I would bite if this was 60" for this price.

    • Yeah, very tempting to replace my Toshiba 58" rear-projection. A slight upgrade (if not in size!) ;)

  • Does this TV require that it's stand be used as the wall mount like many newer Sony TVs or is it VESA compatible?

    • The sony website doesn't say it has vesa but the JBHIFI description has:

      Wall Mountable - True

And the choice review (which I can't read) has a picture of the back and it looks like it has the mount holes

    • Brochure says yes.

  • Pulled the trigger after weeks of hunting around. Got this TV from JB + the XBOX Witcher/AC/ Tomb Raider Bundle($489) + FIFA16 + Delivery for $2057. Safe to say I am sorted for the Xmas break. Now all I need to do is protected these items from the destructive hands of my kids.

  • Does Ultra HD TV generally consume more power than HD TV, like double the amount?

This TV uses about 202W while my 55" Panasonic TH-L55ET60A uses 70W..In this case, it's triple the usage.

    Note it's a YUV 420 TV.

  • +1

Apparently the cheaper 4k panels use edge-lit LED backlighting system instead of Full-Array LED? I've read there is a fairly noticeable difference.

  • Nice, but Sony does with free delivery. http://www.sony.com.au/product/kd-55x8500c

  • Moving into a new place in Q1 2016. Will need a TV for the new place. Not sure if I should jump on this or hold out till Q1 2016 for something better at the same price.

    • +3

      id say wait.
tv prices drop faster than anything else…

      • +1

Thanks for the reply. I'll hold out till Feb-Mar 2016. Hopefully some comparable deal comes around then.

        • for sure.

        • +2

          Don't wait too long.
Last year, best prices were at Boxing Day/new year sales. After that, prices crept up again.

        • +2

          @1bug:

I agree, the best deals are had during boxing day, by mid Jan all models are run out and you may not be able to find the one you want, by March the new models are out

        • +1

@1bug: Don't forget to also consider our dollar value, if it goes lower the prices will most likely increase across all brands. But yeah, Technological advances, mean in six months time you should be able to get something better.
Remember this almost 12 moths ago? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/176896

  • So TGG pricing would be $1345.80 with their 120% guarantee

    This is damn tempting

    • Is it difficult to get TGG to honour their 120% price guarantee? Do you need to take photo of the price tag given the offer is presumably not in a catalogue? Big risk to take if they don't honour their offer. Thanks.

      • +1

They will honour the website (Catalogue doesn't matter)

The question is whether its worth your time to buy at the TGG price and then bring up the price guarantee to receive the 120% refund of the difference

    • Consider the deal smashed!

    • If this is the same TV then its definitely a deal

    • Thanks for the comment m8 :)

  • Price at Sony has gone up to $1,548 including free delivery (valid until 8 November)
    http://www.sony.com.au/product/kd-55x8500c

  • Very tempted, I am holding off for the OLEDs to come down sub 2K price. But this is almost impossible to resist.

Found a good review here (model seems tone from late 2014, so just on year old),https://www.avforums.com/review/sony-x8505-kd-55-49-65-x8505b-ultra-hd-led-lcd-4k-3d-tv-review.10556.

One thing to point out is that in this review it says 3D performance not great (not too bothered with 3D myself). They also say it is Passive 3D yet the JB and Sony sites state active 3D.
Note, no 3D glasses included, so must budget for that if interested in 3D.

I've got it in my cart at HN…. to buy or not to buy, that is the question.

  • Which is the best 65" 4K TV at present?

    • From what I've read the LG OLED, if you don't mind a curved screen.

  • Great deal. This is the exact TV I want at the price i want, but with an oled screen.

    • So it's NOT the exact TV you want, then?

  • If anyone I after the LG Oled TV'S I think Bing lee has them on special plus you get 15% rebate on the next LG Purchase in the following 15 days

  • picked one up, great tv for the price , cheers

  • Not sure if this deal is connected to this:
    http://ausdroid.net/2015/11/06/buy-a-selected-sony-android-t…
    sony page is down atm

    • Unfortunately no, only 9 series or bigger 8 series - would have been amazing!

  • Has anyone tried to submit a claim for the TTG 30-day-price-guarantee? I seem to be getting errors when pressing submit

JB at Kedron in Brisbane did a great deal for me while the HN discount was running. Thanks Paul and the guys for your excellent service. HN had a very good deal but not sure if they could supply straight away. JB was able to supply one there and then.
Thanks McFly for the firmware tip re 60Hz on HDMI. I run the TV from the computer and need HDMI 2. Strange that the TV reports native res of 1920 x 1080 on GTX960. My Pana 4k is native UHD res. Had to manually change the res for the Sony.

    • Hi,

Can you please tell what deal you got ? If possible, Can you please receipt. Thanks

    • So it does work? (60Hz)
And yes, what deal? I tried to get them to chuck in delivery but he wouldn't budge (will get it on Sunday.)

      • Yes 60Hz works - picture is sharp and scrolling smooth. Havent tried a game but I am sure it will be fine.
Sorry guys I purchased the TV when the HN deal was in play and was able to get a discount based on that. It would not be something they would repeat since HN doesn't have stock and also pulled the deal pretty quick. Kudos to them for helping me out, but it's not something I would try and repeat.

  • No stocks @ Harvey Norman but managed to get the same deal from including EFTPOS $110,
ETA in 2 weeks had to pay 10%

    • same deal from Sony? How?

  • +1

Who said HN had no stock?
I just went into HN yesterday and they had 5 units.
But The Good Guys had removed any Sony 55" off the shelf, and told me they had no stock.

    In Warrambool, Vic.

    • Went to HN Wiley park NSW after work yesterday. The "expert" who came to serve me in the beginning told me they have got stock(the tv was on display $2499).Then when I mentioned their online deal he said that was only for Thurdsay. After that I showed him the JB link and told him that Sony has got it on their site on special too, his answer was "m8 go and buy it from them then"!!! He said that it's a discontinued model that's on clearance with very limited stock(no clearance stickers on the tv) and that probably has problems with the processor(???!!!) that's why the other competitors have it for half the price! After such a load of cr@p, I couldn't even be bothered talking to his manager, I went back to my car, took my laptop and ordered directly from sony($1548-7.5% cashrewards with free shipping)

  • Yep, I copped the same at HN and JBHI.I ended up doing the same. Best deal is via cashrewards which takes you to the Sony site. Cash rewards will appear in your account later but they will email you to let you know that it is pending straight after the transaction. All seems above board. Thanks to "TRENT86" for posting this deal. P.S: I'd get in quick as stocks may finish. JBHI are out of stock.

    • Yes, JB are out (in Vic at least) - said it will take 2 or 3 weeks to arrive.

  • hmm never used cash back before but got this email

    Retailer: Sony
    Date of Sale: 7/11/2015
    Sale Value: AUD 2899.00
    Expected Cashback: AUD 217.42

only paid the 1549 the expected cash back is high right?

    • Don't worry, I got similar, I think Sony will adjust it later. You will see from your cashrewards account that the $$ aren't available yet. You'll know once it hits the "available now" section. I won't complain if I get that much though 😃

  • These guys have matched the price:
    https://www.videopro.com.au/p-8670-sony-bravia-55-kd55x8500c…
    http://shop.davidjones.com.au/djs/en/davidjones/sony-55-uhd-…

Nobody else has AFAIK (including Myer.)

Good old Gerry had it matched for maybe a few hours (+$110 EFTPOS) on Thursday, then it mysteriously disappeared even though the original sale page said "until 8th November"!

  • All such cheeky buggers, I bet they sometimes hate this site and how we come in all educated about the deals, haha I love it!! Love this site, so glad I came across it. Thanks everyone 😃

  • hmm david jones matched… dam hey, that is the best deal combined with

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/214333

    10% off ~ 1350!!!

  • Expired

  • After a week or so of this TV how is everyone experiencing it?

    • Bought it online from Sony, 1 week "despatch pending", called them yesterday and they gave me a DHL tracking number.I will be probably getting it on Tuesday

      • Did you use cashrewards? Still waiting on my cash back notification

        • I did and they recorded the purchase twice(got notification 1 hour after purchase) but Friday they fixed it and now it shows :06 Nov 2015 Sony AUD 1548.00 AUD 116.10 "Pending"

        • @GregFiona: No notification here. Bought last week :/

  • Still waiting prob get it in wa on tues

  • Backorders (JB) were supposed to be arriving about now…I wish. Rang up today to check - will be lucky to get it before the holidays.

    • Just got SMS that it's ready for pickup.

  • did anyone get it yet? how is it?

    • +1

Yep. Haven't had much time to play with it fully yet, but so far so good (although I've already had it restart on me - tried to play a YouTube video.)

    • +1

I got it 10 days after purchase.I updated the firmware on first startup, it took a while but after that all smooth! My son watches his youtube cartoons on it a couple of hours every day and the quality is superb.Movies are perfect too, I'm streaming movies from my serviio Imac server and everything is perfect so far, fast forward is so much faster than my samsung plasma tv.Only issue is srt subtitles didn't work for me through serviio(they work on my samsung) I love the bluetooth touch remote and the iphone remote app. I haven't tried 3D yet (i still have to buy the glasses) but last weekend I installed Kodi(!!!) and all it's add-ons so last Tuesday-Wednesday i was able to watch 2 Uefa Champions league games without the need of a pc ;)
      I don't think I need Foxtel anymore :)
I haven't tried Netflix/quickflix/Presto yet.Installed ES file explorer and Vlc and I also installed an Ip camera app for my son's room tenvis camera.
Voice control is very accurate, it works even with my terrible accent ;)
I also tried downloading a few games, Asphalt 8 is good fun, there is nothing this tv cannot do!
Also, srt subtitles work perfectly through Kodi.I like the fact that you can turn the tv on with the iphone app.Sound quality is excellent.
The only negative for me is:
      1. the heat generated at the bottom edge of the tv(not a big issue as mine is wall mounted with lots of clearance around)
2.the tv buttons that are located on the side behind the tv so you can't actually see what you are pressing(unlike the touch buttons at the front on my older samsung plasma tv)
      3. 3d glasses not included(minor issue considering what I paid for the tv)

Overall i give it 9/10! Great family entertainment tv! Love it!

      • Blue tooth remote sounds food, and mobile app.
Wish my tv had this option.

  • Thanks guys…mine is coming on Monday..cant wait!
